’14 GA ATH Elliott Berry (UT Signee 2/5/14)

He did. He said it to the Knoxville News Sentinel. Shocking, but would certainly explain Butch recruiting like he has more spots.
Shocking to me would be if they agreed to GS. Shocking to me would be if CBJ took their commits but turned away Jarran Reed, Genesy, Evans, Malone, Garrett, etc because he didn't have room.

But Jones asking them to GS or not accepting a commitment? Wouldn't shock me at all.

I doubt seriously Butch is going to flat out turn down 2 legacy recruits of their caliber and speed. I also don't think they would be recruiting them so hard if they didn't really want them.

Link? He is obviously putting his entire credibility on the line if he said that.

:lolabove: are you delusional? 247's recruiting director is losing his credibility because of his opinion on a couple of 3 star recruits? I can only laugh.

I hope the Berry's have great careers no matter where they play, but acting as though they're both regarded like Nkemdiche is silly.

So is this LEGACY!!!! nonsense. Butch Jones has to win football games, not wax nostalgic.

I think they want them, contingently. Like if Garrett chooses UT. Or Reed. Or Malone. Or a handful of other recruits they're recruiting hard.

IMO, they haven't committed because they don't have commitable offers. They may both turn out to be Heisman candidates, but at this point, the Vols are in the running with a handful of the best prospects in the country.

Which is exactly why Shurburtt said that.

I just can't buy that. Whatever happens with the Berry bros and TN an arrangement that has been in place for a while now.

Thanks Volfan. And its not delusional to say his credibility is on the line. A 4* and 3* recruit does not regularly gray shirt anywhere. If he is wrong, you can go ahead and worship the ground he walks on, but I know I sure won't. If he is right, he can say "look at me, I'm a genius." If he wrong, he can simply say, "Well, I said it 'might' happen, so I wasn't really wrong."

I kind of feel bad for both of the Berry Bros...I feel bad because IMO they are set up for failure here at Tennessee. If they both come here and they don't live up to the lofty expectations that most UT fans have for them, they will be considered busts.

It seems as if most of us UT fans expect these guys to be Eric Berry 2.0 and that is going to be very difficult and highly unlikely.

On the other side, I don't feel bad for them because both are great athletes and both will attain scholarships and receive a free education no matter where they decide to go. Both are extremely blessed and I hope they choose UT and I hope they contribute and create their own legacy here at UT.

GO VOLS!!!

No worship here, just common sense.

They're both 3 stars on his service, and neither is in their top 247.

I'm sure he's made dozens of predictions about players over the years, and probably knows far more about the recruits and what is going on with their recruitment than anyone on this board. Which is why the board goes orgasmic when he makes a crystal ball prediction to UT.

Regardless, what he said was probably born from the fact that the Vols don't have a lot of spots left, and yet are heavily pursuing a number of players who are obviously interested in UT. Players who are rated amongst the best at their position in the country. So come NSD, if the Berry's are Vols, then we've missed out on Malone, Garrett, etc, or else a good # of players towards the bottom of the class were asked to look elsewhere (and that is going to happen Berrys or not, in spite of the number of delusional fans who think CBJ joins arms with these kids and sings "We Are Family" on a weely basis).

Unfortunately, I suspect some will be disappointed, if not angry, with CBJ if he gives the Berry brothers scholarships and Eric doesn't pay their way.

"I think there are some players in this class who have a tremendous amount of upside who are good players and good finds, who don't necessarily have a long offer list," Shurburtt said. "So you can go to them and say, 'Hey, look, we're going to delay enrollment until the Class of 2015. You still have four years of eligibility. You get to be here early for spring practice. And you don't have any offers. So if you want to go to UNC-Charlotte, go ahead. But if you want to play in the SEC, you'll stick with us and hang out for a semester.'"

Since schurbert is discussing it I assume its ok to talk about now? Or is it grey shirt only no walk on talk? It has to be because we all think theyre not good enough and not because were trying to improve the team in any way possible right? Im clear on you guys projecting my thoughts on the matter?

I seriously doubt Butch would ask them to gray shirt. They night volunteer to help Butch get around the asinine 25 per year limit and just take a schollie later (or have their way paid... sorry couldn't help it), but I'd be shocked and a little offended if Butch said gray shirt or nothing at all.

People need to realize the berry bros haven't camped all over the place to build their hype machine up. They just play ball. They have instinct and are fast as ****. If they were to do this it would have nothing to do with inferior talent.

This.

This is a tough pill to swallow for fans of the Berry family. We have all fully expected them to be signed, sealed, and delivered for a few years now. And we have them placed highly on a pedestal that is probably unfair to them. But they are third generation royalty here. And with that comes certain expectations. It's gonna be hard for us as fans
if these rumors are true.

so wait, the berry bros. don't have any valid BCS conference offers??

I was listening drivin up from Chatt. He was being facetious but said paraphrasing. If youre fall back option is unc Charlotte. ... lol. Think he was speaking about all possible gs at that time. 2 categories. Lower rated players or injured, or the berrys who have a unique situation.
