Zimmerman charged with 2nd degree murder

prosecutor has probably taken a plea out of the picture with this charge.....if i was GZ's attorney I would counsel against as it is now 2nd degree or nothing if I understand it properly, some are saying that if it gets to a jury, they could be allowed to convict on the lesser of manslaughter, I am not sure about that

Prosecutor's don't charge 2nd degree and then offer 2nd degree as a plea. If they're going to offer a plea deal it would be a lower charge.

either I did not do a good job with my thought in my post or you you just repeated what I said........the charge is 2nd degree, I would not take a plea offer if I was GZ as it is now a conviction on 2nd or an acquittal, why would GZ take any lower offer at this point?

Prosecutor will ask for jury instructions on manslaughter.

Call me crazy but this feels like another Casey Anthony case to me...

1) Media coverage is crazy

2) Public outcry is over the top.

3) Overzealous prosecutors are attempting to prosecute the defendant on a more serious charge which will be harder to prove and might result in the defendant who would otherwise be in jail for a less serious crime, walk free. (He should probably be charged with manslaughter instead of second degree murder)

4) It will be a sensational TV drama.

You are in line with all the legal "experts" that I have heard comment over the past 12 hours

Yay! I am half a world away (I haven't read or hear about this until this thread) with no law degree and I am on par with "legal experts". Booyah!

what else would the family attorney say?

Therefore the qualifying language in my post. However, it would seem pretty stupid for one of the lawyers involved to mis-speak so blatantly. Not that lawyers are exempt from being stupid (present company excepted).

I am curious, does anyone know if the DA can change the charge at anytime up to the start of the trial, assuming this ever goes that far? It would seem so, but I haven't stayed at a Holiday Inn Express recently.

that was not aimed at you, I knew you were just posting the article and not endorsing...................I have heard that the DA will not change it but the judge assigned can throw it out with no trial if he/she does not see a reason to proceed

I'm with bham on this one... this whole thing stinks and is all a lose/lose. Dude was pretty much being overzealous and not only has it landed him in hot water but he has the race baters crawling out of the rocks to crucify him in the court of public opinion with the media being over willing accomplices.

So the city can't handle a shooting?

I think the obvious the answer is "no".

Would this be the case if Sharpton and Co hadn't turned this into a circus?

Anytime those clowns get a voice, everybody loses something.

Hopefully, lots of people will learn something from this episode.

The charges are a stretch and will be extremely hard to prove......this is a cave to public pressure imo

agree. Not to mention with a father who is a former florida state supreme court justice, he will get the best defense.

Does the Judge that had GZ arrested get the dead or alive bounty from the panther party?
