Young/Anderson/Hyatt

Some folks feel like they own the dang restaurant because they eat there a lot. They don't. If the restaurant changes the menu or a chef leaves, you either adapt or go elsewhere.

There's no going elsewhere for me so I adapt.

Do I like it? No. Do I complain about it in public? Why? Does it help?

Does it help make the next chef stay or just make my experience worse?

You decide.

I don't complain about it in public either unless I am asked what my thoughts are. Once again, that what this thread is about. I guess you are the type of person that has to be right be matter? As if only your opinion matters.

I think the main reason why Anderson and Young are playing and Hyatt isn’t is because if Young or Anderson gets hurt their draft stock likely doesn’t change much if any at all. If Hyatt gets hurt (particularly a lower body injury) it definitely impacts his draft stock because of how much he relies on his speed, an injury could cost Hyatt millions whereas anything outside of paralysis likely won’t hurt Anderson and Young much

No. I'm just saying there's no joy in complaining about it. I dunno about you, I watch football for entertainment, not stress.

Nobody is complaining, everybody on here is giving their own thoughts. If i just brought up my opinion on the matter in a bunch of random threads, that is complaining. What I am saying is not a fact that you have to agree with, it is MY thoughts.

Agreed. I've gotten great entertainment value from watching Hyatt and Tillman. I was never in the position they are in to make that choice: opt out for the draft or play in a bowl.

I can't fault them nor even understand the ins and outs of that decision. It's actually above my pay grade and my NFL draft grade.

I'm just thankful I got to see the kids play.

I read a 2021 article about Matt Corral and praising him for not Opting out. Of course you know he got hurt.
Then fast forward to article seen after draft Matt Corral drops to 3rd round. Even though his film was viewed as the best by NFL Execs.
Other issues conveniently popped up trying to discredit the Bowl injury.
IMO this is in the mind of a lot of top players as they think about their profession and family.

And Corral got hurt this year with another lower leg injury and missed the whole year.

It’s insane that these people don’t understand it. Jalin Hyatt can stand to make $14M guaranteed if he gets drafted in the first round. He’s one bad cut away from losing MILLIONS. How could you watch Hendon, who went from being late first/early second to now probably a day 3 pick after his ACL tear and actually have the selfish audacity to criticize these guys? It’s like you people have never made a decision for your betterment ever.

I don’t disagree….I just can’t figure out why the Orange bowl is such a huge injury risk but Vandy wasn’t.

Well Hyatt isn’t hurt or dealing with an injury (Tillman). It’s a regular season game, not a bowl game (which are glorified exhibitions). And while I find bowls highly overrated in terms of what it actually means for a program, I do find it beneficial to get a NY6 bowl. So I think it’s a fair expectation for him to play. And he only played like what, 20 snaps?

Agree with every bit of this 100%

Which is why it makes sense for Tillman to skip a game and get healthy. Hyatt being afraid of being injured in December but not November is a head scratcher tho.

Had this been the Liberty bowl it makes even more sense….but this is absolutely an opportunity to raise your stock.

I think sometimes we forget these guys get a ton on information through Tennessee and agents. They aren’t making these decisions blindly. There’s probably a reason Hyatt opted out and Wright didn’t despite being in the same range. If an agent or Tennessee is saying “Hey Jalin, we’ve talked with multiple pro personnel and there’s nothing you can do in the bowl game that will improve your stock.”

And I can buy that too….what was he going to do against Vandy that was going to improve his stock? I understand why they make the decisions, just seems there’s not a ton of consistency in the reasoning is fear of injury.

Hyatt is getting drafted early because of his elite speed. That’s reason enough to want to avoid contact.

What are your thoughts that Bryce Young and Will Anderson are opting to play in the Sugar Bowl, but Hyatt is opting out? It’s been exciting to watch the success we’ve had and then feel a bit disappointment when our star WR won’t be playing. Young and Anderson are projected top 5 picks. Are Young and Anderson crazy for playing one more time for their team? I’m thinking the unfortunate injury Tillman had this year had a factor in Hyatt’s opting out.

Hyattis still recovering from his ankle sprain when he stepped on the back judge’s foot just off the playing field. He likely had a season which would be difficult for him to repeat. To me, there is no question he made the correct decision. I am sure he would liked to have another 40 receiving yards to break the season record, but it means millions of $$$ and we still have receivers sho will catch a bunch of balls if they are throw within reach of them. Of course, we will have to see if Milton is really ready for prime time with his throws. Maybe, Hyatt knows more about that than we do.

Hyatt maybe, Tillman needs to heal IMO. He never looked the same after being injured.

Speaking of games that mean nothing…. Orange Bowl means a lot more than Playing UT Martin or Akron 🤷🏻‍♂️

Really??? A loss to UT Martin or Akron means no Orange Bowl. A loss in the Orange Bowl means??? The possibility that some uncommitted recruit will not choose UT-and they should be smart enough to realize Hooker, Tillman, and Hyatt aren’t playing.

So basically from some of these posts it sounds like they want Hyatt to risk millions because it may have an effect of a recruit or two that haven’t committed yet which may affect out enjoyment in the future.

Maybe that’s the problem with our generation, they haven’t been taught to honor the commitments we make, what is the value of your word? integrity has high value in the big picture of life and as someone who is not loaded, money can’t buy you everything but in the end the only thing that matters is how and what people remember you for while here.

Big rabbit hole I'll just walk around instead of diving in. I've long shared your views.

Integrity and college football aren't really married to one another.

The difference in Young/Anderson playing vs Hyatt opting out is their coaches. You have one coach that had a very disappointing season and is selfish. You have our coach who has sat down with his players and advised them as if it was his own child. No one within the program is upset about the opt outs. NO ONE. It is only fans that are. There is nothing that Hyatt could do in the bowl game that would increase his draft stock. Playing could hurt it though. NFL GMs don't care if kids opt out of bowl games. An extra 3 weeks of preparation for the combine can make a world of difference in your draft stock. It can take you from fringe 1st rounder to a top 20 pick.

Hmmm....

It's also because they want their team to win. A lady from West Virginia works for our business. She mentions their win in the Sugar over Georgia at least once a month. How long ago was that? 15 years of something? The fear of fans is that their team will lose because of the decisions of a few individuals. Nobody sat out of that Sugar for Georgia, but a whole lot played that didn't want to be there. You might be better off without those guys and not realize it.

Heupel didn't advise his players to skip the game. That's just silly talk.

We can beat Akron with backups….Clemson??

Football is dangerous, there will always be injuries and risk. If injury is a concern why play against Vandy a month ago?

I keep seeing “enjoyment” when in reality the word is success. A programs success depends on individuals working together. That isn’t anything new.

UGA had a few “opt outs” a few years ago in the Sugar and they got smoked by an inferior Texas team. I was there, it was ugly….

Some of these guys have played for a decade and a half and never had a major injury…..but this next game is the one to be worried about. Injuries only happen in December when you are a draft pick. Not against Vandy…

that's apples<oranges. If Jalin plays and gets hurt or looks really bad it hurts his stock. Young and Anderson are such high picks that even if they get hurt they still go first round. Lets say Jalin plays and balls out he is still not even guaranteed a first-rounder. He has one good year of tape and is a type of player only certain teams are even looking for. Those 2 have very little to lose and Jalin has nothing to gain. Its a bad business decision for all of them to play in the bowl game TBH.
