I still haven't heard from Z how his visit went last week. That concerns me.

He visited with his uncle & stepfather. Uncle is a "big UT fan."

He was hoping to see family-like atmosphere, and apparently his expectations were met.

Many questions he had for the staff & how he'd be used were answered.

He sensed excitement and the players seemed to have faith in the coaches.

Apparently an Ole Miss called him to make sure he didn't commit on the spot. He plans to commit after his visits are taken.

I read that article days ago, guess I just forgot to post it. I may have read it late at night or early in the day when I was going out the door. Sorry for the delay.

Well that sounds good to me...ESPN has ranked him #2 TE so it's hard to call him a sleeper anymore...he'll be quite a player.

Post Ole Miss visit:

Mason said he'll decide between Ole Miss and Tennessee "by Saturday," adding that neither school had the lead coming down the home stretch. Sounded like he and his mom enjoyed the visit though.

Scout article---

"I was blown away by their campus. I like the new dorms they are building. I just really enjoyed it."

"[his host] said some guys are more about the team than others, but he said you are going to get that anywhere. He told me that it was the closest group he had every played with, and that everyone sticks together."

Rivals article---

"I really enjoyed what I saw this weekend and there's a good possibility this will be home for me."

I don't think it was the greatest weekend of his life, but he definitely had positive things to say about Ole Miss.

The fact that he didn't commit to Ole Miss this weekend makes me like our chances. If he was going to go to OM then why wait? He doesn't have anymore visits lined up.

because he doesn't want to make a rash decision based on impulse? he wants to have a couple nights to sleep on a huge decision?

You are thinking like a reasonable person... not an 18 year old kid. :)

He had no 1-on-1 time with Lane during his official visit, because he had to get home for work.

He lives with his mom and stepdad.

He goes to private school.

From what I've read on him---his priorities/a stable home life/education all say he's going to make a much more informed decision than his peers. He seems far more grounded and well-rounded than kids his age.

you just ran onto the court with your tracksuit still on..whistle's already been blown.

It is a shame that more kids aren't as grounded as this young man.

Z's film is really impressive, he has good moves and speed for someone his size.

This kid is going to end up being one of the biggest sleepers of this entire class...huge, agile, appears to have good hands. This guy has future all-conference all over him. How did he just become known as of late??

good and bad news---

good news is that someone put up a YouTube video:

YouTube - Zee Mason CPA RB/TE/DE

bad news is that some people feel we aren't pushing that hard for him at this point. some at VQ have suggested he wasn't pushed very hard to commit last weekend.

he doesn't look as fast in that video, but I think much of it has to do with the choppy video.

They didn't seem to push anyone that hard to commit. All of the articles I read say that there was no pressure. I don't know whether that's good or bad, but I'm in Sales and I'm a closer. Closing is an important part of the process and it doesn't have to involve pressure, but you have to ask for the commitment. You have to let the recruit know that he's wanted and you want his commitment. They didn't do that from what I saw. Maybe it's a different situation with some of these guys. You really have to make sure you build up trust and a relationship before you hard close. I hope that's why. And that's another reason it's so difficult on these coaches to pull out a great recruiting class with so little time. The recruiting process has steps you should follow and these steps are spread out over a long period of time. The coaches are having to condense their pitch into a few weeks and that makes it tough to win vs. these schools that have been in on these guys for 2 years.

Z is a can't miss prospect with his size and athletic ability. We need a guy like him in this class. I think the coaches want him as much as any other prospect. I just hope Ole Miss isn't too much to overcome.
