Game Thread: Tennessee (15-8, 8-3 SEC) versus No. 1 South Carolina (23-0, 10-0) @ Food City Center, 2/15, 7:00 PM (EST), ESPN

They will blow our doors off next time
I'm afraid you're probably right. SC has more options for adjusting to this game than Tennessee does. Tennessee had too much 1-on-1 action going. 7 assists on 21 makes vs. 17 assists on 28 makes for SC. I do expect that Spear (and by extension, the SC guards) will all shoot much better than they did tonight.

Dumbest post of the night.. they competing with South Carolina.

It’s not like Tennessee played a flawless game.

some of the players on SC team got serious attitude issues.

That ain’t going to fly come tournament time. That team will lose game(s) so they better hope it comes before March Madness.

Got away with fouling for the entire 2nd half and Tennessee wasn’t even allowed to contest shots.
If we had not played a flawed game, we would have won by 20-25 points. We played badly on offense most of the game and the defense was not very good either, however,, for the first time thi year, they played with heart an a lot of energy. Foul trouble hurt in the end of the second quarter and the fourth quarter. Effort was the reason we were in the games against the best team in the NCAA And effort wins a lot of games.

Our offense leaves me scratching my head. The ball sticks way too much and nobody moving. Everyone just standing around for a few seconds and then someone will come too. We seem to do better in transition when we don't blow the layups.
The offense was 1-on-1 from Jackson and scoring off steals on rebounds. They tried to go to Tamari a few times, but Kamila put an end to that idea quickly. If there were plans drawn up for offense (which I doubt), then the team didn't follow it.

How long has it been since you watched a game. We have not been relevant for awhile now. Us keeping this game close was a win for the fans, I expected a blowout but am pleasantly surprised. I believe any team can win on any given night but SC is loaded with talent.
I only ask you then…..why don’t we have a coach that can recruit and have us loaded with talent. Oh….we have fans that are happy when we just keep it close. I just need to lower my expectations like most of you have. How far have we fallen?????

I can’t wait to play them on the road.
I told y’all Sara Puckett > Kitts.
That official with the agenda needs to be reported and barred from calling any other LV games.

Tennesse played well for most of the game. Unfortunately, SC's quality team depth and our lack of stamina in the fourth quarter were big factors in the loss.

Although, the game was tied at the end of the third quarter we really never got in a good rhythm. SC's defense sped us up and as a result we missed a lot of shots that we should have made and usually do.

Powell played with intensity and determination. She played bigger than she is. However, most of her 17 shots were contested by players who are actually bigger. We did a better job with turnovers tonight until you realize a contested bad shot is effectively a turnover.

Additionally, fatigue usually causes bad decisions and we had more than our share in the fourth quarter. Watkins and Cordosa were difference makers.
A really good effort on our part. With this level of play we are very competitive.

oh please. you’re comical. dawn did not tell south carolina to back off of us, that’s just stupid. we played 3 AMAZING quarters. we played great defense. you’re being silly
Ok it’s awful funny they haven’t played like that all year and didn’t saw Dawn told sc to back Dawn backed off

I am proud of our Lady Vols. They gave everything they had, but just ran out of steam in the 4th. Good to great defense for much of the game, especially the first half. Very few turnovers until the 4th. I am so glad that Puckett had the game of her career given her great focus, poise, and skills shown against the best team in the country. Concerns include teams being able to shut down Spear completely and Rickea just running on fumes in the 2nd half of several games in a row (understandable in this one). Biggest concern is that we won't have much in the tank left at Vandy. That game is incredibly important! We'll worry about this later. For now, this team has grown, playing four very good games in the last five. We need to keep this momentum moving forward.

I personally thought she played the best game for Tennessee. Her points were quiet, but she was very smart in how she got them. Rickea had to work way harder for every point she put up on the scoreboard
I was impressed with : the team effort overall until they ran out of gas in 4th quarter against the SC depth and superior athleticism ;the scrappy play of Powell ....she kept them in the game along with Puckett in 1st half ; Jackson gave her all in this game and the adjustment made by SC Coach defensively in 4th quarter ( running another player at her to take the ball out of hands either by steals or having to pass the ball .

The LV's did win the moral victory but still ....imo .....have to win three of the remaining games to make the NCAA Tourney. The good news ...at least to me....is that if they give the same effort they gave on the court tonite against Vandy ,Texas A&M ,and even LSU they do have a chance to win those games especially if they can get more out of Spear and Key .

Really tough physical ball game. Much to like intensity was there they overwhelmed us though in piant and our offense struggled against Really good D. Now with the minuets played by several what will we have left for Sunday at Vandy. In CHRIST Alone

They HAVE to win of the last four. They have to. 2 more wins puts them at 17, and they can't risk sitting on 17 if they want to get in the tournament. That means beating at least one highly ranked team, either LSU at home or South Carolina on the road.

Hell it's not even a given they'll win 2. A&M's not exactly chopped liver.
Yeah, this is the game I'm most concerned about. Tennessee doesn't have a size advantage, and TAMU has excellent guards.

Really think the next three, including the LSU game, are firmly in the “need to win” category. Lose any one of them and we’re out in my opinion barring a massive upset at SC to close out the regular season.

As far as CKH goes…she’s the head coach, and she has four more regular season opportunities to prove she should remain the head coach. We’ll see how it shakes out. Tonight’s loss I do not believe significantly impacted how those in charge view her one way or the other.

Playing them on the road will be more difficult.

As for the officiating, SC had 17, TN 15. I would say it’s better than most nights.

I just don't see the things happening that should be. After the initial screen and dribble drive we kick it out and the ball sticks. Its like we have no idea what to do with it. It drives me crazy.

There you go again. Insulting another poster after another loss.
WinnerCircle is obviously a troll. Think of how bereft of meaning his life must be. Spending so much time on a forum, with the sole aim of posting outrageous comments, in the hope of drawing emotionally charged responses.
So sad.
