WNBA discussion thread?

Awww, I'm sad to hear EDD has retired. Had she not been hampered with constant injury and the ongoing Lyme Disease, she could have become a legendary figure in the sport. I mean, she still managed to be amazing, but she never got to have a normal career. I wish her happiness and success in whatever she chooses to do.

The way the Thibaults handled Delle Donne during the 2023-24 offseason was contemptible. They could have let her go to the Aces with grace but held on for a trade return that, in the end, never materialized. Not many in Washington shed any tears when both the father (GM) and the son (head coach) were dismissed after the 2024 season.

ESPN final mock draft. HVL not in the top 10.

I think that Shyanne Sellers at 6 is based on her being fully healthy (which she hasn't been since January). She played the second half of the season with a knee injury that limited her to under 75% effectiveness. She hobbled through the B1G and NCAA Tournaments with 1 to 2 weeks of rest before each. I don't see any way that she will be anywhere close to 100% by the time that W camps open.

All the best to Sellers, who was a great player for Maryland and a Terp through and through. Unless, by some miracle she is completely healed, I hope that she takes the time to recover fully before she takes on the challenge of the W.

Amoore to the Sparks would be pretty good for the Sparks. She is a quality PG
Happily, the Sparks no longer need a pg. Plum insists she’s one, Odyssey Sims is coming off an amazing AU season and they still have rights to Julie Allamand, one of the best pgs in Europe. GA would have a hell of a time making that roster

I don't think that there is any way that the Mystics pass on Aneesah Morrow for either Kiki Iriafen or Sonia Citron. Don't get me wrong, both Citron and Iriafen have nice games but Morrow has proven that, undersized or not, she is a beast on the boards with quality offensive moves against all competitors. Simply put, she is far more consistent and possesses greater athleticism than either of the other players in question.

Kiki is better than Morrow, and all the WNBA GM’s have said so.

Their stats for the 2024-25 season are fairly comparable except that Morrow pulled down 5 more rebounds per game and had substantially more steals than Iriafen. I know that you have a soft spot for Iriafen, who is an excellent player. Still, Morrow, like her teammate (Angel Reese) from the prior season, plays with greater drive and energy and is less prone to being anonymous in big games than Iriafen.

Incidentally, Dark Phoenix, how do you know what all of the WNBA GM's actually believe about prospective draftees (especially in terms of specific player comparisons)?

The WNBA scouts and GM’s already evaluated and made it clear who the better prospect is, they are responsible for projecting talent for the next level and have done a great job saying Kiki is a better prospect for the next level. Anyone that knows basketball, knows stats don’t tell the whole story. Last 2 year Kiki has been an AllAmerican so she’s been consistent with an incompetent coach this year. Kiki has star quality but Morrow has role player quality and time will prove that.

Draft is unwatchable. Move this nonsense along. There is no reason to have 20 minutes of Lobo and her lackey between every pick. Nobody cares about their analysis.

Love Nye getting unexpectedly drafted that early and being there in person even though she wasn't an official invitee!

Tbh she’s a steal, 46% from three is unteachable. She will get minutes on shooting alone. Great team player too, she got fewer opportunities with the addition of Zaay but obviously realized it was a plus for the team.

Chicago made a mistake not taking Serena Sundell. They needed a PG and I can’t think of a more perfect player to learn from Sloot. Missed opportunity.
