‘18 QB Grad Transfer Keller Chryst (UT commit 3/1/18)

For those of you who think this guy wouldn't be important, consider this. In the last 14 seasons this team has had 5 seasons where three QBs started a game in a season. We've had an additional 6 seasons where at least two QBs started a game. Throw in the fact that McBride was robbed of a RS and having a 5 year P5 transfer is basically a gift from God.

The better question is what has Chryst shown you? With arguably two of the better backs, offensive lines and an one of the most brilliant offensive coaches in recent PAC12 history, he’s been pedestrian at best in an offense that quite honestly didn’t ask him to do much.

Well for starters, with Chryst at QB, we probably would have beaten Fla by 10 points last year so there's that. It's also true that we probably would have beaten them by ten if Kelly had just ran the Wildcat on all of the snaps where QD was allowed to pass but that's a different story.

If he’s seriously considering coming here, he isn’t planning on being the backup. The conversations with coaches would be much different.

Competing for the backup QB position!?! WTF? We do not need players of this potential, unless Stanford has two Heisman candidates at QB!

Really? Did you pay any attention at all to our QB play this season? Lots of Power 5 backups could compete for our starting job right now. Besides, it's only for one year...really no risk involved. If he doesn't work out, he's not taking up a scholarship for the 2019 class.

I can't wrap my mind around the Grad transfers and how they effect our Recruiting numbers

Agree. And what did JG really fail at last year? First and foremost was his ability to feel pressure in the pocket/holding the ball too long/taking unnecessary sacks.....all of that can be coached out of him imo. When he actually stepped up and threw the ball, good things happened.

Hmmm - actually you either have good instincts or you don't have good instincts which equates to pocket ( presents ). He doesn't have it, it usually is more instinctual than coached imho.

At any rate my index finger is bigger than JG's ankles, he has a history of injury, if you can get anyone seasoned to compete or to be a back up - not a bad idea. He will probably select a program where he is sure to start on the west coast, but the coaches are doing what good coaches should be doing.

For the sake of our future we hope JG turns out to be as good as his recruiting profile suggested. If we play a grad transfer we have serious QB issues heading into 2019

So far he hasn’t. It’s why you bring in an accomplished grad transfer to compete. If he’s better this year than JG, he plays.

None of this hope and pray for the future. I hope “we” play the best player regardless of age.

If he can turn water in to wine, then he can turn this team into a playoff contender.

I don't disagree with any of that at all. However I think you would have to agree that if JG plays a higher level, develops into a serviceable QB this season and takes the leadership of this team over in 2018 that means our future looks a lot brighter than it would if this guy or any other grad transfer is the starter.

That's why we "hope" a grad transfer isn't our guy this season

Exactly - if we were Pitt would we have taken Nathan Peterman - ummmm you betcha.

Something tells me that our coach is thinking LONG term vs. short term.

but I do realize the he wants to WIN....EVERY GAME POSSIBLE
