That's been my point regarding the early signing period. It wasn't like every recruit who wasn't an EE was free game and could be flipped. The early signing period limited JP's options and from a much smaller pool to recruit from. I was just saying kids could careless about what a schools record had been the last decade. They focus more on who their coach's are, playing time,can they win games now or soon and getting to the NFL for many. Going 7-6 the previous year isn't much of a factor. Tom Herman killed it in the recruiting class and they were a pretty bad 7-6 team. It could be a factor in a small amount but not the majority. That's not just an assumption, recruiting rankings back that up. It's gonna start evening out even more with the 25 limit and not able to sovereign. Butch's classes looked better on paper than they really were because he was signing 31-3 guys in his higher rated classes. You should be able to be top 15 if you sign 30+ players.

Those who will admit it are pretty angry and touchy when you remind them.

I like Pruitt. I liked Jones as far as that goes. But being UT's HC is about meeting a standard of performance. Part of the reason UT has declined is that coaches were allowed to fall well short... and survive anyway.

Of course there is also the issue of who was hired to begin with... Hopefully Fulmer got it right and hired a football coach rather than a lawyer or used car salesman.

I think Pruitt and this staff will be able to coach and develop. Something that Butch failed at.

What were you expecting? He walked into a mess with an early signing day and it’s still a top twenty class( shows how awesome the sec is)

Couldn’t agree more. I haven’t been excited about a UT recruiting class since 2015, given that Jones was horrific at player development and doing anything significant with whatever talent he got....what was the use? At a minimum, JP has to be given time to see what he can do with class 2018 and our existing roster talent and to see what his 2019 recruiting class looks like.

If this entire class had been signed today instead of split up many would be happier. If anyone expected a top 10 class this year they were crazy. After you get past 10, the next 10-15 teams it really is splitting hairs dependent on needs. What will be the determining factor is if this staff can coach up what it has. I have no doubt this staff will be a force in recruiting in the future. GBO!

We had good NSD with butch nearly every year thanks to his used car salesman skills. Tell them whatever they want to hear!

Beat me to it. I’d rather celebrate Pruitt and Co. coaching this team to beat an AL or a GA next year after an underwhelming signing day than the happy signing days/pathetic game days crap we’ve had the last five years. If this staff can coach, next year's signing day will be very different.

Prob a year that doesn’t follow the worst record in program history and the worst coaching search in world history. Seriously, what did you expect?
