So everyone that redshirts is lazy and unmotivated? How about those, like you and me, that don't even get a football scholarship. What category are we in?

didn't say redshirts.. just that there are players within a group of 85 that are not tuned into what it takes to become SEC level players. Not unique to Tennessee, happens at all the schools. Riley Ferguson another example.. some end up staying for their entire careers (Pair for example) and others end up moving on...

Be careful. Larry is one of our most reliable posters on this board. He would not say it if it were not true.

Mosley staying out at DT or moving to OL will have everything to do with Mosley and little to do with Blair. We have plenty of bodies at OT now. Mosley won't be moved out of necessity unless a lot of guys start going down. If he moves, it will be because he has more potential on that side of the ball in the SEC.

Since you want to be a smart @$$. It tells you that O-line is a developmental position. With that said, the top 6 JUCO offensive lineman redshirted last year. Are they all busts? I repeat, the top 6 JUCO offensive linemen redshirted last year. So are all these linemen busts too?

Avery Gennesy
Dominick Jackson
Chad Mavety
Jermaine Eluemunor
Jordan Prestwood
Dontavious Blair

It helps to know the context of what you are talking about. CBJ has told y'all ass hats that OL is a developmental position, but yet threads like this are made after one day of walk throughs.
oline is a position especially in a major conference that is hard to transition to. I would say it might be even harder for a JUCO than a true freshman because the true freshman has less ingrained bad habits to unlearn. They have not not only unlearn whatever habits they have from high school but also whatever they picked up in their juco program. I would say WR (especially slot) and on defense pass rush specialist are the only positions that are easy to come in and make an instant impact in. This is because those positions have a lot less responsibilities than others do and rely a lot more on pure talent than technique or football IQ. Offensive tackle and MLB are the positions that are the hardest to come in and make an instant impact at even moreso than QB.

After just two spring practices, Tennessee offensive line coach Don Mahoney isnÂ’t ready to proclaim that redshirt junior offensive tackle Dontavius Blair has arrived and is prepared to play a significant role.

But Mahoney said Blair has started to make noticeable strides.
Mahoney spoke highly Thursday of the improvement Blair has shown through the Vols’ first two spring practices, praising the former junior-college transfer for “the strength gains that he’s made and just his overall conditioning level” in addition to his better understanding of what he's doing on the field.
“Tell you what: In two days, he’s really made a lot of progress,” Mahoney said following UT’s practice Thursday afternoon at Haslam Field.
“He was more fighting at practice last year than he was the guys in practice in terms of the technique and fundamentals and the scheme and all that. He was battling his own physical condition. Now he’s better in shape, and he’s stronger. His sense of urgency’s great.
“We haven’t hit yet, but technically a lot of the things that he’s done, I’ve been really pleased in the two days. He’s making a mistake and he knows he’s making it. Before, a mistake would be made and he wasn’t quite sure. And he hasn’t made many. But when he does, or if something happened that wasn’t quite right, he knows it, so that’s positive signs in the right direction.”
Asked whether he believes Blair is close to being able to help the Vols, Mahoney said, “He has to.”
“He’s got to step up, and he’s responded that way,” Mahoney added. “And I think competition in general has been the key for anyone in any position at what they do, in any program. I think it’s good. Across the board, there’s guys that last year were not to the standard of what this program’s all about, and everybody needs to step it up.”

Notes: Vols OT Dontavius Blair showing 'a lot of progress'

I'm not sure why some of you are getting so butthurt about Blair being bad. He's bad. He came in out of shape last year when he should've started, and now after a year here as a 21-22 year old 4th year college athlete he is on the scout team with a true freshman coming off a ruptured Achilles playing in front of him. He will never play significant snaps for us. I wish it weren't so, but I would bet on that. Also he was probably redshirted in hopes that he could get it together based on size. It didn't happen. Wouldn't surprise me if he wasn't here next year or even this coming season.

Contrast what you wrote, with what our actual OL coach said about him after the 3/26 practice:

"MAHONEY: In two days @gotmy_weightup has shown a lot of progress. Strength gains he has made, he's stronger and has sense of urgency.
MAHONEY: Blair has to help us at tackle. He's got to step up. Competition is key at any area. Last year was not up to the standard."

How has he disappointed when he was RS'd and has yet to either play or not play this year? I don't have a horse in this race but IMO we should just let this play out to see if he comes into his own.

Jones is good at keeping his cards close to his chest and his bets hedged. I wouldn't be shocked at all if Blair doesn't work out, or if Blair turns out to be the starter come Fall simply so other teams don't know how to prepare for us early on. Oklahoma, for instance.

O line was our glaring weakness last year. If it no longer is, why let opponents know that up front?

It is good to hear it from the coach, and not a few stereotyping hicks calling him lazy, unmotivated and other ignorant dog whistle musings. Lies made up by untalented jealous couch potatoes.

Regardless of what happens, you will be surprised? You're making it hard to surprise you.
