I can't think of any coach below Barnes in salary, except Izzo and Self, that deserve more than him. That's more of a poor refection on their agents than anything else. Chris Mack, Fred Hoiberg, Brad Underwood, Larry Krystkowiak, and Pearl all make more than them. I'm glad a blueblood was unable to poach our coach, myself. Might just be me. Kudos to our AD.

First, not making stuff up some of you would drink Barnes's bathwater. I'll let you in on a secret, he's not the saint you think he is.

Second, Kudos to Fulmer? You realize even after Barnes got the raise from UT he was still trying to sneak out the back door, right? Fulmer lucked into that when UCLA moved on from Barnes, then him and Barnes went on some tour around town like Barnes was truly in love with this place.

Now I’ll let you in on a little secret. I think everyone who frequents this board knows that EVERYONE messes up occasionally. Trying to question Barnes’ sainthood on a message board is pretty crass. The attempts people make to try to assassinate his character are mind-boggling.

You are correct. Why would he want to come back after the university putting a blade in his back. This alone is causing us trouble in hiring new coaches because they question whether or not they will be next. Pearl is becoming legend at Auburn, in the mix for national championships, well paid with a fan base that loves him. While we argue over if Barnes can get to 19 to 20 wins a season.

Just admit you are more a Pearl fan than you a Vol fan. It'll look so much better. This is worse than those claiming they were Colts fans when they were only Manning fans.

I'll admit I do think of what could have been if the university had stood up to the NCAA instead of setting up their coach for the NCAA. He's never coming back but I still hate the way he owns us now with no hope of competing against him till Barnes is gone.

You sound like you absolve Pearl of any and all wrongdoing, though. You've yet to acknowledge the elephant in the room which is that he is entirely at fault for putting his job in the hands of the NCAA and the university. He wasn't some innocent martyr and worse yet, he created the situation that forced the school's hand to take action in the first place. How do you not get that?

I know the university had the photo or at least Jimmy Cheek had it for two weeks and doesn't even ask his coach about it, Cheek allowed an assistant coach to be interviewed first without telling him he had the photo, granted the assistant lied when he said he didn't know where the photo was took but the university had a part in setting up their own coaches.

As far as the OP's question, no. Leaving Barnes out of it completely, I don't see any reason to hire back Pearl. Simply: I'd like to see the program always move forward. Pearl was here, now he's not, and there are reasons he's not. People kind of show you who they are, right? Pearl was a heck of a coach who brought an electric environment, some NCAA issues, an ex wife with a business named purely out of spite, and some pictures with people who were not that same ex wife. And now he's at Auburn, end of story. Pining for Pearl is sort of the basketball equivalent of saying Lane Kiffin's matured every time we have a bad day in football. Whenever Barnes decides to hang it up, I'd hope we would seek a new coach and not a retread.

Yep, this thread kinda confirms it. If this year ends up like I feel like it is shaping up, which is Auburn wins the SEC and make the Final Four and maybe even win it all, and UT is a one and done then I'll probably quit this board or at least take a LONG time off. This place will be insufferable with the Pearl slurpers and drive-bys. And make no mistake Barnes will deserve heat if this is how the season ends up (regardless of what Auburn does) but I just won't have the patience to deal with the constant pining for Pearl.

A lot of baskeball to be played so maybe Auburn flames out, we heat up, or maybe Pearl finally gets caught doing something. I'll take all the above.

Soooooooo, go ahead and lie to your employer. All they had to do was say hey, we screwed up and want to make it right instead of lets see how we can cover our pile of poop we made without anyone knowing about it. And then trying to get the recruit and parents to lie. Where do we stop as a society in order to win. If this is the direction, I want no part of it. I am far from a saint, but, once realizing I have messed up, I try to be man enough to admit it instead of admitting it after numerous attempts to be allowed to come clean.
