Your feelings on Dabo?

I was under the impression Stoops was pushed out because they did not want Lincoln Riley to get a HC position somewhere else.
Stoops was 100% not pushed out. You don't push a coach out in June barring some kind of scandal.

He did face some chirping from people in the late 2000s/early 2010s and after the 2014 season (when he fired Heupel), but Oklahoma finished top 5 with a CFP appearance in the 2 seasons before he retired.

He didn't want to coach big time college football in his 60's after his dad died coaching HS on the field and saw where college football was heading. Completely his decision

Yep. Pretty smart guy.

You have to be such a meathead competitor to reach those kinds of levels to begin with, so it isn't in many of their natures to step away like he did. He made generational money, won a title, is a HOFer, and stepped away at an early retirement age. Not bad.

I wonder if Saban, as time goes on, will regret not retiring earlier. He had the sense to step away when he's still healthy/able-bodied/able to enjoy life, but he worked until he turned 72.

Clemson needs to go into a nosedive so that Tennessee can pull more recruits out of the state of South Carolina.
I don’t think Dabo needs to win Saturday vs UGA, but I think Clemson really really needs to not get completely outclassed. Worst case scenario is this needs to be a 4 quarter game where UGA pulls away late. If it’s a blowout, it will be a huge blow to the program that was winning titles and beating Bama not all that long ago. It was signify that they are no longer an elite program and they are unwilling to adapt to the new era of college football w/ Dabo at the helm.

also puts a really big question mark over the ACC.

It definitely does, but I’ll feel much better after we get out of Charlotte with a W. All the ACC talking heads like Wes Durham and local radio guys around here are talking about how State has been talking about Tennessee all summer like it’s their biggest challenge or how it’s like the Clemson or FSU game. It’s going to be a tough game.

The ACC guys are even try to grasp on to Notre Dame getting a win in College Station as a potential plus for the conference, which I find to be incredibly sad.

I think NCST keeps it close for a half, maybe even has a slight lead with a last second field goal. but then the Vols make some adjustments and we just wear them out in the 3rd and 4th.

I think it will be close for a while. Their D coordinator is going to throw the kitchen sink at Nico. Gibson is a good coordinator who is known for a lot of exotic looks and I don’t expect anything less than some crazy looks. Hopefully, the headset in Nico’s ear will allow Heupel and Halzle to get him in the right calls.

It will be a nice game of cat and mouse I think. The headsets are supposed to cut off once the play clock is down to 15 seconds. I am not sure when they are turned back on, is it when the previous play is blown dead? When the ball is set and play clock starts?

depending on what the sequencing is I could see it impacting our playstyle a bit. typically we are lined up and ready to snap when the ball is set, so if the headset isn't on until then, I don't see it being a lot of help.

but if you are an offense that uses the full play clock I think there is a lot of games you can play with it.

If we hadn't hired Butch, would Dabo be the successful Dabo we have come to...hate?
Success started when Kiffin basically gifted Boyd to them and then Dooley messed up recruiting enough for Clemson to be the better choice. Butch fine tuned the culture where Lawrence and Etienne didn’t want to sign up and the rest is history.

I think when we look back, it’s possible we see Hendon Hooker the same way Clemson sees Boyd. He started the ascent and help build the culture of winning. W/o either guy, the programs wouldn’t have been nearly as successful.

Especially given that they opened with a horrible season-opening loss to Duke last year.

The pace that we run at could be an even bigger advantage than normal. They won't be able to sub personnel, won't have as much time to dial something up that is different than what they did on the previous play, etc.

The crazy thing about that game, other than the really bad turnovers was that they didn’t out-athlete Duke. Duke was able to run w/ them, push them around some and out scheme them. That’s not supposed to happen. Ever. Also, part of the reason why I think Texas A&M finally got the hire right.

I agree completely. If we move the sticks early and often and play our style we can run them out of BOA. I’ve made the comparison more than a few times that Dave Doeren is pretty much Mark Stoops w/ an easier schedule . It could be a game like 2021 vs UK where they have the ball for 48 minutes and lose or it could be like 2022 where we set the tone and the game is over by halftime. People have been overly using the phrase “this is their Super Bowl” a lot lately, the more I hear local radio talk about NC State and how they view this game… this is State’s Super Bowl. They want this game bad .
