You are not a recruiter!

If they recruits didn't like all the people posting and argueing they wouldn't have created them/added them in the 1st place. It's how recruits get attention, and it works quite well. It seems like some ppl fall for ever word said on there... that is sad... Can't trust a personal page for recruiting especially Facebook!

I was told that the only way it can be a violation is if it is a group (Jac Smith to UT, for example) founded or led by anyone involved with the university...including students.

how can this be a violation? its a PUBLIC forum!!!!!!!

yeah but doesnt a booster donate MONEY?
That's one of the definitions, but I think it's a lot more broad than that. MY understanding is that season ticket holders, contributors or the nebulous "anybody acting as a representative of the school" falls under the definition.

Theoretically, you could be considered a booster if you are a member of any group that promotes Vol athletics . . . like say, this website.

I am going to go join other boards and then post false stuff on facebooks, recruiting them to USC... or what not. That we we can bring down all the schools..

That's the spirit.

I wonder if Lawgator knows that he's a Tennessee booster?

Wow at this topic. Its simple, we are in the age where this is the norm.(Watch sportcenter -mof, you can tweet sports nation live) Its safe to assume the majority of these kids love it.They are 17-18 year old elite athletes. The ones that aren't interested most likely don't have a page or have it blocked/private. People love attention and adoration, esp talented adolescent athletes. Think about the ego they develope throughout community celebration and the recruiting process. They often times offer an open invitation to this type of interaction, keeping track of "friends lists" and taking pride in high numbers of views(-rec tapes)/and or friends. The oppurtunities for unwanted communication drop signif w/o a page, book, space, or tube. Then again, so does your "exposure" catch 22 in 2010?!?

I've been using my sister's facebook account to chat with a few of the guys. She is pretty good looking imo, so I think I might be able to do some pretty solid persuading. I haven't got any inside info yet, but If I come up with anything I'll post it here first!

Is it "creepier" than choosing some recruit's picture as your avatar? Because quite a few respected posters on VolNation choose young male minors as their graphical representation.

Could one construe that as "creepy"? Of course. But we don't, because logically we know it is a sign of support - nothing more. It is the same for many people and contacting recruits on Facebook; it is done as a sign of pride for UT. Do some people go to far? Naturally, but that isn't the norm.

Anybody that rants against Facebook is just showing their age. Facebook and other social media are part of the fabric of how people 30 and under communicate.

I wouldn't add anybody I don't know personally, but a lot of kids I know don't see it as a problem.

THAT is creepy. Dude, what the hell is wrong with you?

I tend to side with the people saying that it's not an invasion of privacy since it's ultimately up to the recruits to decide whose friend requests they accept.

The problem is that Facebook stalkers probably tend to be kids under 18 or adults with IQ issues that tend to not be the best representatives of the school in the first place.

I HAVE to disagree with the OP. While I don't necessarily support posting "Come to Rocky Top" on prospects' facebook walls, we are all recruiters. We are recruiters when we go to games and scream our lungs out or when we wear Vols clothing in public.

There's a house in Georgia I drive by on my way to Atlanta that has a small flower garden in the yard that's very visible from the highway. The garden says "UT Tenn Vols" spelled out in flowers. You don't think that gets recruits' attention? It does.

I like Facebook.. Don't really talk to recruits but have some as friends.. Often read their status.. Not really stalking.. But I could really give a damn what any of you think.. Soo...

That does not make you a recruiter...thats called being a fan.

Its one thing to go to a game that you know a dozen recruits are at and scream your lungs out...its a totally different thing to take time to post some creepy message on their facebook wall and then have a 30 post argument about why UT is better than UGA or UF....on THEIR Facebook wall. I just don't see how any right-minded UT fan would condone that.
