Your Memphis Grizzlies Basketball Thread III

Absolutely.

I guess i'm more pissed about it because i played and have had the same thing happen to me. Players will never use it as an excuse, but it annoys the hell out of em' when refs (or anyone) mess up the flow of a situation.

All KD has to do what step back take a deep breath and start his routine over. The miss is on him, not JC. Zbo sent the ball back multiple times at the line last night to start his routine over.

You talking about the same Joey Crawford who overruled another official to give the ball to OKC, then reviewed it himself only to determine he was right all along when the video evidence showed otherwise?

That Joey Crawford?

Which one are you talking about? There were several reviewed OOB plays in the final minutes, and I thought they got them all right.

Joerger is going to have to go small earlier when they have a big lead. There is literally zero to be gained when you are up 20, and they bring in Caron Butler for Perkins, and Zach Randolph is guarding him. Put in Tayshaun and do not give them any chance for momentum with their spacing the floor.

I thought he was going to do that when he took out Marc in the 3rd... but then he brought in Kosta. That's my only complaint on Joerger this series. Every run has started when they go small, and we don't want to budge up 20. It's a perfect time to get a big some rest, and allows you to matchup and get stops and stay ih their head.

Taking Conley out for 8 mins seriously pissed me off. I was losing it at the end of the 3rd.

Yep. Should've went with Conley, Miller, Allen, Tayshaun, and Gasol. The matchups on the defensive end would've been favorable and just enough spacing offensively on the other end. I understand not wanting the Thunder to dictate your lineup, but you are up 20. They are struggling shooting the ball. The last thing they need is great spacing and open looks.

Conley is playing 40+ minutes a night and people are pissed when he's taken out? How much can you ask of him?

Managing Conley's minutes is one of the most important facets of this series.

Usually he manages Conley well. Last night, Conley "only" got 38. Thought he mismanaged that third quarter by inserting Kosta rather than going small when up I believe it was 14 (might've been 12). I'd rather Conley playing 40+ than Randolph playing 42 and Gasol 47. Have to think that Gasol was so out of it at times last night because of all the minutes he played in game 4.

Gasol was out of it from the jump ball. He is timid. He is passive. He is soft.

Conley is chasing Russ and Reggie Jackson and being hounded foul court and trapped off nearly every screen. We lost G4 due in large part to him being completely out of gas. He spends the entire 4Q out of gas nearly every game.

Dave did well limiting his minute to "just" 38 last night.

Defensive rebounds would have made the game a lot easier. Thunder are going to go on runs, they are going to make shots. No need to ***** and moan and call for a change of some sort every time they do.

I agree the bigs are logging serious, serious minutes.. But they also don't run the team and don't have to do much of anything on defense the whole time Perkins is in.

Agree with you on Gasol, too soft. And I agree we should not dictate our lineup to theirs, but it's situational. 3 times when down double digit they have went small and come back. Get Randolph/Gasol and go small. The shots they were making in the third were not contested like they had been in the 2nd qtr and the first half of the third quarter, they were uncontested looks.

You've got to take advantage of a team that is cold with a constant hand in their face. Sticking Kosta in instead of going small was a bad move. If you are going to go big, you need someone who is going to take advantage of a smaller defender on you. Neither Marc and especially not Kosta are that guy right now so you are not taking advantage of it on the offensive end while being exploited on the defensive end. You can't just say the Thunder made shots... they made open shots. Caron got them going because of the breakdowns of two bigs in the game.

Fair points. If Marc is going to allow durant to guard him, then he can't be on the floor. That's an impossible matchup for us on the other end. I don't like going small. Our small isn't as good as their small. Hard to judge how Ed and Kosta have been in the series given how sporadic and short their playing time has been. Kosta took it too durant a little bit when KD was on him in G3 (I believe) as the thunder went small.

He and Marc are both too soft though, no question. I think there were some missed rotations and overhelps on drives that resulted in those open looks. Also transition and long rebound scramble situations.

Rebounding killed us. Guards can't let that happen in Game 6. Just not sure what was going on with Marc last night. It was obvious in the 1st quarter that he didn't want to look for his own shot... after dominating the first half last game. For a stretch at the end of the 3rd and the 4th, he was useless on both ends. Brevin was calling him out all 2nd half.

I don't like going small either in general, but situationally the last three games have called for it due to us not exploiting them on the offensive end. One thing I really like about Joerger is that he adjusts a heckuva lot better than Hollins. Putting Lee on Wesbtrook after realizing Conley could not guard him, allowing the switch on the screen and roll between Durant and Westbrook in game 3, etc.. He adapts.

Thunder fans hate Brooks for several reasons, but I loved when he failed to utilize Jackson when Miller was guarding him in the 4th and OT. Just an absolutely boneheaded move.

Occasionally, Marc takes the initiative and takes over. G4 Clippers last year and G4 Thunder this year. And at other times, he's timid, soft, and not selfish enough. He tries too hard to be a good teammate, but there's times when we can really use an aggressive Gasol. He's still not as soft as Pau, but last night, we saw shades of his brother.

I don't know why but watching the grizzlies make me more nervous than any other team I love outside of UT football.

It's crazy how gut wrenching this series has been Lol.

Admittedly small sample size but the facts are the facts :)
