’14 GA ATH Elliott Berry (UT Signee 2/5/14)

I don't understand everyone jumping on posters who suggest it as a possibility or wanting to discuss it

Not saying the Berrys haven't earned it at all. And not saying they don't deserve it. And not saying they couldn't go elsewhere and get full rides.

But would it help UT to be able to sign 2 more studs on top of the Berrys being vols? Absolutely. How is that stupid?

Care to elaborate on why it's so stupid? Or were you just looking for an excuse to be a jerk per usual?

I explained above. It would be seen as insulting and rightfully so. The only reason the idea is being brought up is because EB has some cash. Should we evaluate every recruits finances before offering scholarships?

Maybe one person suggested soliciting that from EB. Everyone who's talked about it said "wouldn't it be nice if EB volunteered."

Yes it would be nice. No it's not stupid.

So IF Eric offered it on his own accord, and the family was ok with it, you don't think butch should accept it?

No one who could afford to fund these scholarships would view it as stupid, only someone who views 50K a year as a life changing amount of money would think its stupid.

How can they stop him? They don't have the power to keep family from looking after family. This isn't just some booster; he's their brother.

Personally I think it's pretty obvious that you could never ask the Berrys to do it. They'd have to offer to do it themselves. Would/have they? I have no idea. I'd say it's highly unlikely that this happens, but it would be absolutely incredible if it did.

I really don't think they can stop him. And it would look petty if they did. They'd be instant legends if they asked to be grayshirted though. One of the biggest "Team First" things you can possibly do.

If he's 5-11 or 5-10 it doesn't matter to me. All that matters is if he can play. Al Wilson was maybe 6-0, but he could play. A 5-11 linebacker isn't really short and is possible, especially if we make him more of a weak side LB, and he can cover RBs and TEs. Both these brothers will come in and make an impact wherever they play because they know what it takes.

I could be wrong but I believe I read once that if a school actively recruits a player they cannot later have them walk on per some NCAA rule.

Edit: I think it was if a recruit comes on an OV they can't walk on.

It can be done but the NCAA and the school have to resolve it. Below is an article about Andre Drummond when he was at UCONN and he did it. Is a long article but it states that he was recruited but the didn't have a scholarship so he walked on.

Ha I came back to reply to your post and when I did I saw your edit. I had forgotten about that rule. But I think you're right. It has something to do about if they come on an official. Have the twins officialed?

Your right most of the time, but I'd like to see that one.

It would have to be Football and Bball specific as all the minor sports bring in recruits on OV's that are invited to walk on. When there's only a hand full of scholarships to spread amonst a whole team then many times an athlete starts out on his own dime and performs his way into a partial scholarship (again referencing minor sports).

I'm sure it is FB specific. I don't remember where I read it but I think it was last fall/winter when OV's were getting down to the last few.

Either way, it doesn't matter all that much, the Berry twins aren't walking on at UT. They are going to be on scholarship. I don't have a link for that either but that's what is going to happen.

Only the Sith deal in absolutes. Haha

If I were CBJ and had a good relationship with EB, then I'd throw it out there to guage if there were any interest. It goes without saying they have scholarships for them if they aren't interested in the alternative method.

Thank goodness you are not CBJ...
