Had lunch at Big River. Ordered the same thing I've had the last couple times we were there....Brewery Nachos. I ask for them to put all the topping on a bed of shredded lettuce instead of chips. Ususally they question it, but she didn't bat an eye. Must've become a common request.

My dad had cholesterol issues that started when I was in high school and pizza night was on Friday nights for the fam. We'd order a pizza without cheese and they'd be like did I just hear you right?? 😄

Breakfast at The Omlette Cafe in Richmond Hill, GA. I had country fried steak, hash browns, 2 eggs over easy, and rye toast. Tasty indulgence.

Outside Augusta?? Ever eat at Rhinehart's Oyster Bar?? They have two. The one closest to downtown is better than the one out in Evans. That place is a dive and is fantastic. I would go on Tuesday nights when I worked there. It was one of the specials nights. I'd eat 6 raw oysters, 4 dozen big shrimp, sides, and a beer for like $14 plus tip. that was the first place I bowed up and ate raw oysters. Loved them any other way, but had not done raw. They would get shucked and rinsed right behind the bar and put on your plate.

Carraba's has to be the best chain Italian around. Macaroni Grill a very tight 2nd (best ribeye around). Best thing I've had a Carraba's is the bacon wrapped tenderloin medallions with the port and fig reduction sauce. And that huge bowl of mussels you get during happy hour for half price. Best soup in a long time was their sausage and lentil. they have different nightly specials. I think it was a Monday or Tuesday deal where you get a smaller entrée with a choice of app or soup and dessert or something like that. you can choose from 3 price points with 3 entrees in each price. So I got a boat load of food and a large glass of wine for the small price cause it was happy hour and paid less than $20 without tip. Thursday is pizza special night. It was good too. But, always go during happy hour. larger wine servings and half priced apps.

Had lunch yesterday at the Jerk Hut on Fowler in Tampa. The food was great. I had the jerk chicken lunch (smaller portion than shown below) but plenty for me. Service was a little slow but very friendly. If you are driving up I-275 from downtown Tampa, just get off at Fowler Avenue, turn east and you are there within 1/2 mile. So, very easy to get to.

I've not eaten at Rhineharts, but I do have cousins in Evans. Next time I'm in their neck of the woods, I'll try to talk them into accompanying me to the downtown location.

Tampa area ?? Look up Smoking Guns BBQ. It's a truck. No building. Good friend of mine from way back. May stick more to the coastal side around Largo area. He'll put out on FB what he has and where he's parking.

Thanks. Will check them out.

whats that in the pie pan ? cornbread ?
Yes cornbread, they served it with honey. We just finished the last of it last night, it was so dang good!

AS good as that plate looks, I'm drooling over that little cornbread skillet. Where is this joint??

The cornbread skillet is only served Friday and Saturdays. It is my favorite BBQ joint in the area. It's so nice to see that they have done so well, gone from one location to now I think 4 in the area, with one in Columbia, SC too. There are a couple new BBQ places that look amazing as well, but we are waiting for the newness and kinks to die down before going to those.

Ah. South Carolina. Ya'll are blessed with many proper BBQ joints, and sauces.

The 4 main locations are here where I am in Charlotte, NC. But yes, the Carolinas have some great BBQ spots - I'm amazed at how many have opened up in Charleston, SC recently. I am still thinking about our trip to Missouri in November...mmm..

I have always found Middle and east Tn strange for BBQ. Have a good place here and there but not abundant. Even so for Nashville. Small handful of proper ones. West TN, Carolinas, GA, AL, MS, even FL seem to be abundant with really good competitive BBQ joints. Cookeville is enemic, but not a time in my life to consider a go at one the way I think they should be. But, they can be economical to run once up and going. Keep the sides controlled, but on point. Offer maybe 4 meats done right. Gotta do pulled pork, brisket, ribs, chicken, sausage.

Southern Pit in Griffin, GA ( 'bout 30 min south of ATL Airport) is really good. Cracklin corn bread. $10 lunch plate in the 90's that had a heaping hand full of pork, 4 baby backs, corn bread, slaw and something else. They also smoke seasonal meats such as whole hams, turkeys, ducks, and pheasant.

I am partial to West TN BBQ because that is where I am from, but I love me some Carolina Q.

My brother, who now lives in Northern California, pigs (no pun) out for a week or so on our BBQ when he comes back home to visit W.TN. He & his wife cannot get the type of great southern comfort food (catfish, chicken, beef stew, ribs, etc.) where they live. We have food buffets all over the place here in Jackson......I've learned to stay away as much as possible from all you can eat buffets. I might go once a year to celebrate birthdays or other family get togethers.

Agree that you tend to like what you have grown accustomed to, especially as a child.
I grew up in East Tennessee, and didn't eat a lot of bbq. I much prefer West Tennessee bbq to any other I've eaten.

I don't go to bbq restaurants near Nashville except with my son-in-law for lunch. I think I've been to most except Martins. There is just no comparison to the Memphis, nw Tn bbq. Just personal taste.

Best catfish I've eaten is at Boyettes (sp) near Reelfoot Lake.
