Game Thread: Tennessee (15-8, 8-3 SEC) versus No. 1 South Carolina (23-0, 10-0) @ Food City Center, 2/15, 7:00 PM (EST), ESPN

Really great atmosphere and really great effort, particularly from Sarah Puckett. Was a really tough loss, particularly because I started getting texts from friends at halftime who don’t normally follow basketball commending our performance. Another frustrating game because it illustrates just how high the ceiling for this team has been all season yet we’ve been all over the place in effort and result.

If we lose it will be within 13 points
If we win it will be by 5
11 point loss,,,
we will win one of the SC-2 LSU-1 games
And we need to win 2 of 3 Ark/TAMU/Vandy
I believe this is what our NCAA entry has to be
SEC tourney notwithstanding
it will have to be the LSU game bc when we go to SC,,its going to be bad,,,real bad,,,Dawn will have them so motivated,,,they will be chewing nails and spitting back tacks

People on here don’t like Darby but I think we would need her to hit about 5 3’s which she’s capable of.
she had several open looks tonight,,,didn't take them
This is the SEC
You don't have time to pitch a tent, put on a pot of beans and then shoot

Players all over the NCAA can shoot the 3 off of the curl,,,Not one of our players can do that....why?

We just didn’t get the 3 point shooting we needed overall, but still could have won the game, Spear with 0 points is my biggest disappointment.

I always thought we would have a better chance against Sc instead of LSU, but who know what can happen.
A very good effort by the Lady Vols tonight. Sure we lost, but we looked good doing it. We put the scare in Carolina for three-fourths of the game. I don't think this loss hurt our tournament resume at all ; if anything, it helped it. If we can play with such intensity against LSU without wilting at the end, I think we can take them. We need to concentrate on beating Vandy and A&M before we get there though. First things first.

LSU doesn’t have much of any bench, UT’s chances are pretty good in that one I would think. They are the best rebounding team in the conference however and they draw fouls better than any team in the nation. No easy win If they get to the line 20+ times as they average.

LSU will bring del Rosario and Poa off the bench...maybe Kent. I think that's comparable to Tennessee's bench of Hollinghsead, Striplin and (God forbid) Darby.

LSU will have a big edge for the starters though...especially if Williams comes out hitting her shots.

Because why DP? LSU is the team with no real bench. And they have been beaten several times already. Did you like the matchups better? I could see LSU getting UT bigs in serious foul trouble early. They do that to teams.

S/O RJ after tonight she proved not only to be the best lottery pick on the court but the true GENERATIONAL talent that will likely be even better in the WNBA.

Also, I’m looking forward to seeing Jewel Spear bounce back.

It happens.. got to move forward.
I believe she’ll benefit greatly if she returns for another season.

Her, Sara, TK, and the rest of the group is a solid core. Destinee Wells, Talaysia Cooper, and Kaniya Boyd are players I look forward to seeing this summer/early fall.

Tennessee basketball is one of the greatest traditions I’ve ever seen in sports. They don’t rebuild, they reload.
Lets goooooooooooooooooooo!
Lets GBOoooooooooooooo🍊
I agree that this core will be solid for the new coach.

Powell is a 5th year senior that’s always played this way, so guess all of her coaches are to blame, that’s just who she is.
Didn’t get any better and still playing=Not getting coached up. Continued bad team fundamentals is bad coaching. No movement and then force bad passes is continued bad coaching. We continue to be a team that doesn’t play sound basketball and that again goes back to coaching as well as recruiting.

Playing a team twice is always an advantage, plus we beat LSU last year in the tournament so revenge will be on their mind, just a couple of things I thought would play a part.

36 minutes played and 0 for the night in scoring.....
Not her finest game....

Sweet girl, but the team needed a scorer.

IF we play the way we played tonight defensively, we will beat LSU at home. They've been beaten already this year by far worse teams than us. We will need TBA to be rocking.
No we will need to play better and score more than 56pts. Spear will need to step up and we need better overall perimeter shooting.
