Your Memphis Grizzlies Basketball Thread III

It just feels like the team has regressed, which shouldn’t happen as the young team is gaining experience.

What kind of roster turnover are you thinking?
I think something that’s really important to differentiate here that doesn’t get press is there’s a huge difference in gaining experience and learning how to win.

They can get all of the experience they want but if they don’t do something different in a hurry all they’re going to be is older losers.

The Ziaire thing is a huge swing and miss that’s severely limiting this team.

Roddy, Laravia, etc. get some print and it’s easy to clown on those guys but at those draft spots, that’s just poor asset management. The Ziaire thing is crushing.

I kept watching them last night and thinking “man would Mikal Bridges be the perfect wing for that team.”

I think everyone on the roster, with the exception of Ja, JJJ, and Bane, is fair game this off-season.

The 4 draft picks offered for Bridges reported by several journalists gives hope that Kleiman will be aggressive this summer.

It’s obvious that Dillon is gone. Whether it’s simply letting him walk or via S&T, he has 1-2 games left in a Grizz uniform. An upgrade at the 3 is a must, if the Grizz want to elevate themselves to WCF/NBA finals contender status. It may not be the upgrade most are thinking of (OG, Mikal, Jaylen). But at this point; any suitable starter other than Brooks is an improvement. Even a stable veteran like Derozan wouldn’t be a bad idea to explore.

Roddy, Z, nor Konchar should be in contention to start next year. All should fight for reserve minutes.

Clarke isn’t returning next year, and if he is, it’ll be after the ASB at the earliest. So the assumption is Tillman is probably resigned with a favorable contract for depth behind JJJ and Steve.

Things are bad when me and you agree as much as we have recently...

He's the starting piece everybody is missing. He's a near perfect guy to plug into any good team. Healthy C's and Clippers are the only ones who don't need him, really.

76ers (who drafted and traded him, even tho his Momma worked for them)
Bucks
Cavs
Knicks
Suns
Lakers
Grizz
GS
Denver
Kings
Heat

And Luka would give his left nut for him.

I'm not sure we actually had an offer on the table for Bridges. Was that confirmed outside of Grizz FO "leaks"?

Or it could have been structured in such a way that the picks would only convey if they were outside the lottery.

We've had this debate in the past but Pera has never shown a willingness to be a taxpayer. Just skeptical knowing that....

I admittedly have fallen into the FO is just selling "the future" with the trio to maximize earnings without actually doing what's necessary to get to the next level/championship. This year's trade deadline was what sealed it for me.

Luke Kennard is "going to flourish in this offense" - he just had his minutes cut in game 4. I assume it was because he was reluctant (I assume an issue with him with LAC as well). And that was the only move.

Meanwhile, Adams and Clarke remain out, and they made no move to shore the rebounding up.

Robert Pera is worth $15b

Robert Pera bought the Grizzlies for $370m

The Grizzlies are worth about $2b

The guy didn’t bat an eye giving Mike Conley the biggest contract in NBA history. Zero issue maxing Marc Gasol. Paid Ja as much as contractually possible. About to have 3 max players on roster.

The problem isn’t Robert Pera’s pocketbook

Using Rudy Gay’s bum ass as your only counterpoint is so hilarious it doesn’t deserve refuting

Kleiman is bright .. I hate coming off as knocking him all the time .. but he’s not half as smart as he thinks he is. He fell into Jaren and lucked into Ja. Bane was a great pick and is a great player. He’s done nothing else. Meddling around the fringes is great but we’ve had chances to really take a swing and not done it. Assets have been poorly managed. The most aggressive thing we’ve done resulted in Ziaire williams.

Rudy Gay wasn't the only salary dump during the Core 4 era (remember the lovely Jon Leuer deal, for example)....but hey, keep on defending the guy who has twice had championship windows and who neither time became a taxpayer...

It's his money so he can do what he wants but NOTHING he had done in over a decade shows he is willing to be a taxpayer and take on a Bridges type deal. 95 has a right to be skeptical...

Big whoop maxing players that another team would have maxed (Conley, Ja, Marc)...

The Grizz got no young players or draft capital in return. That is the definition of a salary dump. They just got Rudy's awful salary off the books by taking back a less awful salary (Prince). Rudy was a poor fit with how the team was being constructed but he had been on the block for over a year due to avoiding the luxury tax. Rudy was really overpaid and a bad fit, not arguing that but most of 13's success was Conley and Gasol taking steps up.

The 13 team had both the LAC and Okc suffer key injuries. Once they played a healthy team in the playoffs, they got swept and haven't been there since.

“It always comes down to game-plan discipline,” said Bane, the Grizzlies’ high scorer with 36 points. “LeBron has been a strong right-hand driver since he’s come into the league 20 years ago or however long he’s been in the league. He gets to his right hand, and you know, we got two guys on that side that are supposed to be in help, but you know, didn’t execute. It’s pretty much as simple as that.”

Yeah, I saw that quote and thought it was interesting. I’d still much rather have lebron score a contested 2 over Jaren to tie than give someone an open 3 to lose.

Was this supposed to be part of the Nets trade? Because I can't see why the Suns would've traded him directly to y'all, knowing you guys don't want to give up anybody good.

100% should be. Well except maybe Tyus (unless they can get something better in return).
Roddy, LaRivia, and Konchar are lucky to be on an NBA roster. Ziaire is a G-Leaguer. Complete roster mismanagement from the FO. At this point its comical how smart they think they are (hint, they aren't).
