He made his money during the Alabama game. He should have opted out of the rest of the season. No disrespect to Jalin; he’s cemented his legacy and I wish him the best. That being said I don’t understand the opt out trend. Why is it suddenly acceptable to bail on your teammates during bowl season when it wasn’t acceptable to do so for generations prior?
Well Damn Vince...now that's a powerful pep talk for any generation!!!!I suppose these tenants are trite and have no value any longer.

Hmmmm...... bowls are not worth risking unless you are playing for a national championship? Here are some questions:
How much money will Stetson Bennett make playing for a national championship? If he gets hurt, won't it cost him NFL millions as well such as has been pointed out here? Why should he risk it just for a trophy that (may) remain in Athens?
Should Vanderbilt even field a team? None of their games matter because they will never be playing for a NC.
If the goal is to go to the NFL and make millions, why not just go straight to the NFL out of High School, like so many kids do in the NBA?
If it is so dangerous to play, should parents even allow their children to participate in such a dangerous activity?
Again, all these players opting out is their right to do, but no one can convince me that quitting on your team because of risk of earnings is the right thing to do.
But I'm just a guy posting on a board.....
Spend three years of your life risking your body and brain health hundreds of days regardless of weather, literally living & breathing UT football, just so angry man-children masquerading as 'fans' can trash your character. For not risking the very opportunity the school recruited you with, in a post season game in which the program is probably better served by playing & developing your replacement, anyway.
Then you won't be just a guy on a board with no skin in the game.
This has nothing to do with what I posted, so I’ll ask again. Who made you grand arbiter of who is and isn’t a VFL?I suppose these tenants are trite and have no value any longer.

Well in that case just don't play NCAA at all.. Oh wait..."Michigan tight end Jake Butt suffered a torn ACL in the 2016 Orange Bowl. He slipped from a first-round projection to fifth-round pick.
Notre Dame linebacker Jaylon Smith suffered a significant knee injury in the 2016 Fiesta Bowl that cost him an estimated $20 million in first-round money. Smith was eventually drafted in the second but put on injured reserve by the Dallas Cowboys his rookie season. He later collected $700,000 cashing in on a loss of draft value insurance policy -- significantly short of that $20 million.
"It is unreal," said Ronnie Kaymore, CEO of New Jersey-based Kaymore Sports Risk Management and Consulting. "… It all stems from the Jaylon Smith scenario. The kid did collect on his insurance but he lost far more than what he was compensated for. I don't know what the schools do to rectify. At most schools, it's going to become a problem."
Taboo in the not-too-distant past, players opting out of bowl games has quickly become a trend
"But, but, just give them an insurance policy!!" says the narcissistic fan who blithely recommends risking the dollar for the dime, and vilifies them without end for not accepting this award-winning advice and having actual skin in the game.
The game is completely different now than it was in 1985. In the mid-80s, the national championship was important, but many viewed winning the SEC and going to the Sugar Bowl every bit as meaningful as a national title. That started to changed in the ‘90s thanks to the BCS. But the playoff has especially made it to where people view bowl games outside of the playoff as “meaningless.”This game doesn’t matter ? Why ? Because it’s not for the NC ? Tell that to the 85 Vols. Say what you want, but where is the line drawn ? Does this mean eventually guys gonna quit mid season after a stellar 1st half ?

You are absolutely correct. It is much too difficult for these players for all three years. The players are not smart enough to know what they are getting into when being recruited. They have been dooped. They should know that they don't love the game and their teammates. They should know that TEAM means T-elling E-verybody A-bout M-e
Character is doing what is right when no one is looking. How about when everyone is looking?
But obviously you believe that what you may earn has more value than character..... and you call me names? HAHAHAHA
Better than the "fan" who has no idea or has never been part of a team. "Quit now and worry about yourself"
Don't give all. Just care a little
Hooker didn't sit out a bowl game to preserve his draft status, but flat out quit his Hokie team. For himself, to paraphrase your objection. In fact, Heupel actively recruits quitters every year. Your argument is nonsense unless you want him to stop recruiting quitters.
What you want, regardless of what might be better for Hyatt, is for him to play and disregard the draft risk. You think it increases the chances of a TN win and you really don't care about the player. Instead of masquerading as a team guy, just care a little about the players.
Why not quit after the Bama game? He probably secured his draft status then. The draft risk was also there for UK, SC and Vandy
I'll always put the team b4 any individual player. Always.
Probably because the expectations are a regular season 12 game schedule, a conference championship if a division winner, and a CFP spot. I'd bet he plays with a CFP spot which is quite different that an elective bowl bid.
He didn't 'quit' during the season so why ask a pointless question? Again, why does this 'quitter' bother you but none of the other quitters on the team, nor those Heupel keeps recruiting?
The individual players are the team, guy. Just be honest; you'll always put your own desires before any player or the team. Always.
