Worst football program in the state?

A good nominee for this year is Copper Basin. Have they even scored a point in a game yet?

Edit: they have been out scored 142-7 through three games.

We lost a ton of guys, including a great QB. We were 8-4 last year and 11-2 in 2010. We are an extremely small public school (5th-10th smallest public school in the state playing football.). Success comes in spurts, we will be back.

WHOOOOOOOAAAAAAA NELLIE!!!!! By the time those Hilltoppers got to the top of that hill, they had dropped 90 points on those po' Pioneers!

Yes folks, we've had a stressful couple weeks. It looked like Armageddon was starting with Syria serving as ground zero. But an even bigger harbinger of what could be the end of the world as we know it.... DAVID CROCKETT STARTED THE SEASON 2-0!!!!!

Wins over Sullivan East and Unicoi County (each making a statement for inclusion in this thread) left the Pioneers 2-0, and some wondering if the world was going to end.

Then it started.

School and community pride turned into trash talking on social media sites. Head Coach Jeremy Bosken was named Tennessee Titans coach of the week (voters obviously had no idea where Sullivan East or Unicoi County were, or if they even fielded competitive football teams). Local business owners were even commenting that they would close up shop early on Friday to make the trip to Kermit (just the tip) Tipton Stadium. Even Judge (and Crockett alumnus) John Rambo cleared his docket of hearings and an early autumn round of golf with Mayor (and Crockett alumnus) Kelly Wolfe to attend the game.

We can all rest easier now. Thankfully, Science Hill proved the end of the world is not nigh.

After leading 76-14 at halftime, the 'Toppers cake walked the second half with a continuously running game clock to win 90-21. That's not a typo. NINETY to TWENTY-ONE.

And now, the updated stats in Crockett football futility.....

I went to Polk County, so Im familiar with Basin. I was thinking you guys had been pretty good the past couple of years. The Polk/Basin games needs to come back.

Last game, you guys threw confetti abd trash all over our field. Vandalism was becoming a major problem like it did in the 80's. I personally would rather play Fannin. When I went to school (88-93) we did not play you guys. Fannin was our big rival. Our communities seemed to intermingle more than we do with people from below the mountain.

After the 90-21 beat down, Crockett went to Elizabethton tonight (yes, it was a homecoming road game for the 2nd week in a row for the Pioneers) and lost 52-0, setting another mark for the 8th (tied) worst lost in margin of victory/defeat in school history.

Yeah, this game seems to disappear when Polk gets good...we've replaced it with Bradley. You're right, Ive lived and worked on both sides west Polk deals more with Bradley County and you guys Fannin County.

I went to HS in Georgia so I am not all that familiar with local high schools. But Lavergne HS has to be on this list somewhere. They opened in 1988, and have beaten rival Smyrna High School just one time over those 25 years. Smyrna is a border city so there shouldn't be that much of a talent discrepency. I live near LHS and on Friday nights their stadium is dead.

The Gods of football fortune have smiled on the Pioneers this year. Or is that football misfortune?

After starting 2-0 (against teams that finished with a combined 5-15 record), Crockett was thrashed the next 3 consecutive weeks, outscored 203-28.

Then Chuckey-Doak came to town. And somehow the Pioneers managed to defeat a likely playoff team. C-D led 14-13 at the half, but managed to fumble and penalize itself out of the game in the second half, allowing 2 easy Crockett tds.

Wins the next 2 weeks against the weak sisters of D-1 6/5 A Sullivan Central (35-8) and Volunteer (43-42) had Crockett in position to clinch a playoff berth. Central finished 3-7. Volunteer 1-9.

All Crockett had to do was win one of the last 2 games on the schedule against Tennessee High and Daniel Boone and a winning season (the first in roughly 12 years) was guaranteed, as well as a playoff berth. Win both, and with some losses by Knoxville area teams, and they could host a playoff game.

Well, the Vikings pillaged Crockett 2 weeks ago, 41-6, recording 7 interceptions in the process.

Second verse, same as the first. Crockett gets rolled over at Boone, 42-6.

After winning 3 in a row to reach a 5-3 record, they drop their last 2 to finish 5-5. That is only the 5TH time in school history the team has finished at .500.

So, at least for 2013, David Crockett is NOT one of the worst teams in the state. BUT before we are so quick to pick up the Urine Yellow and Turd Brown doormat, let's look at some alarming numbers:

1- only one game was decided by less than a touchdown. So either they're getting blown out, or they're blowing out other teams. Who are these teams they're blowing out?

2- are in their conference- Volunteer and Sullivan Central. Crockett lost big to both last year. This year they handled Central by 4 td's, but nipped Volunteer by only 1.

1- Crockett defeated only 1 team with a winning record- Chuckey-Doak (7-3). If not for trick plays that would have made Sean Payton grin, they easily could have been behind 14-0 at the half of that game.

4.75- Not counting the ridiculous anomaly of the Science Hill loss (90-21), Crockett scored on average 4.75 points in each of it's other 4 losses.

11- straight victories by Daniel Boone in the Muskrat Bowl. Another win by the 'Blazers in 2014 secures a 9th Musket retired to Daniel Boone. Crockett has only 1.

Crockett looks to be headed to Knox West in the first round of the playoffs, practically assuring a 5-6 season. I'm taking West, minus 40 points.

Morristown East went 1-9 last year and turned it around to a 9-1 season this year, ranked 10th in the state. Only loss was to Sevier County by 4 and we had that game won but let it go. There's talking that Dwayne Hatcher is in the running for TSSAA coach of the year.

He is far more deserving of the award than A-Bisken-A-Bosken. M-East defeated real competition. Crockett defeated a bunch of weak sisters of NETN hs football, and 2A Chuckey-Doak. They limped into the playoffs. They'll be run out of the stadium.

and there was the article about the family of a player on a Texas team that lost 90 plus to zero. The family charged the other team/coach with bullying.

In 1997, my school lost a game 95-3.

Six years later, they won a state championship.

So I would tell them: Nut up. Get better coaches. Do something. It's a mean sport. Nobody feels sorry for you.

Egos are big (and frail) in Texas and high school football is a "religion" in much, if not most, of the state.

BUMP

Not a Tennessee school but Gilmer Co. Ga. Bobcats (Ellijay, Ga. About 30 miles south of the TN/NC border) is 0-8 this season. They have been outscored 410-14. IMO, they are probably 1 of the worse 4A teams in the southeast. Fannin is 3A team with a 2-6 record, Union is also another 3A team, Murphy is a NC 1A team (Carl Pickens's Alma Mater)

Read most of the postings here since the first in 2008. Surprisingly no mention of Cumberland County High School in Crossville. My alma mater. Curt Watson was a classmate & the Jets had GOOD teams. For the past 20+ years it has been abysmal. :yuck:

Alma-mater as well. Can't quite pin what's holding that program back so badly but I do feel for the young men that have been a part of it during those years.

Cumberland County. They were the Jets, right? They had the jet replica in front of the school, it was intimidating the first time, then we beat that a$$, and we were a lower A school..
