Yemi Makanjoula commits to Tennessee

Jones won't be at UT for 2 years. I think the rule is along the lines of: if you don't qualify as out of highschool, it's 2 years in a JuCo before you're eligible for D1 play.

UT should have 3 schollies left for 2011-2012.

That's a good way to completely eff your recruiting right there.

I agree. You may be able to talk with a player who is never going to see the floor and have a mutual agreement that it would be in their best interest to go to a lower division, but to just pull their scholarship would send a very bad message.

It's not an issue for Cal. All players he signs are basically one and done players anyway.

They had an Outside the Lines special a few weeks ago about Cal at KY and basically forcing two kids off the team. It was a pretty good show of just how low life he really is.

Cal handles his "defections" in a different way though. He gets the kids to decide to transfer without raising a big fuss. He doesn't simply yank a scholarship because he wants to recruit over a player's head. At the end of the day, the casual fan thinks it's the player's idea instead of Cal's. Say about him what you will, but when it comes to controlling public perception, Cal is the maestro.

Memphis: I agree that its not the way you want to recruit normally but I see nothing wrong with Coach Martin going to players now, telling them he is willing to offer a 1 yr scholarship but they will likely have to compete to keep the scholarship after one year.

If a player wasn't going to get a high D1 scholarship under normal circumstances, wouldn't some of them jump on this offer?

Actually there are a lot more that stay more than one year than those who don't. Yeah, he had the five in one year and Rose and Evans at Memphis, but it still lags way behind the actual number who are there for at least two years.

I will agree with you that it's not really an issue for Cal, but it's because he has no trouble signing highly ranked players.

like it is the player's decision to leave. That is common practice...

If anyone else has been curious as to what Makanjuola looks like, here's a few pics I found.

Question about the second picture. Why is he finger-rolling it in from point blank range? Another 6'9" guy that doesnt dunk?
