AD should not be making decisions based off what some internet board commenter is saying. Coaching market is very dynamic. We don't know how we could position ourselves for a hire in December 2021. We have to panic and make a sub-par hire and then we'll be back to cleaning house in a few years.
While I think we agree on most points, no HC hire is a sure thing. Many think Kiffin would do great here. But, look at how his dream job worked out at USC. This hire is an upgrade from Pruitt. How much of an upgrade remains to be seen. If he improves our winning average and can get us through the mess we are in right now, then his hire was not a bad hire. Once we put our current NCAA mess behind us, I believe a top tier HC would be interested. Until then we have what we have and I am going to pray for the best.

All I get from this is hiring White was a waste of money. Fulmer could have hired any old coach.

All I ever hear (read) is that NOBODY wanted to work for Fulmer. That's why the last search that netted Pruitt, his options were limited with sitting head coaches...his "final three" were J Pruitt, K Steele, and M Tucker.

nonsense. Ole Miss went and hired Kiffin right after they got off probation from Freeze. If ole miss can do that, we can hire freeze right now
I think the “right off probation” is the difference which is where we may be by then

Nah, we sacrificed ourselves to the NCAA. We'll lose a scholly or two but it won't be that big of a deal. The university wanted to get rid of pruitt without paying his buyout. They went the NCAA route and covered for the boosters that were providing this money. They were able to keep the boosters and get rid of the coach. No school wants to have to disassociate with a big booster like Alabama had to do with Logan Young back in early 2000s

I hope that is the case. And not that they accidentally uncovered more that they meant to

Posting Dan Wolken and Pat Forde should be banable offenses 'round here.

They are still butthurt over us not hiring Greg Schiano.

Heupel is a better coach than Schiano. Is he a guaranteed success? No. But stop trying to spin Schiano (a disaster coach of epic proportions) as some sort of "missed opportunity".
That's why I was laughing so hard. Forde is absolutely at the top of the list of "writers" that the Vol fan base hates. He may have a point or two but today he's our "source"...LOL

To Forde, Willem, Rittenhouse and even Chris Low, the fans didn’t create the problem and are not the blame of the previous administration’s incompetence. Stop giving Fulmer a pass because his minions are your sources!

On what planet can you walk into parents' houses with a head coach with Schiano's baggage, both at Penn State and the NFL, and be able to recruit at the level necessary to win in the SEC?

The fans were the only actors in that scenario who displayed any amount of common sense.

As a guy who lives in the Tampa area and got a first hand look at how Schiano treats players, I don't get the love folks have for Schiano. He's a poor coach and a low-rent character.
I didn't say anything about liking/loving him.

Winning a sugar bowl in 2015 is not a loser. But I get it, youre a life championships guy. Thats ok too

Freeze is a great coach but bringing him here wasn't the right move. How do you bring in a guy that had over 15 NCAA violations that got him canned (not even addressing the moral compass) to a program about to get hit w/sanctions? That is insanity from an optics standpoint and no one was going to sign off on it; non-starter. People forget that the AD that hired him at Liberty came from Baylor where they had a huge scandal as well..... Terrible judgement. That is only one-level above the Schiano hire and debatable.

the violations didnt implicate him directly. Thats why hes still a college coach. If youre problem is with escorts, than just be glad you dont actually goes on in the real world

"with a fan base that could politely be characterized as volatile"

Or to put it more bluntly, so-called "fans" that actively work against the program.

f pat forde, but this hire is a joke and the fans that are pumping sunshine are the same ones that drank the dooley, jones, pruitt kool-aid. they should be disregarded. low information fans. sheep. the kinda suckers that fall for higher ed administrators' high integrity bs

Careful, don't use it all up. You'll want to save some of that hate for your 4Chan posts.

Thank heavens we have the "real-fan" brigade to offset the effects.
