'19 WV OL Darnell Wright (Tennessee signee)

If he's signed , I don't think other schools are allowed to contact him. This brings up an interesting question, if the recruit hasn't made it public that he's signed, then how do other schools know? The receiver that we were chasing that signed early that announced for Oklahoma at the all-star game, were we not still recruiting him? Would that be considered a NCAA violation?

twas the dead period so no

Only if they’re official. He can unofficial to every school in America if he chooses.

Technically true, but any sort of contact would be a violation.

But fwiw I've NEVER heard of a silent SIGNEE, for these very reasons. Most are thinking of silent verbals.

During the dead period the coaches and recruits can still speak, they just can't have face to face contact.

It's been reported that Haslewood signed with OKLAHOMA in the early signing period but kept it quiet until the AA game.

If Wright signs, UT is on the road to a good OL. Next year, get a couple of the Memphis OL recruits and send Neids up to Wisconsin and get a couple of those "corn fed" 350lb guys to Knoxville. They always have a great line and they are all from there.

Pruitt and Friend have us on our way to creating actual quality 2 deep depth on the OL. Something we’ve been missing for a long long time.

If Tatum and J. Johnson can continue to develop in the offseason and add weight, it would help to bring these incoming freshman along the right way. Hopefully Wayna and Wright will be too difficult to keep off the field by mid season

So you’re saying go to Midwest and get the linemen that weigh more than 250lbs coming out of HS? Should be a good concept considering those undersized linemen always give there all despite being light in the seat

My fav OL used to be Nebraska, now its Wisconsin. If we can get our guys to remotely resemble them then we will push the DL back. With the guys we got coming in and are offering for the 20' class it looks like we are going that route. No more lil arms!!!

I think even more than that, the coaches can't visit the recruit's school. I could be remembering wrong.

[Edit] I was thinking of the quiet period. And even then, I had it backwards. Can only see them on campus.

Tiny Richardson and so did Trey & Jack Jones. They just had unfortunate situations. We haven’t sign many of them, a lot of Butch specials on our line

That's what I mean though, whether it's talent or injury, plenty of guys never pan out. Jack was definitely not himself by his junior year and Trey wasn't really himself last year. There are just so many unknowns. That's why we should wait to annoint incoming 18 year olds.

Completely agree. Starting 2 freshman on the OL in the SEC is a lot to ask. Trey was forced to play out of position and I believe thats why he didnt look the same. The Trey Smiths and Cam Robinson type of OL are rare. Ideally, both Morris and Wright (pending we get him) would RS.

They are vindictive. Happens all the time. Spoils the kids moment. All they have to do is an assistant coach tells a recruiting service off the record. The recruiting service spills it. It happens all the time with silent commitments.
I think it was Clemson a couple years ago. Had a coach or two tweet out some stuff that made it clear a guy they were going after wasn't coming to join them.

I think one or two of the kids who announced at the all star games were signees that hadn't gone public.

We don’t have the luxury of sitting Morris and Wright this next year. Ideally....yes. If both are as good as it seems, both will be starting as freshman.

To be fair, Smith started his freshman year at guard and killed it. Freshman All SEC, etc. Last year as a sophomore he played LT, didn’t look the same because he got zero time in the off season to practice and condition. It’s risky starting a freshman at LT, but if Wanya is good as advertised then he should be fine. Wright would do well at either guard spot as a freshman
