Young/Anderson/Hyatt

I honestly don’t believe that team mates at the very least the Marjory of the players don’t believe that a guy with high potential to be drafted high and make that money is bailing or letting the team down. At least not todays time. All these kids dreams is to make it to the NFL and get their healthy at that. Kids put in the hard work the grind. Also, I’m sure it is discussed with Family and coaches. If opting out for a bowl game when he has already cemented their legacy. Let them enjoy their lives . Any more, players are retiring young as well these days. I’m 1000% percent for sure if it was the playoffs it would be different, and regardless who the QB is. Let the youngsters play and learn and make a name . This game is just glorified practice and makes rich guys and gals richer. Only thing I can see to change this, is if these kids getting great NIL deals , was given a bonus for playing in these bowls. Kind of how like NFL players earn more money reaching goals how contracts are structured . If that make sense . There will always be those two type of people who play the game. Those who don’t worry or don’t care with no fear and love the game and those whose dream is to play in the NFL and not get hurt. Either way , at the end of the day, I agree it’s their choice.
I hate it that he is not playing and if it was me I would play but with him seeing what happened to Tillman then Hooker I can't blame him it's his choice. He helped the team this year and I think he could play but if he is going to play cautious then best not play I guess.

What are your thoughts that Bryce Young and Will Anderson are opting to play in the Sugar Bowl, but Hyatt is opting out? It’s been exciting to watch the success we’ve had and then feel a bit disappointment when our star WR won’t be playing. Young and Anderson are projected top 5 picks. Are Young and Anderson crazy for playing one more time for their team? I’m thinking the unfortunate injury Tillman had this year had a factor in Hyatt’s opting out.

Nick Saban proud of lack of Sugar Bowl opt-outs, praises competitive spirit of Bryce Young, Will Anderson

I mentioned in another thread that I taught my kids that if they start something, they must finish it. They cannot quit on their teammate. I don't mind if a kid leaves after his junior year; he hadn't started the senior year yet. But "QUITTING" on your teammates in the bowl game is not something I believe in.

That being said, JH wrote a goodbye letter to the Vol Nation saying he is a Vol for Life. Sorry, JH, you are not. You decided to not be a Vol on December 30, 2022. Being a VFL is not a matter of convenience.

So you're comparing playing in the playoffs to playing in a regular bowl game. Geez

More of a VFL than you are I guarantee that....

So you’re the grand arbiter of who is and isn’t a VFL? Sorry, but when it comes to judging who qualifies as a “VFL” I’ll lean towards the guy who put in all the work to become a unanimous first team all-American and the programs first Biletnikoff winner.

I understand both sides; however, I believe that those who opt out should not be able to participate in bowl activities, get bowl swag and stand over on the sideline cheesing and giving interviews while their teammates are on the field giving their all. They can say they’re a VFL, these mah dogs, whatever, but they decided to not play, and the guys they sweated and bled with from the start of spring practice to this point are focused on winning as a team- defining the legacy as a team. I believe it’s a distraction and sends the wrong message. I also believe that having so many bowls muddies the water, as it would be very tempting for a draftable player to opt out of the “Jimmy Kimmel Bowl” (?), as opposed to a NY6 or even a storied bowl like the Gator Bowl. Just my .02

I think Bryce Young and Will Anderson Jrs pro stock is good regardles. Jalin Hyatt had a phenomenal season but people still question with tough physical corners can he get job done and the questions if Heupel benefited more by Hyatts speed or Hyatt benefited more from Heupels system. His questions make it where if he has a poor game against Clemson like he was underwhelming against South Carolina after physical corner got him flustered and was essentially a non factor. Then of course worse than that the obvious. He gets injured so wont be able to showcase his speed on pro day or combines. Scouts may think if he even loses quarter of a second on his 40 time he will lose his biggest asset and drop. Young and Anderson even if injured are viewed as cant miss prospects so while sure injury can affect their stock. They wont free fall like Hyatt would because of the questions.

Only thing I disagree with is that Bryce Young and Will Anderson do have just as much to lose as any other player decalring for the draft. A major injury stops the nfl future.

Hyatt had an amazing season and I’ll always be thankful for the memories but he quit on his team before the job was done. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion but it tarnishes his legacy in my eyes.

Not me. Not one of us would be ponying up to make up the difference in pay. No GM is going to make up draft position money because he was a "team player" until he blew his knee out in a meaningless bowl game. Look at how the Heisman joke treated Hooker for getting injured at the end of the year after putting up ridiculous stats. You wouldn't risk that money, and neither would I.

I disagree 1000% and I will guarantee when Hyatt looks back in 20 years; he will regret this decision.

The name of this thread could also be the name of a future law firm if they wanted to become attorneys.

I suppose these tenants are trite and have no value any longer.

“Once you learn to quit, it becomes a habit.” – Vince Lombardi

I firmly believe that any man’s finest hours – his greatest fulfillment of all that he holds dear – is that moment when he has worked his heart out in good cause and lies exhausted on the field with his teammates in battle – victorious.” – Vince Lombardi

What determines that? Who is more of a VFL ? A guy who played football for 3 years but paid nothing to go to school, a fan who has spent a small fortune going to games, maybe a former student who spent another small fortune, or a parent who cut corners to help their kids to attend UT

The "more of a VFL" thing is a weak ass take

I think 🤔 if you’re a football player you play football til the end of your team’s season. You have insurance on yourself if your a 1st 2 day draft pick. Obviously people have different opinions that’s ok I get it. I’m just always thinking the best way to prove your worth is playing real football not a combine. 😎👍

Judging from VL's last quote, he had some dubious priorities.

This game doesn’t matter ? Why ? Because it’s not for the NC ? Tell that to the 85 Vols. Say what you want, but where is the line drawn ? Does this mean eventually guys gonna quit mid season after a stellar 1st half ?

Everybody has a right to an opinion and yours isn’t any more relevant or superior to anyone else’s. Stop telling people to get over it and get over yourself. You are like a broken record.

Maybe. But you're opinion on whether Hyatt should risk millions of dollars to play 1 more meaningless game is irrelevant. Why bash on the kid? When you're in a position to risk millions of dollars and you still take it, maybe your opinion might be relevant.

Wisdom and the availability of data.

Too many pretend that the opportunity of wealth wouldnt change their current outlook on life. Almost none would risk being injured if it was going to cost them millions; ie life changing wealth.

This is why we celebrate the bravery of those who do.

This is true, if not people would not take out car Insurance or Home Insurance or life insurance. Why not just take the chance, well, statistics says it will bite some people, so people choose not to chance it. There is always a chance of getting hurt/damaged but playing a game with Concussions and ACL injuries are a part of the game makes those decisions easier. It changes from a game to a Business via NFL.
