Sorry to derail the thread going down memory lane. So, back on topic...my son just turned 15 and for his birthday asked to go to a hibachi place close to where we live called Lava Grill. Hibachi is delicious, if a bit over priced.
Knoxville? My grandparents lived there. Love good times deli.stiil know the preacher at laurel church of Christ.

Yeah. Same Greg. Best guitarist bar none I’ve ever heard. I was sitting in his room watching him shred Eddie Van Halen with one finger in a cast. Band got passed over for Twisted Sister instead by MCA. Bass player still does local bands around Nashville. Has pics of him and the old drummer jamming with Bon Jovi.
never kept up with Todd. He was a couple years younger. Extremely talented family in arts and music and such. Todd pretty good football player too at CC.
in83 I was a freshman. Brothers name sounds familiar. But I’d have to hit up Facebook and find a pic. There was a big black local that graduated and went TSP. He has a nice appointment in Nashville now. Tony Barham. We were at odds till I stood up to him. Jimmy Dyson was my first roommate. The chainsaw guy was my roommate. What sounds even weirder is I remember a guy getting hurt in there. That was the only Halloween he was chainsaw guy. I had the axe.
I know Tony well. My dad was still a State Trooper when Tony got started. He and my brother were friends in High School. He has done well in the THP.

No. DFW, TX is pretty much home now. I moved here right out of college and bounced back and forth between TN and here. My wife and I finally made the move final and we have been here since '06. Roots here have gotten pretty deep.

But yes, the Good Times Deli (Gus's) was a college staple.

I ate at Kayne Prime In Nashville last weekend. Most overrated overpriced meal I’ve had in my life. The wife and I shared the wagyu ribeye and it was very basic but two of the three toppings at least added some flavor. The other couple with us didn’t enjoy their steaks either. The sides were a la carte but definitely better than our entrees.

Some parts of close in West ATL are gentrifying, others are being redeveloped into $500k+ cluster homes. Still others are the new multi-cultural Gen-Z cool spots with hip spaces in old buildings and fast climbing rents.

What about the Bluff and English Ave??

I'm the only person in my family that did not go to Freed.

Had some close friends in AL. All three of them and myself went to Freed. They were told they could go to college anywhere they chose. But only Freed was getting paid for

Mixed with some redevelopment. One can still find aged homes for apx $100k. Stuck into the midst are small groups of townhouses for &400k.

I was thinking about getting thru there safely. Had a rental on English one time. Had to stop and pick up a rep to go in there.

Had to travel to Johns Creek, GA for my annual biometric screening. I budgeted for travel time and a half-hour at the testing facility. They had me in and out in ~10 minutes. I decided to eat at Bukaraa Indian Restaurant. Their lunch buffet was good. The palak paneer was sneeky spicy, the Baag E Bahar and the Channa Peshwari were richly flavorful, and the naan was served fresh from the oven.

We have two really good local indian joints. I love curry's, but some of them are just plains hot. I get the mild and it is pretty spicy. I've never ordered "indian hot," My wife loves the Shrimp Korma. great dish. I like the goat curry and fish curry best. Chicken Kadai was good. I've had a paneer dish before which I think is the cheese cubes. It was good. Also like the samosa,

The only upscale dinner we've been out to in Nashville since moving up is at Margot Café. Worth every penny.

Whole hog, hung chickens... even live music. Martin's is must visit at the Music City Food & Wine Festival.

Martin's is good but there are a dozen BBQ places in the Memphis area that are better than Martin's (judging based on downtown Nashville location)....

Nash Vegas ain't Memphis, brother. The 'Ville has tourist traps and hipster joints braggin' on their nightly music and high falutin mac 'n' cheese. At least Martin's is all about smoked meat, whole hogs and whole birds. I've not been to the downtown location, just Belmont and Mt. Juliet.

I've only been to Mt. Juliet. Last time there was smoking us all out. He has a huge flat bed brick smoker next to the bar. Not sure what he had going as he has the commercial smokers in the kitchen as well. The original location is in Nolensville. Peg Leg Porker has been on Triple D, but haven't been. Most places don't do good chicken. Martin's hits homeruns on his chickens.

Memphis would beat most towns out for BBQ joints. And West TN in general would. Middle and especially East TN are lacking except for a few decent joints here and there. I could probably make a killing in Cookeville if I was willing at this point in my life to pursue opening a proper joint. This town is severely lacking. When Whitt's chain is one of the better options... My son can do as good a ribs as you'll get anywhere. He can nail them using my barrel or his watt burner. He's 17. Bought his own smoker with all his xmas money. He made some kind of marinade for salmon last week and basted it and smoked it with maple chips, had soy sauce and sorgham molasses and not sure what else. Mind blowing salmon that day.

During the politically incorrect '70s, Peabody College's Phi Mu Alpha brothers called Nolensville, "Patch," it being between the I24 and I65 "V." Boys-not-yet-men...:)

Serious question: why would an otherwise-nicer restaurant NOT offer reservations and online booking in 2020? Lakeside Tavern does 30 minute call-ahead, but you still might have a 30-60 minute wait. With kids, that certainly doesn't enhance your dining experience.

Lakeside Tavern has always had some strange rules. If I'm not mistaken they are also the restaurant that won't sit you until most of your party is there. The only other restaurant I know of in Knoxville that does that is Wasabi's but they do that for very specific reasons. I was once charged like a dollar or two extra at Lakeside because I ordered a shot of whiskey rather than getting it in a mixed drink, I was appalled.

They also told me an hour to 1:15 wait when I called ahead. We arrived 40 minutes later and the hostess gave me trouble because apparently they have a "30 minute" call-ahead policy. This was not explained on the phone, and I let her know. A manager soon after came and apologized for the way I was treated, which was nice. I just don't get why I should have to sit with three kids in a lobby for 45 minutes just to eat in their restaurant. Their food isn't worth it.

I'm surprised a manager visit was even on their list. They're buried deep in the Farragut community, they're on a hill overlooking the lake and marina so no only do they think they're all that but they quickly forget they are still part of a larger company, Diverse Concepts. Not for nothing but you can get the same food at Parkside Grill for a lot less hassle.

I know some restaurants that do that, but what is the point of call ahead seating, because even when you do, you have to wait. Then it just causes confusion and angry moments from the start with your customer's experience because most people want to treat it like reservations where you call ahead and get to come right in and be seated.

The wife and I took my sister and brother in law to dinner at Fish Tails in Richmond Hill. It's a casual dockside place. We were seated on the large screened porch now enclosed with fastened heavy plastic panels. I had crab cakes. Wife & sis had mixed seafood au gratin. Brother in law had fired shrimp & scallops.
