They must win out. Even then, I'm not so sure.

You realize how false this statement is surely don't you?

I get you don't think they can win out, but you do honestly know that's not required don't you?

Even at 5-2 over their final 7 they still would be on the bubble

With how Many eye-opening wins? Virginia and who else? Please don't say Xavier or LSU.

I'm trying to have an honest discussion with you, so let's stay on topic and not result to silly insults...k?

Eye opening wins? There's no rule from the selection committee that you have to have x amount of "eye opening wins". A "good win" is defined as a top 50 RPI win, we currently have 2 of those. Missouri is top 50 so say we split, that give us 3 top 50 wins, aka "good wins", that's plenty to get into the dance. I can list multiple schools to have gotten in the last few years with 3 or less, "good wins".

They need to run the table because I'm expecting another early exit in the SEC tourney. That's not a jab at Martin. It's a UT tradition to play bad in the tourney. Win out, and an early round exit may not hurt.

Go 5-2, then I think they will need to win a couple of games in the tourney.

Honest question....what happens in the @lsu, @bama, Xavier, Virginia games? Were we just lucky and fell into big wins? Do they have worse coaches than Zo? Did someone else coach those games?

This is a honest question and not meant in any way to defend Zo, I'm asking because I see the struggles and understand, but what's happening in those wins?

I know they were road conference games but LSU , Alabama and throw in Xavier win on a neutral court. But i wouldn't use those games as measuring sticks. We need to be measured against Florida & Kentucky because thats where we were in Pearl era.

So you think the Vols are going to make the Dance?

It will take a miracle at this point and as inconsistent as this team has been it's doubtful. I think everyone has been waiting for them to get on a hot streak and it just hasn't happened. Is it coaching, lack of good guard play, offensive structure or maybe all of the above?

Bad thing is he's a terrible defensive coach.

This. I've been saying the same for quite some time. His teams are forced to win games with abnormal offensive outputs to mask the inability to consistently defend. It's how we beat teams like UVA, @LSU, & @Bama, while also staying competitive with @UK and Florida (we shoot the lights out), and lose to teams like NCSU, @Vandy, & aTm (we can't throw it in the ocean). Particularly bad, is our perimeter defense. In those three losses, we allowed our opponents to shoot a combined 17-32 (53%) from the 3-point line.

If he makes the tourney it won't be just one more year, it will be three or four and our opportunity to get Pearl back will be gone which means another 100 years of mediocrity.

The dynamics on this will be interesting to watch. If Hart does keep him he almost has to extend him or he'll kill recruiting pretty much sealing his fate anyway. Cuonzo has proven he can't win with talent, what's it going to look like with minimal talent? Maybe he can extend him while reducing the buyout somehow.

Switching defenses against a terrible basketball team is now a great move?

You'd complain about someone giving you bag of gold because it was too heavy.

Switching defenses worked, didn't it? In a season where it's tough to find positives, you seem to pop up in numerous threads to kill any shred of optimism that may still exist for this team to succeed. There are plenty of negatives to complain about without you trying to transform the few positive things into negatives by qualifying them.

We get it. You don't think CCM can hack it. 95%+ of us agree, but tone down the dramatic killjoy.

Virginia is gonna be ranked top 15 and we beat them by 35, not sure how "inferior" they are.

The performance against Virginia is exhibit #1 regarding the frustrating thing about this team: The real potential they possess far exceeds the performance on the court.

Wins like that one and the LSU and Bama road wins get counterbalanced by losses like the first loss at Xavier, UTEP, NC State and conference losses to aTm (home) and Vandy. A team with the talent we possess has no business losing to these teams.

Chris Dortch and his opinions on the subject of basketball are worthy of respect.

6-1 and an early exit won't hurt. Reason being at 6-1 we likely have a 1st round hey and are playing LSU/Missouri/Ole miss in our 1st game, a loss to any of those wouldn't destroy us like a loss to say auburn.

We were not beating Kentucky consistently in the Pearl era?
