TAMPA, Fla. — The Badger Sport Elite 7-on-7 brought out the best of the best Saturday and Sunday on the campus of the University of South Florida.

In a 7-on-7 situation defensive ends are not used, so for one to have an impact he has switch positions. This was the case for edge-rusher Aaron Lynch (Cape Coral, Fla./Island Coast), who played tight end. While he didn’t have as much of an impact as a pass-catcher at this event, the 6-foot-6, 247-pounder is still a very coveted prospect.

Lynch’s competitive fire, size and relentless pass-rushing style have earned him offers from the likes of Alabama, Clemson, Tennessee, Miami, Florida State, LSU, Ohio State, Notre Dame and North Carolina, among others. However, one program is standing out for the fast-rising 2011 prospect.

“Notre Dame is definitely out in front right now,” said Lynch, who grew up a Miami fan. “I have developed a bond with Notre Dame [running backs] coach [Tony] Alford. I call him probably every other day. I think in April I’m going up to Notre Dame. Tennessee and everybody is out there still, but Notre Dame is standing out the most.”

Getting the intense, confident defender on campus this spring and summer will be key, because Lynch is likely to make his decision at the beginning of the 2010 season.

Vols in on tight end

Tight end Jeff Heuerman (Naples, Fla./Barron Collier) already holds nine scholarship offers, including a recent one from Tennessee. The Vols offered recently after the 6-5, 230-pounder traveled to Knoxville for an unofficial visit, which included attending a junior day event.

“It was great [at Tennessee],” Heuerman said. “I loved it. I loved [coach] Derek Dooley and the facilities and campus.”

South Florida, Michigan State, Rutgers, Purdue, Maryland, Florida Atlantic, Florida International and Memphis have all offered, and he’s getting attention from numerous other Division I programs.

Heuerman had 15 receptions for 350 yards last season, including a 97-yard touchdown reception, which set a school record.
