Where’s that? I’m not going back to Seaside of Watercolor again.

Cafe Thirty-A(30a)

It's 4 minutes east of Watercolor/Seaside. It has it's own parking lot and is right off 30A, no fuss.

Hemingway’s Cuba (downtown Asheville.) Rooftop dining and bar on a perfect evening with endless visibility. Beef empanadas, yuca fries, and fried plantain chips for starters.

I had vaca frita, wow. wowwowwowwowwow. Rest of the group had ropa vieja, Cuban sandwich, and masas de cerdo fritas (basically fried chunks of pork, although that doesn’t do it justice). Also wow.

Had to travel to Johns Creek, GA for my annual biometric screening. I budgeted for travel time and a half-hour at the testing facility. They had me in and out in ~10 minutes. I decided to eat at Bukaraa Indian Restaurant. Their lunch buffet was good. The palak paneer was sneeky spicy, the Baag E Bahar and the Channa Peshwari were richly flavorful, and the naan was served fresh from the oven.

Wife and I had breakfast a a Flying Biscuit Cafe. She had the Clifton Omelet - goat cheese & mushrooms. I had the smoked salmon scramble - smoked salmon bits, creme cheese & fresh dill. Good food and good service.

The original restaurant is in the Candler Park neighborhood of Atlanta, GA. Franchising has spread other locations across six states. None are in Tennessee, yet.

Just did Old Gilman Grill in Chattanooga after Chappelle. Loved it. Manager is from Maryville and knows his stuff. Great atmosphere. The West Village area is very hip.

Our weekly eat out choice this week was a new express Japanese place for lunch today. Probably some of the best hibachi chicken and steak I've had - fantastic flavor and cooked to perfection! Kevin had teriyaki chicken, also good.

Also in West TN...Jack's Creek BBQ. In Jacks Creek. Which may still only be a rural intersection. On Hwy 1oo east of Henderson. (And Brooksie's Barn in Jackson, if still around).
I grew up in Henderson. I was probably a teenager before I realized there was other BBQ besides Jacks Creek BBQ.

No kidding?! I was a Freedie from 83-85, nd again in 87 for senior year. spent 2.5 years there total and 2 at ACU. Jacks Creek was the only BBQ I ate in my time there except for 2 trips to Brooksie's Barn. My memory fails me on the name of the joint, but that drive in on the left going from FH to downtown that had such good burgers got a lot of our business. And Perrigo's. And the Truck Stop. I also had a lot of Chester's Chicken down at the gas station on the corner. I got a kick out of the advancements Henderson made in my 2 year trek to ACU. came back and they took out one or two traffic lights and put in 4-ways.

Can't remember when he graduated. Some time after me. But, a guy from FH opened the Martin's BBQ Joint restaurants around Nashville. He was a dedicated patron of Jack's Creek and patterned his whole hog and Jack's sauce offerings after Jack's Creek. Martin's is legit if your ever around Nashville and want some Jack's creek style BBQ. Everything he serves is legit. Pulled Pork, Whole Hog, Sausage, Chicken, Brisket, Wings, Turkey. Sides are great too.

I'm the only person in my family that did not go to Freed.

Chow Wagon? Bell's? Man, I still think that gas station had some of the best fried chicken I have ever eaten.

I was a townie that lived close enough to FHU that when we would get enough snow, my friends and I would go to the tennis courts to sled down that hill.

I am a bit younger than you (CCHS class of '90) so it is possible that you crossed paths with a younger me. My older brother went to FHU in '83 and played baseball, but ended up going to UT-Martin and then Knoxville to get away from home. I went straight to Knoxville.

I laugh and tell people that I grew up in a one red light town.

Bell's was good, but I'm pretty sure it was Chow wagon. I probably know your brother. Name? I tried to walk on at FH in Fall of 83. Your bother probably played with Kevin Hedden, Van Kalnesian, Cooter Dennis, and all them. But between grades and blowing out my rotator my sophomore year, it didn't go well. thought I was going to make it my Freshman year, but I didn't have a clue how to study. I'm sure you know the Fulkerson's. hung out with Greg some. Todd is the reason my little finger is still crooked playing those Sunday night club football games. someone went to hospital every week.

And did you ever go to our haunted houses in that old white house across from campus on main street. I was always in the last room. Opposite of the headless guy coming out of the tub. The big Basketball center was Jason with the chainsaw coming in the back door to herd everyone out.

In 1983 it was a 2 red light and one 4-way town. in 1987, it was a one red light and two 4-way town. You can spin that however it works. LOL.

This is going to sound made up, but it is absolutely true. One year that I went to that haunted house, Jason with the chainsaw freaked out everyone in my group so bad that I got knocked down and banged my knee pretty good. I had to wear a leg brace for a little while. I may have been too young for that to have been in your day though.

My brother is John Harris. Our dad was a State Trooper in town. I'm trying to think of other guys his age who went to FHU that you might know, but I am drawing a blank.

Was Greg Fulkerson the same one that started the band and filmed a video in town? I rode around town all night trying to be in that video. lol

I remember Todd by name, but he was a few years older than me. He probably knew my brother though. Edit: I just did a little Facebook stalking of Todd. We have a lot of mutual friends. Have you kept up with him? He works at Disney and has won an oscar for animation!

Sorry to derail the thread going down memory lane. So, back on topic...my son just turned 15 and for his birthday asked to go to a hibachi place close to where we live called Lava Grill. Hibachi is delicious, if a bit over priced.

Yeah. Same Greg. Best guitarist bar none I’ve ever heard. I was sitting in his room watching him shred Eddie Van Halen with one finger in a cast. Band got passed over for Twisted Sister instead by MCA. Bass player still does local bands around Nashville. Has pics of him and the old drummer jamming with Bon Jovi.
never kept up with Todd. He was a couple years younger. Extremely talented family in arts and music and such. Todd pretty good football player too at CC.
in83 I was a freshman. Brothers name sounds familiar. But I’d have to hit up Facebook and find a pic. There was a big black local that graduated and went TSP. He has a nice appointment in Nashville now. Tony Barham. We were at odds till I stood up to him. Jimmy Dyson was my first roommate. The chainsaw guy was my roommate. What sounds even weirder is I remember a guy getting hurt in there. That was the only Halloween he was chainsaw guy. I had the axe.
