Darnell Wright, one of the Vols' longtime top targets, spent the final weekend before signing day back at Tennessee, as he had planned for weeks, and the visit did nothing to change the perception that Tennessee is the heavy favorite to land him going into signing day.
The 6-foot-6, 320-pound Wright has visited the Vols several times since Pruitt's hiring, including his unofficial visit to Knoxville in December just before the Early Signing Period. Home-state school West Virginia turned out to be the only other school that hosted him on an official visit leading up to signing day, and he now plans to announce his decision at 4 p.m. Eastern time Wednesday during a nationally televised ceremony.
Multiple sources close to the five-star offensive tackle's recruitment have continued to indicate that Tennessee remains in good shape with Wright, and returning to Knoxville over the weekend only added to his comfort level with the Vols, which already had made them the team to beat for him.
At this point, it would be a surprise if Wright didn't choose Tennessee on Wednesday. He remains undoubtedly the Vols' best bet of making another high-profile addition to their class, and he could join Wanya Morris as the second five-star offensive tackle in Tennessee's class.
-247 WiltfongHuntington (WV) High five-star offensive tackle Darnell Wright is wrapping up his official visit to Tennessee on Sunday, making the trip with his mom and brothers per his coach Billy Seals.
The Vols have been the 247Sports Crystal Ball favorite for months to land the blue-chipper, the competition has changed and Seals said that Neal Brown and the new staff at West Virginia has given the 6-foot-6, 320-pound Wright a lot to think about.
"West Virginia they've done a nice job," Seal said. "I've been impressed with the new staff. The coaches in state are impressed with how much time they've spent with us, they're tenacious on the recruiting trail. They've made some headway in state with the coaches. It was pretty impressive bringing their entire staff off the road to come visit with Darnell like they did last week."
I believed Tennessee had a huge lead for Wright down the stretch of this recruitment. We'll see if that stands come Wednesday and National Signing Day.

Trying to add some suspense here imo
WVU is irrelevant. Vol.Maybe but if you have followed recruiting for any length of time teenagers have a habit of doing the exact opposite of what some expect them to do. I have never believed the notion that he didn't sign in December because he wanted to keep the spotlight off of himself, waiting until February does the exact opposite. If he weren't interested in WVU, he wouldn't have taken a visit there. It isn't like he got to experience a great free trip. I am hopeful that he will be a Vol but to dismiss WVU as irrelevant is a bit naive.
WVU wasn't in it at all back at ESD. pretty sure Dana was still the coach then.Maybe but if you have followed recruiting for any length of time teenagers have a habit of doing the exact opposite of what some expect them to do. because the plan, even before he locked onto UT, was to sign in Feb. We rail against kids not keeping the word/commitment, but when one does keep his word we freak out that Wright is going somewhere else. And yet he didn't sign with UT then either. I believe he is headed to UT but it wouldn't shock me to see a prospect we thought we had locked up sign elsewhere.
