I've changed my mind about

If I was the AD I would give him a raise to 1,800-2 million and extend him 3 yrs but keep his buyout the same in case I had to fire him....he represents the program well.....decent to good coach.....I would be worried about his recruiting which is why I would keep the buyout reasonable.

That would be a fair raise IMO, although I don't think you can keep his buyout the same as it is currently, but that's jmo.

Any idea where that would rank him among other SEC coaches?

Grant and Frank Martin are 6th and 7th at $1.9m

1.) John Calipari, Kentucky: $4.2 million
2.) Billy Donovan, Florida: $3.5 million
3.) Mike Anderson, Arkansas: $2.2 million
4.) Bruce Pearl, Auburn: $2.2 million
5.) Kevin Stallings, Vanderbilt: $2.1 million
6.) Anthony Grant, Alabama: $1.9 million
Frank Martin, South Carolina: $1.9 million
8.) Mark Fox, Georgia: $1.7 million
9.) Frank Haith, Missouri: $1.6 million

Especially considering how much Martin is being paid. I heard on radio today that Martin is only the 11th highest paid coach in SEC. People thought Hart was going to have to decide whether to fire Martin or keep him. He may end up having to decide if he wants to pay him enough to stay.
Racist IMO.

That would be about right IMO. Around F. Martin and Grant but behind the rest.

I too have not been pleased with the team or how CCM coaches them. I am rethinking this as well. Win or lose tomorrow, I think that CCM is trying to do it right.....the old fashioned way. That means there are no giant "media darling" splashes. It is a longer road, but the foundation will be sound. Recruiting concerns me because of what he has and, also, what he can pull without being a "sizzle" guy. However, the bottom line is that I totally respect the man's character and plan. This is hard for me to say, but if I remove my own knee-jerk emotions and look at this from 30,000 feet I am convinced that he is on the right path. Now, let me watch them kick the teeth of UMass in!!!

CCM. I have been critical of CCM and the style of play exhibited by this team but I have changed my mind. Hearing the Iowa coach speak about the class that CCM and this team showed after the game convinced me CCM is the right man for the job. I say let's give him some time to grow as a coach and the best players in the country will want to play for him. He constantly talks about representing TN is a positive light. No discipline problems since he has been here. The man is a class act with incredible character. He will recruit players with character. It's only a matter of time before he will be extremely successful. You can't do things the right way and not get good results. He has my support and he now deserves an extension. JMO!

Maybe you should start a petition...yeah that would do it...:)

Martin was essentially the lead recruiter for E'Twaun Moore, Robbie Humell and JaJuan Johnson while he was at Purdue. He has sealed the deal with 2 5* players so far. I think he should be Ok in terms of recruiting.

Interesting, here are my grades for those abilities

Prep: B- / C+
Offensive Strategy: B- / B
Motivation: A-
Recruiting: B

I think that's pretty good for a coach in his 5th year. Do you think he has tapped out his talent and will remain stagnant for the remaining 20 years?

The good thing about signing a young coach is they tend to improve.

Game prep you and I are close. The times we've fallen behind early suggest game prep is lacking.
Offensive strategy I think is terrible. Many times the offense consist of passing it around the perimeter and then maymon posting on one side and stokes on the other. Very few set plays. Virtually no out of bounds plays. Very little strategy to score against the press just try to get it across. It's no secrete Cuonzo gets criticized here for no apparent offense than anything else.
Motivation. We differ greatly here. I think it's one of his weekest traits. Another reason we come out flat at the beginning of both halves. Did you see the pregame speach video? I about fell asleep and it was only 2 min long.

I give his recruiting a C. He's secured two 5 stars one of which was supposedly a heavy UT lean (Stokes) but I still give him credit because he brought home. His best year has been with holdovers from Pearl when at the time many said Pearl left nothing. Well three years in two of the too players are Pearl leftovers.

As far as him being young and inexperienced, Tennessee isnt and shouldn't be the training ground for any coach. I expect if he makes it here till he is a good coach, he'll bolt to Purdue or another school after he's earned his stripes here. He can be replaced fairly easily right now IMO.

we don't have a choice but to Keep him at this point and to get behind him. Maybe he can grow as a coach and maybe he can recruit. Maybe he can become a force in the Sec and nationally. We don't have a choice but to get behind him. Go Big Orange! Beat UMass! I sure do like his class, and the way the players win with class. That is worth a lot.

Maybe coach will get tired of everybody's belly aching, crying and hire Bruce Pearl petitions and just simply leave so we can hire a hugely talented coach who is just just chomping at the bit to coach at Tennessee. Number one, screw Bruce Pearl, he knowingly lied and put the program on the hot seat and a huge number wanted to hire him back. Using that same logic we should be mad that we did not fire coach jones after a lackluster year and re-hire Lane Kiffin. Smh

Great to be back into the NCAA tourney and especially get a win!

Don't allow the europhia to cloud your thinking. No one has ever questioned CCM's integrity, just his recuiting along with X's and O's game time coaching. CCM still has alot of growing required to become a top notch coach.

If Hart is thinking extension, then I sure hope there is discussion of bringing in a top offensive assistant coach tied to it.

BTW - 2 guys have been dismissed for conduct reasons during CCM's tenure. Not a bad percentage, but more than 0 dicipline problems.

3 guys have had to leave with discipline problems.

This. CCM has all the ability to be an elite coach some day. He's still learning his craft, we just hired him one coaching stop before he was ready for this kind of program. Now after almost 3 years of on-the-job learning, he's showing the signs of being ready. We'd be dumb to let him go at this point.

Now that is funny.
