You knew it wouldn't be long after the tragedy for this to be brought up

Truth is, what most people know about guns come from movies and tv.

A responsible person should never want their ability to defend themselves taken away.
The government/police are not going to get there in time.
Just remember, when seconds count, the police are minutes away.

When and where do you stop?

People quit driving dui, using farm equipment, fishing, boating, etc.

Do you ever get the gut feeling that slippery slope arguments prevent actual progress at times? I feel that way about gun control.

I'm a gun owner, and if they ban assault rifles tomorrow I wouldn't care less - IF WE KNEW that it would end there. But of course, the slipperly slope comes in - justified in a sense.

There are very few "responsible people" in my experience.

There are too many guns in the world.
No ban is going to stop people from owning and buying guns. A ban would simply open up a black market.

I do not think we all need to be walking around warring a gun.

Nope, you cant protect every one from every thing.

Never understood the over reaction to a weapon labeled with assault.

Politicians use it as a fear tactic. A true "assault weapon" is a fully automatic, detachable mag, rifle.
What most Americans own are clones, semi only. As a LEO i suppose you know all this though.
Its sick the way politicians use fear to pass an agenda.

I wouldn't get hung up on the label - I'm sure I could kill as many with a semi-auto rifle as most could kill with a fully auto rifle all things being equal. One shot one kill...

What we have to decide is if there is a need for people to own semi auto rifles with high volume magazines that enable them to do quite a bit of damage in a very short amount of time.

I don't think there is. Others of course disagree. No easy answer.

High capacity mags fail at a high rate which is why more people didnt die in Colorado.

recently, there was a USA today article that was discussing "ak-47 type weapons" and how prevalent they are. the picture was of an ar-15...

Put a pistol-grip stock on a toaster and some screeching hoplophobe would deem it an assault rifle.

ever notice that some of the more prominent advocates for gun control are protected by armed security?
