Valdosta, GA.- Spring time is a big time for developments with top recruits. A lot of big time recruits who fetch a high amount of early offers often look to trim their college list down by this time. That is exactly the case with Valdosta star tight end Jay Rome. Jay has made his cut to his final five schools and has decided to make that list public at this time.
“I’ve narrowed it down to Clemson, Georgia, Florida, Alabama, and Tennessee in no order. I’m going to take five official visits to those schools. I’ve already visited all five of them already, but I will go back and check them each out again.”
The five schools on the list all have similar attributes which is why they made the cut.
“All the five schools have tight end friendly offenses, I think I can make an impact at each school. The next thing is distance from home, I want my parents to be able to see me play. All the schools are comfortable to me.”
Football is not the only sport that Jay excels in. He’s also a very coveted 6’6′ 240 pound forward.
“I’m going to be doing AAU basketball this summer. I’m considering playing basketball in college too. I play small and power forward. Football is my first choice but I’m going to consider basketball too.”
Jay provides some mismatch problems for defensive coordinators. It’s one of the many attributes coaches love about the ESPNU 150 watch lister.
“Coaches all tell me they love my ability to create mismatches. I have great size and ability. They also tell me they love my route running.”
With Jay already visiting his final five, he shared what he thought about a couple of the visits.
“Alabama was great. I had some great one on one time with coach Saban, that was definitely the high point. Coach Pruitt is recruiting me from there and I really like him. Tennessee I was there for the spring game and I really enjoyed that. Coach Russell has stayed in contact and I enjoy talking to him.”
Currently there is no commitment date set yet, but once his visits get over with he expects it will come soon after.
Valdosta high is always a power house in the state of Georgia. They are in the largest classification in the state and have won multiple state titles.
“We looked very good this spring, we have a young quarterback but he’s doing well. I think we’ll win state. Me and Malcolm (Mitchell) talk about recruiting a lot. We have a lot of the same offers. But we each have to make our own decision, but we’d love for it to happen.”
