I sure hope the family that worked a second job just to put a family member through college doesnt read this disgusting post. Don't insult all of us that would work multiple jobs to put a family member through school with this garbage

I didn't take it as an insult and I would work 3 jobs to get my kids through school if I had to. Let's not be over dramatic.

Note to self, stay out of the Berry brothers thread until NSD!!!!

But let's say UT decides to extend a scholarship to each of the twins for 1 year, what prevents EB from picking up the tab for years 2-4, or more, depending on if either or both are redshirted? Heck, there's a wonderful chance we can argue and debate this for years to come! Doesn't that sound exciting?

I think I'm going to kill myself...

hey guys, i dont post much, but i had this idea.

you know, since eric berry is a true vfl, and loves the vols so much, i bet he wouldn't mind paying for his brothers to come to UT, you know, just as a donation, but for their scholarships. that way, we could get more players. i don't know. what do you think? SIAP

go vols!

Yes...you are...SORRY :)

This is not even worth responding to, but I just can't help it.

1) NFL contracts are not guaranteed. They didn't give him a check for 50 million dollars (or whatever his contract is).

2) The Chiefs could cut him tomorrow and he would get whatever he has been guaranteed (usually a signing bonus and a lower figure as a base). A lot of it is incentive-laden.

3) Ever heard of taxes?

Besides all that, the idea is preposterous. Please, people, for the love of the Vols, leave it alone.

I regret that I have but one like to give this post.....

This thread is starting to turn into a great representation of why our country is where it is finically right now. Just because someone works and makes lots of money doesn't mean they should in any way be asked to provide for the benefit of others. I'm sure Eric would gladly take care of his brothers college expenses if they weren't good enough to play college ball, but they are. This is the same principal as asking people who go to med school for 6-8 years and specialize in something to provide 20-30% of their earnings through taxes to pay for Joe who has three kids and no job. People don't realize how hard it is to go through med school or how hard it is to play a professional sport. All people see is,"Oh he/she is rich" let's get them to help us out.

I thought I read that this made-up rumor was based off the made-up 'fact' that EB would be volunteering his money. I didn't realize he was asked to pay his brothers way.

He was not asked. He has not volunteered. Some people speculated how cool it would be if he did volunteer, and the insecure people on here used that whimsical thinking to bash people who thought about it, because they want to feel better about themselves.

I did not bash anyone, but personally hate the idea and constant talk about it. Even heard one of us call in and ask the same thing to John and Jimmy. It screams weakness to me, we will get back on top with our scholarships allowed, not getting our rich alumni to foot the bill for their three and four star siblings. Wow, I do feel better about myself...you were right...lol

Lol I don't mind people disagreeing on the subject, but berating people for a plausible idea is a sign of insecurity. It would be the coolest move ever to have them walk on, but saying it's likely or suggesting we solicit that is foolish, IMO

Agree BV...JC's rant come across as greedy bastage

Just curious if anyone else has heard the latest rumor concerning the Berry twins...keep in mind this is a rumor and the only info I have comes from reading and hearing it from a friend who reads another forum that charges...

Apparently, the story goes, there is not much recruiting news surrounding the Berrys because Eric has said the Vols will NOT waste 2 scholarships on these guys because he is going to pay their full way...leaving the Vols with 2 extra scholarships available. Eric loves the Vols so much, that this is the best way he can help the university out in his absence.

Anyone else heard this? Sounds too good to be true to me, and borders on a violation...maybe? I don't know.

Hmm. I've not heard of this possible scenario yet. Anybody got the deets?

Except he's mostly wrong lol

No, he's dead on. Not sure why anyone should either speculate or assume that Eric should pay his hard-earned money for his brothers' education when they will have rightfully earned their scholarships.

If he comes out and says he's gonna do it then fine. But I have a feeling there will be some people on here playing the class warfare card and criticizing him if he doesn't.

I love it when someone starts a topic and then all of the "know it all vols" come in and berate the op for making the thread. Just like this one. So I guess all of you who think this topic is dumb knows Eric Berry personally. You know how close he and his brothers are, you know what he spends his money on and you know what he does in his personal time. I have to assume this because saying Eric WILL NOT pay for their tuition WITHOUT ANY PROOF means you guys have personally spoken with Eric and his brothers about this particular situation.

So I would like to know how some of you know Eric will not pay for his brothers tuition. Also why is it so insane to think he wouldn't? He can easily afford it and maybe he loves his brothers enough to do it. Or maybe he loves Tennessee, knows the situation and knows by paying for them, it would open up 2 more spots to sign some other big time recruits. Maybe it's both reasons, who knows? The fact is NOBODY knows what's going to happen with Eric and his brothers situation except for them.

Lemme break this down for ya, Barney-style.

1: It's incomprehensibly stupid.
2: If I'm Eric Berry, and this subject is even BROACHED to me, my little brothers go to Alabama.
3: It's incomprehensibly stupid.
4: It's a slap in the face to Elliott and Evan, who were PROMISED A FREAKING FULL RIDE SCHOLARSHIP.
5: It's incomprehensibly stupid.
6: It's a slap in the face to Eric, who gave his all for Tennessee, and is now reaping the well-deserved rewards.
7: It's incomprehensibly stupid.
8: It's a slap in the face to James, who gave his all for Tennessee, sent his oldest son there, and is now reaping the rewards as is deserved.
9: It's incomprehensibly stupid.
10: It hurts us with a potential pipeline school. "Oh, we're gonna offer these kids a full ride. What's that?? Their brother is loaded and is a graduate?? Let's see if he'll pay for their schooling, even though we offered them a full ride!!! GREAT idea!!!"

(edited because I forgot a point*)

11: Not to mention the fact that the NCAA would be beating down our doors if this happened. 99.9999% chance it's illegal as all hell. Oh, and because it's incomprehensibly stupid.

Idiocy of this level hasn't been seen on VolNation since the 2.4 million threads swearing that Jon Garbage was the second coming of General Neyland.

I wish for the second post in these threads, I could have predicted the future:

"Yep, they should be good ones! I bet in a few years, we will be discussing having them walk on and eric picking up the tab. Go vols!"

Yuppers! Great post. The "John Garbage" snip sealed it for me.

EDIT - had to add a "like" to your post.

Why does everybody assume that the idea had to come to the Berry family and not from the Berry family?

Problem is that it's not plausible. Anyone thinking it is should get a mental checkup.
