Young/Anderson/Hyatt

Yeah - he played a "bit" against South Carolina . . . 9 catches for 81 yards and 2 TDs.
I wish everyone could play a "bit" and have those stat lines!

The revisionist history in sports is f-ing hilarious. People will say whatever bs that enters their head as if it's the truth. The average joe gets a high ankle sprain and act like they're a hero for making it from the car to the Shoney's buffet line, but expects hurt players to go 100% every week.

And we got destroyed.... While losing our qb. What happen to mizzou and vandy ? He didnt want to play. Simple as that. He warmed up and went full go before the game. What say you chief ? I was there.

I understood the point, but it's wrong. If the MS couple opens a small business risking all their life savings of $50K, and the CT couple opens a business with life savings of $250K, who's risking more? If Hyatt is a 2nd-3rd rounder and Young a high 1st-round, they're both risking their entire stake. Risk is relative.

Your exactly correct. My contention was that if merely looking at total potential rookie deals in terms of dollars those two were taking an even higher risk. Doesn't change the fact that playing in any one game does not lessen or raise your risk of injury

My only argument in this whole thing has been and will continue to be is that you have different standards between Tillman and Hyatt. I understand why they are sitting out and I am not pissed off about it. Can't critique one without the other though, Tillman is able to play but wont risk his future. Same as Hyatt.

Not sure what that has to do with what we are talking about? Hooker got hurt running option and the defense gave up 63. Neither of which had anything to do with Tillman - who was catching 8 passes and 2 TDs.

I'm just saying I don't think you can call what Tillman did after his injury "quitting". The guy had ankle surgery in late September, yet came back to catch 20 more balls in the final month of the season. He didn't play against Mizzou because he warmed up and they didn't like him on a wet field. He was out for the Vandy game because he got dinged against South Carolina when he got pulled down from behind.

He had a tight rope procedure that is a 3-5 week recovery. Most professional guys are playing in week 3 or 4 with it based on what I have read. That all said its been a month since he played a game and another week until the orange bowl. You don't think in 5 weeks he "could" play effectively ? Yet you are all over Hyatt because he doesn't think it's in his best interest to play in the Orange Bowl. He has a whole lot of film and will likely be taken in the 1st rd after dropping a low 4.3 or possibly even a sub 4.3 at worst he likely slips into a 2nd round pick. He will not improve his stock by playing but could lose a lot. Tillman could be the opposite based on his lack of playing time.

Like I said before I am not upset with either of them for opting to put their future first. They have a chance that not many get. Setting themselves up for long term wealth is the smart thing to do and they have a ticking clock. I just believe people have to see it both ways.

Where is this coming from?? I havenā€™t posted anything critical of Hyatt. Iā€™m completely fine with him opting out if thatā€™s what he thinks is best for him.

Sorry I was referring to the general argument in which my original post was directed. I just took it as you agreed with many others that Hyatt should play because he owed it to the University. My apologies

No one expected Hooker's season to end at SC. Especially from a non-contact injury caused by him simply running. After years of games not being injured like that.
In a game where you purposely hit each other as hard and fast as you can, the next game is always potentially your last. The more games you play, the more of your luck you use up.

I'd like to see everyone play the bowl game, but understand if they don't and thank them for the hundreds of days they took the field in practice and games. We don't discard that dedication and risk they took every day - literally living and breathing UT football - over a non-playoff bowl game.

It's more than any fan has ever done.

I think Bryce Young and Will Anderson Jrs pro stock is good regardles. Jalin Hyatt had a phenomenal season but people still question with tough physical corners can he get job done and the questions if Heupel benefited more by Hyatts speed or Hyatt benefited more from Heupels system. His questions make it where if he has a poor game against Clemson like he was underwhelming against South Carolina after physical corner got him flustered and was essentially a non factor. Then of course worse than that the obvious. He gets injured so wont be able to showcase his speed on pro day or combines. Scouts may think if he even loses quarter of a second on his 40 time he will lose his biggest asset and drop. Young and Anderson even if injured are viewed as cant miss prospects so while sure injury can affect their stock. They wont free fall like Hyatt would because of the questions.

All I gotta say is that if I was an NFL GM it would matter to me. I think it says something about the player's view of the ole TEAM-me dynamic. That's always been my opinion and I'm not changing because it's one of our guys sitting out. IDGAF what anybody says this is a huge game for this program. We have not been to one of the original major bowls in 20+ years. That means alot to this fanbase and it should mean alot to this team, especially it's ostensible leaders. I bet Hendon Hooker would be playing if he was healthy.
But you are not an nfl GM and this is a business Jalin put everything he needed to on film and now itā€™s time for the backups to step up and show why they came to UTā€¦ we still have plenty of good players and this is their opportunity to step up and show they can contribute now and next yearā€¦ itā€™s a big game but in the grand scheme winning or losing this game does not affect the trajectory of our programā€¦ easy for you to sit here and criticize opt outs but if you were 22 and somebody told you that you could lose millions by playing in this bowl game then from a business standpoint it would make no sense to playā€¦ would I like to see hooker and ced and Jalin play absolutely but I wonā€™t feel any different about them because they chose to opt out a bowl gameā€¦ Iā€™m actually excited to see who steps up for us and what the team could potentially look like next year .

I imagine that view will be a tad less popular if we end this reinvigorating season by getting our poop pushed in New Year's Eve because our best players weren't on the field.

Plenty of reasons to play. Plenty of reasons to not play . . . but, yeah, the number of tortured takes on this subject is amazing lol.
Thatā€™s for dang sure. Iā€™m amazed people have spent weeks arguing about this. At the end of the day, the only opinions that count are the player and his family and thatā€™s it. Anything else is a waste of breath and typing.

How do you know ā€œTillman is able to playā€? Unless you are the team doctor or Tillman himself, you got nothing but idle speculation from a seat in the stands. I do agree that both are protecting themselves. One from the standpoint of being hobbled most of the season and not want to risk further injury. The other who is healthy and not wanting to risk injury and a drop in the draft. Either way, itā€™s their decision and nobody elseā€™s counts.

You know what these games are discounted from day one. At no point this year, my assumption, did any coach/player say let's win the Orange Bowl. That was never a team goal. The only bowls associated with team goals are the playoffs. And I doubt those are stated team goals. It's win the division and win the conference. So not a goal. It's why, despite what some clown is here think, no player or coach is mad at someone sitting out. To each their own.
According to that logic, why in the world did he play against Vandy? By that point, all team goals were gone. Makes no sense.

No disrespect to Jalin; heā€™s cemented his legacy and I wish him the best. That being said I donā€™t understand the opt out trend. Why is it suddenly acceptable to bail on your teammates during bowl season when it wasnā€™t acceptable to do so for generations prior?
Played their butts off to get the the 1st ny6 bowl in ages and... skips the reward. Just odd to me.

In this scenario it would mean that Jalin was not ready. Heath Shuler esque

I will get killed for this but I do think he could be better prepared if he could have improved the physical part and mental side when things didn't go well he tended to visibly show it bothered him. Again though it is near impossible to best this season. You take first round stock and run with it.

I don't blame him at all. I hope he gets with a team that can help him play "stronger" seems like when he got out-physicalled this year was the only time he was slowed down.
