Starship Troopers' big problem was that it couldn't decide whether to be a brutally biting satire about how narrow-minded & nationalistic we get when faced with a legitimate threat, like the original 1959 Heinlen novel, or just be a Sci-Fi B-movie with lots of action and sexual tension.

Personally, especially since I had pretty low expectations, I thought the movie, with all the "media breaks" (Do you want to know more?) did a decent job of preserving the original satiric tone while still whoring itself to the market enough to be successful.

"Worst movies" should be films that weren't what they were supposed to be. Not merely movies that you didn't care for. For example, I hated Titantic and Gladiator, but they were well made movies that hit their marks. I just didn't care for them. So in my mind, they don't really qualify for worst movie status. On the other hand, a movie that is SUPPOSED to be socially important, campy, scary, intellectual, adventurous, biographical, etc. BUT FAILES MISERABLY to achieve these goals, qualifies.

Here is a short listing of my ideas, without further commentary.

Godfather III
Star Wars: Phantom Menace
Troy
Dumb and Dumb-er
Battlefield Earth
The Island of Dr. Moreau

I think I put too much thought into this. I gotta get back to work.

Eyes Wide Shut. I kind of like that one. I can never get tired of looking at Nicole in her undies.

Yeah, but what else would you expect from Stanley Kubrick? It was a strange movie and the constant playing of that piano going over the same 3 notes tended to get on my nerves.

Any movie with Nick Cage... He has got to be the worst actor ever to get such great roles. Gone in 60 Seconds & Face Off could have been great, yet it will forever be relegated to the bargain bin at Walmart.

Any movie with Ice-T as the star.

Any movie with a DOG as the star.

Any movie with J-LO, Madonna or Britteny Spears as the star.

Any movie with barnyard animals as the... Well, you get the point.

Fast and Furious I & II. Terrible.

TRON & Gattica are also some of the worst on record.

I felt the same way about Leaving Las Vegas. Other than Raising Arizona, I don't get why he's so sought after.

I liked the one where they were hunting him. Was it called "The Most Dangerous Game?" I know that was the short story it was based upon.

My vote goes to "The Day After Tomorrow." WAY overhyped, completely ridiculous. Go ahead and check it out if you want to test out your new HDTV and surround sound, but be prepared for a complete letdown. I really almost turned it off -- it gets so bad that it starts to bother you. I'm sure there are lesser-known movies that may suck worse, but for the money spent and publicity, this one takes the cake.
