Would you want Bruce Pearl back? [Pearl discussion — merged]

Define successful? We've seen mediocre success with Barnes, he had 1 great season and it's been a struggle ever since.
And Pearl flamed out several times way too early in the SEC and NCAA. The 2007-08 team losing to Arkansas in the SEC semis and getting embarrassed by Louisville come to mind. Along with Mississippi State and Oklahoma State the following year, the absolute taking to the woodshed by Kentucky the next. Don't act like Pearl never underachieved. He underachieved in at least half of his years here, and has all the baggage.

But so many are acting like we struck gold with Barnes, like he is the pinnacle of success here when in fact he's been pretty middle of the road in standards of UT basketball. Rick Barnes is a prime example of how wasteful this University has been with money, it's deeper than just his salary, it exposes another issue. Hoping for brighter days under Danny White and next time Rick comes calling for a raise tell him to kick rocks
Well, Danny White just gave him another raise, did he not?

And I don't think he's the pinnacle of success at Tennessee, but he is easily top-3, likely top-2 depending on what metric we're using to make that determination.

Of that top 3, he's likely the only future HOF'er, as of today. Pearl may make a case in the long run, though it's fair to wonder if his NCAA troubles will hamper his candidacy.

Regardless, Rick Barnes's salary is a non-issue for me, and it shouldn't be an issue for other fans, either. If you're looking for the silver lining, his salary is proof that to our fans and potential future coaches that we aren't afraid to invest in our basketball program, which was a knock on our AD during the 80s, 90s, and early 00s.

You realize he's not all that great right? He's probably 3rd on the list here in terms of success.
Which is it? Middle of the road, or 3rd? Pearl's immediate success is just a testament that Buzz could recruit and left him a good roster. Barnes walked into a ****-show and has produced a solid foundation. People are so enamored with immediate success that they don't realize that it's unstable.

You brought up Pearl, not me. UT gave Barnes a top 5 salary in the country when they knew he had already reached his ceiling here, his time at Texas proved that. Rick Barnes is never going to be any better than what we're getting right now, period.

You commented on a thread about Pearl. Don't pin that crap on me.

Holy hell you are obsessed with Pearl. Barnes has regressed since that 18-19 season, his recruiting says he's underachieving here. Immediate success? He's been here for 7 years.

Holy hell, you can't even read the thread title. You don't want to talk about Pearl, don't comment on a thread about him.

Again, was having a whole other conversation and you stuck you nose in it. Why don't you go play in the corner and let the grown ups talk.

This is a valid point however I don't see the value in Barnes like some others do, I think his style doesn't mesh well with today's player.

Steve Forbes. A link to the past, a bridge to the future.
If you get a show cause at UT, it forever disqualifies you from future employment at UT.

If Forbes had been smart enough not to go along with Pearl’s lies, he may have been elevated to HC after Pearl was fired. Alas, he wasn’t.

Today’s players are mostly Charmin soft. They’d never have survived the 80s/90s NBA

You're a fist fight in a phone booth kind of guy, aren't you?
Nah, just fascinated by commenting on a topic in a thread, and then seeing those who get defensive when said topic is brought up. There are several threads all about Barnes where I won't mention Pearl, but you act all high and mighty when he's brought up in a thread about him?

Defensive? lol you really live in your own world. Tell you what, I'll do you a favor since you seem simple minded enough. You win

Yes, defensive. And keep your pandering and deflections. You only want to talk about Barnes, here ya go, since you seem to be struggling. Sorry but its getting old [Barnes discussion]

You have the mental capacity to be able to converse about him and Pearl, I'm here.

I don't know anyone that thinks we struck gold with Barnes. Quit making stuff up.

I can't think of any coach below Barnes in salary, except Izzo and Self, that deserve more than him. That's more of a poor refection on their agents than anything else. Chris Mack, Fred Hoiberg, Brad Underwood, Larry Krystkowiak, and Pearl all make more than them. I'm glad a blueblood was unable to poach our coach, myself. Might just be me. Kudos to our AD.

This could be Auburn's what 2nd final four in 3 yrs. TN has never made it once. Yes Bruce made a bad decision to lie to the NCAA but he was just trying to recruit a good kid, who went on to star at O. State. He messed up but he is not the slime ball criminal some of you are making him out to be. He has not done anything in recruiting than a lot of other schools do. Its the same cesspool for everyone.

Pearl's teams play very exciting BB Auburn is very happy to have him. No consistency issues there. Yes we have a good coach but he will not get us to level Pear has Auburn.
No consistency issues there? You only have to look at last year’s record to debunk your comment. They were 13-14 and 7-11 in the league.
