Chris Dortch analysis on Zo on 104.5

That's a big change from him, and gives some hope.

He had been adamant that Martin wasn't on the hot seat entering the season and barring a disaster of a season, like .500 or worse, that Martin would return.

Yeah I know. He must be picking up the vibes from the AD. I trust Rob as he like Hubbs would not put something like that out there without some evidence to support this

How? The post wasn't even specifically about the UVA game. It was about all of the games we have played well in and looked like a completely different team.

I said we should look that way consistently, which we should because we obviously have the talent and ability to do so. We've shown flashes of it. That doesn't mean we should beat everyone by 35, you pulled that one out of nowhere.

Like I said, my apologies.

Exactly what I was thinking to, that's why I said it gives some hope. Maybe hart won't retain Martin if he misses the dance.

Thats what I have heard as well. I imagine the list of coaches Hart has is being looked at a little closer rigjt now

My list goes:

Tier 1:
Pearl, Howland, Buzz Williams

Tier 2:
Pitino Jr, Chris Mack, Mick Cronin

From there I think the list drops significantly...

Tier 3:
Donnie Tyndall, Michael White, Frank

That is a good list. I would likely say Pitino jr is in the tier 1 pool. And dont be surprised if they make a run at Gregg Marshall.

I'd like to see them make a run at Marshall, maybe the 3rd times a charm? Just think we likely wouldn't offer what it would take for him to leave.

It's too early for this guy. He needs about three more years to prove he can do it with a team of all his own recruits, but if I was a D1 AD, i'd be tracking Derrick Clark at Metro State in Denver. He has the makings of a young Pearl. Took over a great D2 program and has pushed it even higher. 79-18 in three seasons. In the D2 NCAA tournament all three years with an Elite 8 and runnerup finish last two years. Current 20-1 and ranked No. 1 in D2. Has D1 experience as an assistant at Colorado and Air Force. Same age as Cuonzo, but getting a way more impressive resume.

I still think Michael White would be a sold candidate. He's someone not many would know around here, but would be on Hart's list IMO. He's like a younger Pearl, without the D2 resume.

Was a pg at ole miss for 4 years, assistant there, and took the job at Louisiana Tech 3 years ago. The year before he got there they were 12-20, his first year 18-16, 2nd year 27-7, and so far in his 3rd year has them at 20-5 and on the NCAA bubble.

He coaches an uptempo style, full court pressure defense, and has the 5th highest scoring team in the NCAA. So it would be a very exciting style, and I think would really draw the fanbases attention. He has been T'd up multiple times and is a pretty fiery guy as well, just saying lol.

Cronin and Mack would be in my upper pool. But the fact they're both Cincinnati guys and coaching at their alma maters leads me to believe they'd be tough pulls. Still have to make the calls though.

Honest question....what happens in the @lsu, @bama, Xavier, Virginia games? Were we just lucky and fell into big wins? Do they have worse coaches than Zo? Did someone else coach those games?

This is a honest question and not meant in any way to defend Zo, I'm asking because I see the struggles and understand, but what's happening in those wins?

They made hard shots under pressure in those games. In the first half of the UF game they did the same thing, hence, the lead. In the second half, they couldn't make those same shots and they lost.

Tennessee has no offense under Martin, it's very unorganized much like a bunch of guys in a pickup game, when the shots fall they look great, when they don't not so much.

He's done great there but Mike Dunlap won 2 National titles while there and Clark played under him. Hey, Dunlap is not coaching anywhere after being fired by the NBA Bobcats. Put him on the list to talk to.

Switch to a 1-3-1 against Bama

I agree, but compare how Anthony Grant responded (staring at his team like a deer in headlights while his team imploded) to this move to the way Billy Donovan did when we tried it in the second half against Florida this past week (dribble penetration with passing to open perimeter players or bigs on the inside). The point is a good coach can counter that trick when he sees it. Anthony Grant is not Billy Donovan.

I like him a lot also and would think Dave Hart would like that White's dad is the AD at Duke. They could be friends and initiate contact that way. LA Tech beat Oklahoma in OT this year. It was an exciting game. White also has recruiting connections in the south.

Uhm actually when we went 1-3-1 we held Florida scoreless for like 5 minute...

I like the thought of him, depending what he does down the stretch here with La Tech he could become a very hot name.

Not what I recall at all. In the second half, we got about three stops but failed to score any on our end. Eventually, Florida began getting modest success against it with the dribble drive.

The problem was we weren't scoring.

Yea we held them scoreless for almost 6 minutes, unfortunately we only scored 2 points during that stretch.

The move to 1-3-1 was great against UF, and I'm not sure why he waited so long, we just couldn't capitalize offensively off of it.

definitely good candidate but i have doubts whether hart will pull the trigger and dump CCM even if UT doesnt make the tourney. if that is the scenario that plays out Tennessee will miss on a good candidate who wont be available next year.

You guys keep using Pearl as the measuring stick for these young coaches when Pearl is just sitting there. Quit basing coaches off of Pearl's record if yall wont get behind bringing Bruce back.

Not to be a debby downer but LA Tech's SOS is 264 this year... He's beating trash this year.
