Why would we have trouble finding a replacement. There are plenty of good coaches out there.

I am curious who you think we could get. Not being a smarta$$ here, just curious what names you think we would have a legitimate shot at.

I agree it is absolutely ridiculous to blame pearl for this loss, or to say that he needs to go. Tennessee has so much potential and this season was not a complete failure. We were blessed with Lofton and J. Smith last year, but they fueled our team. This team did not meet its lofty expectations because they had to find a new style of play. You could make the argument that this season was perhaps Pearl's second best coaching year because he made the adjustments to turn the Vols into a 1 seed in the SEC tourney. we only had three bad games all year IMO and those were the two KY games and our loss to Ole Miss. To me, we had no excuse for playing that bad, but we couldn't shoot at all. The USC game was a huge statement for how much the team matured and the loss today was just a small blemish on our extremely difficult schedule and may also go a long way to keep our boys' egos in check. So everyone should chill out and give the team your full support.

Dane Bradshaw and Chris Lofton played with heart and desire . Your born with that it cant be coached . JMO

You can start with any coach making less than $2 mil per and go from there.

.... which would be more than enough to get Huggins, of course. Along with Jamie Dixon, Mark Few (I know you're not a big fan, but still...), Jay Wright, or even Ben Howland ($1.97m).

BP is an excellent coach who has gotten UT back in the NCAA tourney every year. We forget that he lost Duke Crews and Ramar Smith before the season and these young players have been inconsistent. Smith and Chism have not been great leaders for most of the year. That being said this is a team that can play with anyone or certainly lose to inferior talent. This team must decide it wants to play to the level it is capable and be disciplined with their work ethic. Pearl needs to hold them more accountable and put their butts on the bench when they play out of control. We also do not have a consistent threat outside like last year with Lofton and Smith. GO VOLS!

BP is a good coach but i think some of the players play their best when they want to not when the coach motivates them to play their best..BP should stay as coach

I'm willing to chalk up today's game to the early start and a feeling that the team wasn't playing for anything. The fans and team should know better since NCAA seeding is at stake in every game until the tournament, but I think everyone was overlooking this game ansd just counting it as a win. I also believe it would have been a pretty easy win if it started after 2pm. I'd have them shooting free throws at 8am every day until the next game.

Come on....this is so lame. Now we're blaming the early start? I guess someone forgot to tell Alabama to play crappy since it was early. And someone forgot to remind Alabama that they have pretty much nothing to play for. And if UT had that feeling that there was nothing to play for, then they are dumber than I thought.

Just stop blaming the time....to think if it had started at 2:00PM we magically would have won easily is quite naive.

Where are the Tennessee fans. The majority of you sound like a bunch of ingnorant inbreds, with no idea of what a fan is. You are a bunch of whinee sissy boys who only back one of our sports teams when they do well. You expect us to win everygame ??????????????????? That would be nice. But , Let's get real !!!!! A true fan backs their team. Win or lose. Grow up or get off this site. GO BIG ORANGE !!!!!!!!!!!!

lets fire bp so we can go back to the days of being a doormat like UGA, put 8 thousand fans in the seats, and come up with an upset every couple of years so 23 students can storm the court. PLEEEEEEEAAASSE! i really miss buzz ball. remember those days were we change our style of bb everygame. "tonight we will slow the tempo down" lose by 15. "uh tonight we will play fast paced" lose again. what abunch of turds. Bruce is the man. deal with it.

All Tennessee had to do was hit MOST of the Free Throws and this topic is moot.
UT lost this game, Bama did not win it.

Not really. We still played a terrible game and lost to a very, very mediocre team, at home, on Senior Day. It's just not a good way to head into the tournaments, and we know we can play much better basketball.

There's nothing to do right now. You're stuck with him. He has built up incredible equity with the portion of the fanbase that doesn't know if a basketball is stuffed or inflated. Also, had I been the AD in the Spring of '05, Bruce Pearl would have never gotten within 200 miles of Knoxville.

then i am glad you are not a ad b/c you would of made a huge mistake bruce pearl has brought life to a dead program and i guess winning the sec east is not enough for some of you guys.. as i stated before let this team finish the season before you pass judgement b/c im tired of seeing the negative posts after losses and the positive posts when we win...

apparently you aren't reading his or Bruce Pearl's other critics posts after wins. We pretty much always have the same things to say. No defense, halfcourt offense looks terrible, etc.

I agree with this point, but will add something. We've finally witnessed Pearl building his team to a creshenda at the right time. This loss was a fluke. I think it could be very providential in that it stokes the fire going into the tourney of a team that has continually grown leaps and bounds over the last few weeks. Pearl will be able to use this "fluke" to hammer and refocus....get some serious sessions in and have a hungry team take the floor next week. IMO

Sometimes I wonder if this is a Tide site just fooling me into thinking its VOLnation...scary thought. And FWIW, I played college bball and everyone loses games they should easily win, it's easy to say they should do this and do that when you're sitting at home watching the game in your la-z-boy.

GO VOLS!

Does everyone lose multiple games they should win in the same season that they allow a player from one of their rivals to drop 54 on them?

Vasquez from Maryland put up almost 40 and beat UNC (their rival). The fact of the matter is that Pearl is a good coach whether some of you want to belive it or not. You dont win 400 games and take a team who was absolutely horrible(UT) and make them the number 1 team in the country (last year) for the first time ever by being a crappy coach do you??? <--- answer this question!

Anyone who thought this was going to be an easy year obviously doesn't watch or play to much bball. Replacing your entire backcourt and having absolutely 0 seniors that play = an inconsistant season no matter how you look at it. Pearl has made them work on shooting free throws, facing the zone and playing better defense, but this team is young, thus inconsistant.

BTW, I was at the UK game and Meeks would have dropped 54 on anybody that night..he was unconcious :p

Does anybody think we will win the play-in game? I think if the opposing team plays zone, we will not.

1. The game started at the same time for both teams.
2. Remind me what Alabama was playing for today.

I wasn't making excuses. They are possible reasons though... It is every bit as pathetic a loss as it seems. I put the blame for the team not being ready on the coach. I am not going to say any more about Bruce because I am still undecided about the real Bruce Pearl. I won't go to one extreme or the other just yet. And Alabama was at least playing for a slightly higher seeding in the SEC tournament.

We certainly can play better basketball, and I hope that we will. I would really like the Vols to overachieve or at least play up to seeding in postseason play this year. Under CBP, we have played in 6 postseason tourneys (SEC and NCAAs) and underachieved seeding 5/6 times. I was hoping that we were peaking toward a tourney run based on the wins at USC and UF, but after this game, I have my doubts.
