Thread to discuss Butch's pre-camp press conference today.
-Eric Berry. Another great story of resiliency and perseverance. He's a tremendous story of how you meet adversity head on, and it's a great illustration for all of us when we suffer adversity.
-First three practices are at night.
-We were set back with the 13 individuals being held out of spring practice.
-We didn't do a good job last year of dealing with sudden change, on offense or defense.
-Our defense gave up 32 scores in 34 red zone appearances last year.
-64% of the players on our roster have been in our football program one year or less.
-The theme for our football program this year is "My All" as in "I will give my all for Tennessee today."
-We have to get one percent better every time we leave the practice field, every time we leave the meeting room.
-We were eighth in the country in third down defense. If we were one percent better we would have led the country.
-LaTroy Lewis had knee scoped. Could be out 2-3 weeks.
-Max Arnold and Andrew Butcher will miss the start of camp. Austin Sanders will be limited. Preston Williams will not practice as we await word. Keep Zack Stewart in your prayers as his family goes through something very, very challenging. He is delaying his enrollment.
-No updates on Von Pearson.
-Malik Foreman will start off at defensive back.
-Jauan Jennings will start camp at wide receiver, but will get some reps at quarterback.
-Von Pearson's is a school suspension and a team suspension.
-Charles Mosley is on the team. All discipline will be handled internally.
-We have to be careful not to put too many expectations on freshmen who have never played a snap of college football.
-MLB will be a competitive position: Kenny Bynum, Darrin Kirkland, Dillon Bates, Jakob Johnson, Gavin Bryant.
-We've led the country in early enrollees the last two years.
-This year's EE's had a 3.0 GPA
-This is the first year we will be able to fill out an offensive line with all scholarship players.
-Offensive line will be highly competitive, right there with MLB and backup quarterback.
-We had way too many negative yardage football plays last year.
-Coleman Thomas will play center but will get reps at tackle as well. He's benefited from the reps he got last year. He'll play where he can best help the team win.
-We are pretty settled in at the position groups. Malik Foreman is probably the biggest question mark and that's a compliment to him, that he can help us on both sides of the ball.
-All 13 players who missed spring have been cleared to practice.
-Trevarris Saulsberry is touch and go. He's no where near 100%. It will be day by day with him.
-Shy Tuttle and Khalil McKenzie. We know a little more about Shy. Khalil has done everything we've asked him over the summer.
-Wide receiver depth is an area of concern. Jason Croom and Josh Smith have to be closely monitored in their return from injury.
-Jalen Hurd had a good offseason and is at 242 pounds. Alvin Kamara has elevated his game. Excited to see John Kelly. You add Ralph David Abernathy and Joseph Young to the mix.
-Kyle Oliver should not be on the roster.
That's it.
