ForumsGeorgia produces some of the nation’s best recruits every year. For 2011 this expectation is still there and many players are fighting for the top player in the state. The Vols think they are in on one of those top players in a safety from Marietta, GA’s Kell High School.
VolNation.com caught up with Brian Randolph to see how his recruiting process is going and if he’s cut his list down at all.
“Yes sir it is true, I have indeed cut my list down to four schools,” explains Randolph.
“My top schools are Florida, Tennessee, Georgia Tech, and Mississippi State,” said Randolph.
While it is months before National Signing Day, Randolph explained the factors that led to his top schools making the cut.
“I just really like all four of these schools and they are schools where I can play in a great conference, SEC or ACC, and yet still be close to home and my family.”
Being close to home and a school with tradition the Vols could be a serious player for Randolph.
“Tennessee is only an hour drive from my parents house and I love the fact that the defense really focuses on the defensive backs making plays all over the field,” says Randolph.” I also have started talking with the coaching staff and they seem really sincere to me and my family. The overall feel at the school is also a plus for me as well.”
The 6 foot 185-pound safety states he’s had some contact with the coaching staff already and, because of that, feels he’s gotten to know them a lot better.
“I bumped into the coaching staff at the Kentucky Tennessee basketball game earlier in the year and from that I just got a great chance to speak with the staff. I met my defensive back coach Joseph while my parents and myself also met the new head coach Derek Dooley,” said Randolph.
“I am looking at giving Coach Joseph a call soon and trying to set up a visit where I can come out and watch a spring practice and see everything on campus.”
Randolph said his parents had a chance to sit down with Dooley at the game and they were impressed.
“My parents sat down and talked with him just for a bit and they really walked away impressed with what he had to over. He said I fit the style of recruit they want to bring back honor and character to the program and that means a lot to me.”
Randolph said while the Vols look to be a heavy player, he is still open and has no favorites between the four schools.
Randolph also stated he’s looking for a school close to home that will also present the opportunity for early playing time.
