’14 GA ATH Elliott Berry (UT Signee 2/5/14)

What on earth are you talking about? Who said they don't have other offers? You were just trying to argue that they weren't being recruited by other schools because they were locks. I'm just saying it's not beyond the realm of possibility that they won't be on scholarship next year as JC Shurburtt has said.

My original post that you quoted was in response to a question about whether the Berrys had other offers or not. You quoted me and wanted an argument was all I guess.

You think they might not be on scholarship next year at UT and I do. Agree to disagree. :hi:

I thought you had JC Shurburtt's comments from this morning in mind about no school of Tennessee's level "beating down the Berrys door" with these statements...if not I apologize.

I just don't know where everyone is getting the idea that the Berrys are not and have not been heavily recruited. Because they don't report in to JC everytime they get a phone call?

How about you quit being a smartass and act like you own the place. It was relevant to the conversation.

Nobody is acting like they own the place...you started replying to me with stuff that had no bearing on the conversation. I have no clue what you are talking about but I'm going to end it right now and put you on my ignore list.

I don't think it just comes from JC Shurburtt. The Berrys have made several statements about not a lot of schools contacting them because the schools think they are locks to UT.

Then where did all the offers come from? And I've only seen one of those type comments come from them, and it was recently. Last year Isaw several times tthat they mentioned schools calling them and how this and that school were all even.

They were recruited quiet a bit more last year and the year before. The only offers they have this year are from Missouri and Kentucky and that was back in Feb.

First time for everything I guess. I do not start things like this. But, your response was totally out of line. I was trying to be nice with my original response but guess I shouldn't have been.

Well they haven't gotten worse at football, so if they got a bunch of offers their junior year why are people saying they are sub par? Schools aren't going to reoffer just so fans know they're still interested.

No, they haven't gotten worse. If I were to speculate, I would say that some schools were anticipating 2 Eric Berry clones and perhaps they haven't achieved that status as fast as some schools had hoped. It's not to say they won't be just as good or even to say they aren't worth a spot now. I think it probably all factors in...when I say all I mean the general consensus that they are coming to UT and they aren't as elite as Eric was coming out of high school.

Since we're speculating, my guess is that many or most of the schools that initially offered the Berry brothers would take them if they showed serious interest in their program.

As mentioned before, the brothers wanting to play together may be a hurdle for some coaching staffs. But, one that several in the SEC would overcome.

What are your thoughts on the Berrys possibly greyshirting?

"I haven't heard that and would be surprised if that happened."

It's time for VQ or someone in the know to clarify the swafford situation.

Can he be put on scholarship in the spring and not count toward either the 13 or 14 class?????

If yes that changes a hell of a lot of what's being discussed in this thread

I can literally find nothing that prevents Swafford from being awarded a scholarship in the spring and having to count against the 13 or 14 class.

i posted my thoughts on this a few days ago.

remember when the recruiting analyst were saying we could sign 31 in 2014? then Butch came out and said we will sign 30. i think we are ALOUD 31, but Butch is putting Swafford on scholarship, and thats why we sign 30. if thats the case, it doesnt matter what class he is signed to.

"I think there are some players in this class who have a tremendous amount of upside who are good players and good finds, who don't necessarily have a long offer list," Shurburtt said. "So you can go to them and say, 'Hey, look, we're going to delay enrollment until the Class of 2015. You still have four years of eligibility. You get to be here early for spring practice. And you don't have any offers. So if you want to go to UNC-Charlotte, go ahead. But if you want to play in the SEC, you'll stick with us and hang out for a semester.'"

is this a shot at Jerome Dews?

My guess as well.

Then any kid willing to walk on for 1 semester could be out on scholly after that. So the if there isn't room now there isn't room next year angle doesn't fly. Neither does the 200-300k angle.

This is certainly a question that VQ should clarify for us.

Good points. Maybe you have to be a walk on for a full academic year before you can be awarded a scholarship?
