You are mistaken if you blame pearl

there is the point.
as much as Pearl does not get credit for 124 points or 105 pts he does not get blame for horrible shooting night.
NOT A SINGLE PLAYER SHOT WORTH A CRAP.
HOW CAN YOU PUT MATCHUPS IN WHEN WHOLE TEAM DID NOT PLAY WELL

I BET 90% OF THE RESPONDERS HERE NEVER PLAYED HS BASKETBALL MUCH LESS PAST THAT OR COACHED

So? Doesn't take a former player/coach to see what the problems are on this team.

Ronnie Milsap agrees.

He gets far more credit than he deserves for beating the backwater USA teams. We hear about his 25 win seasons constantly. What we don't hear is how rarely we beat good coaches.

been there in coaching as done it for 15 years.....sometimes things just don't go your way at all

they were hyped for KO verse his old team and played their super bowl today.

not CBP fault following:
20/58 2's for 34% worst of year
2/22 3's 9%.worst of year
13/25 52% ft's worst of year.

for usc
54% 2's... 2nd best of year
42% 3's best of year
80 fts

we also missed i guarantee over half our shots WIDE OPEN including 6 shots from within 2 feet.

COACHING CANNOT CHANGE THAT..

tonight was USC's night....PERIOD

u musta been a horrible coach. if you can't see the lack of discipline, lack of effort, lack of execution of the supposed "pearl system", lack of X's and O's... WHICH HAS BEEN GOING ON FOR AT LEAST 2 YEARS NOW... then you obviously don't know what you are looking at.

You kinda knew it was going to be one those games* when Chism threw up four three pointers in the first few minutes.

*By one of those games, I mean the kind where the game plan appears to be to dribble and pass it around outside the arc for 30 seconds before the player with the ball at that time throws up a wild shot. Then again, that's most games. Never mind.

yeah, you're right. The fact that it was "USCs night" had nothing to do with the fact that we don't play defense and don't hustle.:eek:k:

well said. don't blame the coach for that... a coach can't control how players play. i don't even think a coach is allowed to talk to their players are they? let alone teach them about proper defensive stance.. or what a "box out" is.... after all its just to difficult to explain complicated things like having good shot selection.

you are 100% right.

I'm sure someone will reply that we had an off day shooting and what not.

But that's the importance of having a coach who can do even the slightest amount of coaching to get the players better looks.

This loss has to be a light bulb going off to some people. If they don't have the light bulb moment, they are buried deeply in the sand.

In an entire freaking game we had 17 rebounds and 5 assists. Those two stats alone should tell anyone who has ever played, coached or watched the game of basketball that this loss doesn't come down to "it was their night."

It isn't 100%, but it's a good indicator of who we are, which, legend says, is a reflection of our coach.

I use to respect Pearl in his first couple of years, because the players would play extremely hard and hustle. Now I see that it was those players that did it themselves, instead of the coach requiring it.

we had an off-day shooting and still took somewhere around 25 three's...that's on coach. you simply say stop taking so many three's and attack the basket. If your players respect you, they will listen.

and you are right, when you hang around 30 ft. from the basket for 25 seconds, then you are going to get bad looks...terrible looks...

and when you have MHF realizing that maybe Bruce isn't as good as we thought, then I think it says it all. There is no doubt in my mind we will never get to the next level with Pearl. Hell, we might be dropping a level.

until we see otherwise, it's hard not to agree with that

All you have to do is look at the last month of basketball posts on this site....What have they been about? Shot selection, Poor 3 point shooting, Poor FT shooting, substitutions, and bad half court offense.

My point is this was not a one game problem. It has been going on all year and yes the coach should do something about it.

The difference between them:

The women lost to a very good team.

The men lost to a basketball abomination.

the other difference between them:

the women have a coach that is a good coach.

the men have a coach that is a good marketer.

You should be banned for most ignorant post of the year. Why in the world would you defend Bruce Pearl? Did you watch the same game, or for that matter, ANY game this season? Okay. I'll clue you in on a "Notice".

Notice the players just standing around with absolutely no motion on offense.

Notice the passing back and forth and then the brick of a 3 that comes next or the Tyler Smith weak spin that we've seen for 3 years now?

Notice how McBricks minutes aren't getting weaker when he's too slow to guard or even drain the botton of the net but OBVIOUSLY is one hell of a practice player.

Notice how CJ Watson is the only PG worth a crap under Pearl (and wasn't even recruited by Pearl)? and how we've talked about a weak PG ever since?

Notice getting killed on the glass against weaker teams because your big men are slappin' their nuts around the arc?

Notice how our press sucks but he still sticks with it because that's his substitute for a half court offense, since he has no direction or means of drawing up a simple play in the half court offense?

Notice how none of his players use their abilities to their best (Chism outside when he should be inside, Hopson standing around in Chris Lofton land when he should attack the rim etc...)

Notice how he makes constant excuses for his teams when in all reality, we are overrated and NOT even a top 30 team?

I could go on and on and on but I just get pissed when I think about. This is the man that is getting elite money. People fussed that we didn't have an inside game. We now (could at least) have a comfortable punch in inside/outside players but everyone goes outside. It's ridiculous. You can blame Tennessee players for the stats but the truth of the matter is, we would not be 2-20 (or whatever it was) if Pearl LIMITED them from shooting and then you can say, maybe he did but they didnt' listen so then you can say he sucks because he has no control over his players. Either way, this has to fall on Pearl. It isn't just tonights game, it's the whole season and most of the time he's been here. Good lord.

Awesome post! It's been happening all year and it's time CBP started coaching instead of letting the players play the way they want.

Coaches should have enough control over their team to keep them from shooting 22 threes when they're not falling.

What a novel idea! Anyone who thinks allowing a team to continue jacking up threes when they're not falling isn't poor coaching, knows not much about basketball. That's just idiotic, no other way to say it.
