LSU and SC were invited to the NIT only because there are 2 auto spots for the SEC and they were the only 2 left. Both gave the same type statement about looking forward to next season and all but reading between the lines I kinda got the feeling they were saying "We had a losing record, come on..."

B12, B10, and Big East all committed to send 2 teams. I'm not really sure how it worked out because several Big 10 teams declined so I guess they may have told USC they had to go. But the other 3 don't make as much sense since there are more than 2 Big East and B12 teams. Probably more to to do with the fact that Fox broadcasts those conferences and they didn't want to get too many non basketball P5 teams. Boise is the only non P5 team.

I wholly disagree about shrinking the field. The opening weekend is the best event in sports. The high seeds losing (unless it's us) are what makes it special. Leaving behind everything below an 8 seed would gut the tournament.

Last night got me thinking about the "importance" of making a FF last night tuning in and seeing FAU playing Dayton in the NIT first round and losing. They made a FF 2 years ago, beating us, but 2 years later who is in better shape? They were one and done last year in the NCAAT and barely finished over .500 this year and probably only got an NIT bid because so many other teams passed.

We follow up with an EE and now we're a legit FF even NC contender. Obviously we have to get there but would we really have taken a FF mircale run over being largely irrelevant the next 2 seasons? I think not.

I root for realistic hires that win a lot of ball games. We aren’t getting Oats and McCollum just wins.

Only the Pearl zealots do that imo. The rest of us wanna win. McCollum wins. I’d take that dude in a heartbeat and see a whole lot of games played in the 50s and 60s because we’d win most of them.

I’m just saying for those who complain now because we don’t play fast enough or score enough on offense even though we’re Top 10 every year and NCAAT mainstays, surely would hate his style even more.

There’s quite a few regulars who have pointed out our issues scoring multiple times this year and have said it is why we always lose in March and why Rick can’t get us to a F4

I didn’t think you were referring to me either. I doubt it matters because he’ll be off the market soon, but he’s a great coach. Like the sets he runs on offense. He gets more with less so I think when he has the resources of a big program he’ll excel.

Stylistically that’s what he does, not sure he’ll suddenly change his stripes and become an offensive up tempo style coach. Again he’s really good, great resume, but his style is exactly what UT fans that have complained about with Barnes hate.
