Worley gets high praise from Ainge/Swain

I just re read title as Worley gets high from Ainge. Does that make me a bad person?

ICYMI, On the Erik Ainge show this morning he praised Worley a ton. He said "Worley didn't just look for Worley, Worley looked good period." He said he and Jason Swain were astonished at Worley's play and had Worley been wearing a different number they wouldn't have recognized him.

Apparently Dobbs and Peterman are in a competition for QB2 but as of right now Worley looks to be the starter for sure.

TIFWIF. I personally am excited to hear this and have been saying Worley would/should start this season since the end of last season.

I'm not surprised, he's easily the best passer on the team, he may not have the best arm, but he's the best passer.

They're NOT that young. ONE underclass man!!!!!!!!!!.

Starters aren't young except for Coleman Thomas however they are very inexperienced. Once you get past the first five we are both young and inexperienced. Not realistic to think we won't have 3-4 underclassman playing at times.

QB update: Still not a lot of great news to report, though we saw a small bit of improvement on Monday. Joshua Dobbs had some good throws, but is still sailing some of them. Justin Worley is underthrowing a lot of balls. Nathan Peterman didn’t hurt himself in what we saw of his work with the first team, though it’s still difficult to see him really getting in the mix at this point. He’s done some good things in camp. We’ll keep an eye on him going forward.

From RTI so I'm not sure who's lying?

saw this as well and was wondering the very ame thing as you.

seems like the ferguson thing all over again.

Definitely some chex mix being served up on the QB front. Mixed info coming out of practices. If Worley is the best we have and I could imagine he is I'll pray that our brand new line keeps him off his ass.
Simms is on an NFL roster now but we all remember what he looked like under pressure all game.

Don't understand why folks believe this O-Line is a group of true freshmen like that year for Simms...with no experience...coaching...S & C....:dunno: ?

If the coaches begin to praise the q.b.'s now, then the q.b.'s may think that they have arrived and not work as hard in practice.
At the right time, bUTch will talk well of the q.b.'s.

Competition plain and simple...to the very end!

Jayson Swain has been to enough practices that I'll trust his judgement. I bet watching him and Bret Smith back in the day made for fun practices.

My (very unofficial) take on the QB's after watching all videos and reading all media accounts posted here:

Worley looks to be the front runner, and has a little added zip. He still underthrows, though...not glaringly underthrows, but enough for receivers to have to slow down, pause, stop, adjust, catch low, etc.. This is particularly evident on longer throws.

Dobbs has a nice arm, but is trying too hard. Maybe thinking too much or getting frustrated, causing some overthrows. He needs another year, but I still have faith in his playmaking ability down the road.

Peterman looks serviceable, but not fantastic. I think he is better than we give him credit for, and certainly better than his FL performance last year.

I ain't sleeping on Mike Wegzyn. Looks like he can sling that ball and with decent accuracy.

I honestly think Buutch and Co. aren't tipping their hand on the QB situation because they don't want any of the QBs to transfer this year. They need the depth. I think they will prolong the appointment as long as they can.

Just my take. Now...bring on the arguers!!

It will probably help that he has a few more targets this year. I am not sure any of the receivers from last year would have started for many schools.

Nothing against North and Pig but last year they probably don't start for the top half of the SEC.

This year they will light it up.

Are you serious? I agree with you on Pig, but North is a stud. And he was a true freshman.

Pig won't start for UT this season, and he has more experience than any receiver on the team.

You think? One of Butch's biggest complaint seemed to be older player on the field leadership. Howard is good enough to start and be the General on the field for these young skilled WR's...he may not be on the field always but at the beginning of the season his presence will be desperately needed on the field.

From what I've read about practice, Howard has been practicing with the 2's. Not a knock on him, just a testament to the talent at WR. North, Pearson, and Malone are practicing with the 1's. Wharton is making strides to play the slot

Yes, really. Try reading one.

Umm, I've read all of the ones posted here or UTSports.com. Most reports are linked from this board somewhere.

Reports have been mixed since your comment. Prior to that, most if not all reports that had come out had NOT specifically criticized Worley or else they commented on how much better he looked.

Jones has said publicly that he wants to play 9 deep in the WR/S rotation. Pearson, Malone, North, Smith, Croom, Howard, and Wharton sound like a very talented 7. Someone said that Bowles is making progress. Johnson and Gamble could contribute.

I think they are fairly close to rotating 8-9 guys in with the 1's.
