Has anyone done some sort of TRULY objective study on whether this presents a problem for the effecitveness of the military? If so, I'd consider it but right now I can't see why it would matter.

I think the only real objection could possibly be that it might create a negative climate in the armed forces or that moral could be affected.

the military has done several different studies on the matter and, shockingly, all have supported the military's exclusion policy.

I can say this much:

It doesn't affect the streamlined operations of the military as much as Joint Service environments do.

That goes for race, sex, orientation... doesn't matter. It honestly doesn't matter, from what I've seen. There are obviously going to be bad apples, but people are respected for who they are and what they do, not what they are.


EDIT:
After thinking about my post, and it's general premise, I am thinking about recanting in light of the circumstances. With a war going, many servicemembers (especially in the Marines/Army) are dealing with constant deployments or work-ups for deployment. That doesn't leave room to really be concerned with the private lives of your fellow Marines. If there was not a war going, and with many Marines being moved away from "casual floats" in peacetime perhaps the environment would differ. I can only say that because I only knew war during my service, so I can't speak for peacetime tempo.

fulfilling the law had nothing to do with condoning or continuing. If anything, he was saying he is the cessation of all the ritualistic laws of the old Jews.
