I like it. In fact, I think some people are sleeping on Strong.

1) People are totally ignoring the fact that he's has completely built Louisville from the ground up. If he were to stay at Louisville next yr, his team has a chance to flirt with being undefeated or 11-1. He'll be a hot item.

2) People who question his recruiting have me scratching my head. You can't recruit to Louisville like you can Tennessee. This man has recruited this region for over half his life and has done so rather well. He's gonna get some good defensive lineman here and some better defensive speed.

3) He's got 3 NC rings. One coaching D-line for Lou Holts at ND in 88' and 2 as a DC in Florida. He was also the first African American DC in the SEC when he went to SC with Lou Holts. This guy's played prominent roles under two Hall of Fame coaches.

4) Stability. We're giving him his big break! The SEC is Charlie's home. He understands Tennessee and the magnitude of this job. Hes worked his entire college career for a job like this. I don't see him up and leaving us for another job.

People need to quit bichin' and moaning about this coach and that coach....coaches we are not going after and coaches who will never come. This comes down to the dudes who are actually up for this job. If its Charlie Strong then we need to get behind him and quit all this dumb ****.

Going from Derek Dooley to Charlie Strong should be enough to make anyone in this thread jump for joy.

Charlie Strong is a real football coach who will win a lot of games at UT. I don't know if he will have us in the National Championship hunt year in and year our, but he will be very successful here.

Just relax and chill, doubters.

I don't hate Strong, I think he could be solid, but he's not a championship caliber coach.

Hiring him is rather depressing. It's like someone (Dooley/Kiffin) came and burned your house down. You'd love to build it back better than ever, but instead you're only allowed to build it back to less than what it had been and much less than what you know it could be. While your neighbors build more and more additions.

Strong is like that. He may get us back to beating Georgia and South Carolina regularly, but he's never going to beat Florida and Alabama.

So you just conceded Muschamp is a champion coach. Was it because when he was hired, he was s great SEC coordinator? Was it because he was a great SEC recruiter. Man, I wish Strong had that resume.

The only people who look at Strong's resume if he is hired and Muschamp and say that Muschamp is a championship coach while Strong isn't are looking at something else that has nothing to do with coaching. If not, please explain.

Strong didn't build Louisville from the ground up. Petrino gets a lot of that credit. Strong would be a decent hire but I don't know if he will compete at the top of the SEC. He is definitely not the home run hire we need.

I voted eh, but I think Butch is a no brainer. Having said that, I could get behind Strong. I donno if he will be winning any championships here but ge is a massive upgrade from Dooley.

Petrino had been gone for three season before Strong arrived. Look at what Steve Kragthorpe did to the program in those three seasons.

Petrino gets the credit for what Strong did? There was a pathetic coach that was 15-21 in between there. Give me a reason why he wouldn't compete in the SEC. Of all the teams that have their head coach, Strong has the 3rd most impressive résumé at the time of hire behind Saban and Spurrier. He is a 2 time championship coordinator, a championship assistant coach at ND, and he rebuilt a program ruined by a coach worse than Dooley and is in a BCS bowl. He has three rings as an assistant and a BCS bowl appearance as a HC. What an average coach!

Rich...there is some ignorant posters on here and no matter how much logic you present to them they will never be able to comprehend it.
Strong would be a great hire for UT. Imo

I think Strong is a solid guy (and a good plan C, which unfortunately is where we're at right now). I just don't think he will be the long term solution that UT needs.

I'll support him and root for his teams until my breath runs out and my head aches from the effort...

But IMO a very underwhelming hire.

Very well put. Strong is probably the best of this week list that I have herd which include Gundy, Fisher and Golden. However, he by far not the home run hire that we were expecting, that Hart spoke of. Now, names that should be included are Kelly, Peterson, Patterson Tressel even with a show cause and even Patrino is far better than these third round choices that we have once again stooped to. Now with that said, I realize the logic behind Patrino. However, Auburn will get him and they will win and win quickly. Tressels show cause just means we get a good deal on a proven winner and a great coach. A few games without him for the first year would not affect the program. A few years with one if these last choice coaches could very well kill an already wounded Tennessee football program!

Please see Steve Kragthorpe's (Petrino's replacement) time at UL and tell me the situation Strong entered did not need complete rebuilding

Kelly: not sure which Kelly you mean here, but either way why would either leave the situation they are in: Brian, about to play in a NC game, and Chip, lots of people expecting him to jump to the NFL.

Petersen: Has had multiple opportunities to go somewhere else and make BANK, and has turned them all down. You cannot force a coach to a school.

Patterson: Same as Petersen, plus the fact that he is in TX (lots of very good players to recruit) and now playing in an AQ conference. Unless he wants to test the waters and prove himself somewhere else, there is no reason to leave.

Tressel: Do we really want a 59 year old man that would have to miss the first 5 games of the season and bring tons of NCAA attention to our program? You talk about Strong as settling, explain to me how this is not settling...

Petrino: His track record as a coach is impressive: proven winner. But at what cost? Everywhere he has been he has left in some manner of shady, unprofessional way. Another interesting note on Petrino: (Heard this on one of the local radio talk shows a while back) Because of the nature of how he left Arkansas, with regard to the hiring of his mistress in a position under him (pun intended) in the AD, I believe he is still indicted in some kind of lawsuit with the University and the State of Arkansas because this is a direct violation of both university and state policy. Other thought, how can we be sure this is the place he wants to end up? I am sure we all view UT as an absolutely PREMIERE job, but does he? I guess that could be said of any coach, but Petrino specifically has a history of jumping to the "next best" job.

JMO, TIFWIW

Nothing personal...but it's posts like this that make me smh.

Strong is not "desperate". He's widely regarded as one of the top prospects in the country. This is why his AD has stated he will pay whatever it takes to keep Strong, why his name is constantly mentioned every time there is an opening at a big program, and also why he got irritated just yesterday at the media for constantly asking him if he is leaving.

Again, no offense, but if you think going after Strong is "desperate" you have been living in a hole.

Really.
A mediocre coach in a pussy conference with an average win/loss record.
The SEC coaches will eat him for lunch.
Get real.

You get real, "ice". Name the prospect. Let's hear your choice from the valid, available candidates. Put up. Seems to me Strong's defenses while at UF were the ones having lunch.

please don't hire him, he is not worth what we are paying him we might as well close the body farm and get gruden, i don't want strong he'll only be coming for the money he won't give a crap about tennessee. we don't need that kind of coach and i don't want it. gruden might come for the money but at least he has some ties to tennessee.

he can't decide to come or go fast enough, how's he gonna make game decisions in an instant flip a quarter??

Haven`t you noticed, Fla owns us, no matter who the coaches are.
They always get talent we cannot get.
