Your Memphis Grizzlies Basketball Thread III

Watch the Lakers get smoked in the next round. Anyone think it would've made a difference in this series if the team was healthy?

The cap is going to increase ~$50m dollars between now and when John konchars salary goes from 2m to 6m. I’m not much of a math guy (jk, I am) but it seems like we MAY be able to manage.

FYI, I think Ja sent the right message with his talk about accountability and owning up to his prior comments. For the record, I don’t have any issue with trash talk (unless your Brooks just openly being an ******* to a legend), just be ready to own it when you lose. I think he said the right things.

Of course, talk is cheap, and I’m not ruling out I’m getting into all kinds of **** in the off-season. Still, it was nice to hear.

Bane, BC and Ja will make $70-80 million more than they make now in 22-23....suck on that math guy...

You will have ~130MM guaranteed for 5 guys with ~42MM for rest of the roster (10 spots) without becoming a taxpayer. You gotta replace Tyus, Dillon, Luke with that money as well....

Using 6 of that 42 for a playoff non-contributor is an issue...

A) I don’t know anything about his contract but based on the above it sounds like Brandon Clarke is the problem

B) 130m for 5 guys but you constantly bitch about playoff contributor like more than 7-8 guys play in the playoffs and really only 4-6 matter.

C) $6m will be DIRT CHEAP for a “regular season” rotation player in 2025

D) this is the last time I’m talking about this so please try to understand. $4m is a totally INCONSEQUENTIAL amount of money in general. When you think specifically about the issues with this team, $4m increase for John Konchar doesn’t rank in the top 15 (no hyperbole) of issues, ever.

One they knew they couldn't resign in the 24 offseason because....

Thanks for proving my point better than I could...
You think the Deanthony Melton (with two full seasons left on his current contract) trade was a salary dump because the grizzlies knew they couldn’t resign him in 2025(!) and not because he was the 3rd 6 ft guard who sometimes fell out of the rotation and they were dying to pick david roddy to prove how smart they are?

You cannot really believe that. That is as nonsensical as it gets. They needed to get better and bigger on the wings. They’ve taken three swings and yet here we are, needing to get better and bigger on the wings. And the salary cap has nothing to do with it.

A salary dump was the Leuer deal or the Grayson Allen deal. Melton was a proactive move to get an 1st round pick (Roddy) because they would not be able to resign Melton after the 23-24 season. I have no issue with them moving on from Melton for that reason. The issue I have is using whatever long term flexibility you got by moving Melton on Konchar 2 years early.

Again, the Konchar extension isn't a huge deal at the end of the day but it's just another example of the front office shutting the door on the championship window. I can go back to batching about the Ziaire, Winslow, and Jake deals if you want...

This team is in its championship window. Every deal should be done through the prism of "does this help us win playoff games".

Clarke's deal is an issue too. Him or Adams will have to be moved by the end of next season if you want a competent replacement for Dillon (and eventually replacement for Tyus or Kennard).

I'm just afraid this team will bring back Dillon because of the financial situation they've put themselves in/missing on draft picks. I think we can both agree this is the worst case scenario...

At least one of the Lakers and Warriors will be eliminated next round. That’s about my only positive from the playoffs so far.

"I'll hit on (Brooks) another day," Kleiman said. "Nothing I can comment on for now with him going into free agency."

"We're going to take a different approach as it pertains to (trash talk) next season," Kleiman said. "You'll see a different approach from this team, but at the same time, confidence is important. .. There's a line there, certainly."

What Grizzlies GM Zach Kleiman said about Dillon Brooks' future, team offseason plans
