You knew it wouldn't be long after the tragedy for this to be brought up

Meanwhile in the rest of the world, mass killings are happening with zero press coverage

At Least 14 Dead After Truck Crashes in Texas - WSJ.com

At least 14 people were killed when a pickup truck crammed with 23 passengers slammed into two trees in rural South Texas Sunday night.

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement said the victims, who included two children, were from Guatemala, Honduras and Mexico. An ICE spokesman added that they were "alleged as being in the country illegally."

The agency has yet to interview the survivors to determine their immigration status, according to a spokesman

In an interview with CNN's Piers Morgan last night, Moore pleaded for more restrictive measures on gun ownership in the wake of the horrific massacre in an Aurora, Colorado, movie theater last week

"If people would just rise up and say 'Damn it, this is not the America I'm going to live in. This is too great of a country to let this happen again. I am not going to let this happen again,'" Moore said.

"And I am not going to come on another one of these damn TV shows either, after the next one of these shootings, Piers," he added. "I'm sick of this. I refuse it. I refuse to live in a country like this, as I said before, and, I'm not leaving. So therefore, what am I going to do? It's got to change."

I would love to know Mr. Moore's thoughts on Mexico.

Some observations:

First, and this is kinda a pet peeve, we don't have a bunch of AK-47's running around "on the streets of our cities.". A real AK-47 is a machine gun and strictly controlled per the National Firearms Act of 1934. There are semi-auto variants available for the general public but that's a distinction that gets lost all the time. Anti-gun types love ignorance like this with the general public.

All FFL transfers already require a background check. I didn't see anything specifically mentioned that goes beyond what is currently done. I bet there will be a lot of problems with compiling a national (or state) database for those with mental illness, particularly when it comes to where to draw the line. It won't be the gun lobby either, it'll be the privacy advocates and doctors.

"You're competing against young people in Beijing and Bangalore. They're not hanging out. They're not getting over. They're not playing video games. They're not watching 'Real Housewives.' I'm just saying: It's a two-way street. You've got to earn success," he said.

Hang on, hang on...he's not suggesting they could build success on their own merit and hard work...is he?

I don't understand the whole AK-47 tangent that he went down considering the shooter used an AR-15 variant.

The guy talks out both sides of his neck. Sickening.

I don't have a problem with people owning guns for hunting and owning pistols for personal/home protection. I do have problem with people owning assault rifles such as the AK-47. No reason to have one and spouting off the 2nd amendment doesn't hold water either.

why would a semi-auto AK be so scary to you?

Why do you get to choose?

Then you should find a hobby to replace the time you are needlessly worrying about what our President says

Let me explain something to you sport. The 2nd amendment has absolutely nothing to do with hunting or shooting, and everything to do with protecting YOU from a tyrannical government.

I just wish all of these traitors to the bill of rights and constitution would gird up their loins, and have the courage of their convictions and not send some mothers son or daughter to do their bidding, but come themselves, knock on the doors and demand these so called "assault weapons" I bet they would lose the stomach for it after the first house.

I'd prefer to think it's all of the above. This is an excerpt from Heller v DC regarding the 2nd Amend.

The prefatory clause does not suggest that preserving
the militia was the only reason Americans valued the
ancient right; most undoubtedly thought it even more
important for self-defense and hunting.

You might find the whole decision interesting reading.

"The strongest reason for the people to retain the right to keep and bear arms is, as a last resort, to protect themselves against tyranny in government"
Thomas Jefferson

I do not disagree with you hndog, but i get tired of folks sugar coating the 2nd amendment and caving to corrupt politicians by claiming "we want our guns so we can hunt and shoot", "take all the assault weapons" ect, ect, ect.

edit: thank you to the mod who deleted my previous post.

I know what you mean but I also don't like giving the antis some single monolithic target to try to take down. Hunting, general sporting use, self-defense and, of course, what you mentioned are ALL part of the 2A. There's no conceivable reason to me to think of it otherwise. I agree with your point if we're trying to make a hierarchy of it.

Democratic senators offer gun control amendment for cybersecurity bill - The Hill's Video

and now they're trying to sneak controls in wherever they can

Democratic senators have offered an amendment to the cybersecurity bill that would limit the purchase of high capacity gun magazines for some consumers.

The amendment was sponsored by Democratic Sens. Frank Lautenberg (N.J.), Barbara Boxer (Calif.), Jack Reed (R.I.), Bob Menendez (N.J.), Kirsten Gillibrand (N.Y.), Schumer and Dianne Feinstein (Calif.). S.A. 2575 would make it illegal to transfer or possess large capacity feeding devices such as gun magazines, belts, feed stripes and drums of more than 10 rounds of ammunition with the exception of .22 caliber rim fire ammunition.
