-RivalsIt’s not hard to appreciate what PJ Hall does. He’s not going to blow you away with the highlight reel plays, but he’s just a very complete big man. He catches everything thrown his way and snatches every rebound within his reach. He has really soft touch finishing around the rim and can also step out and hit jumpers. He’s a more-than-adequate athlete. Clemson, Florida, Georgia, Pittsburgh, South Carolina and Tennessee are some of the schools in the mix for him, with Florida and Tennessee getting most of the buzz behind the scenes.
Hall said two more definite official visits for him will be Virginia Tech and Tennessee. He said he also remains in regular contact with USC coach Frank Martin and an official visit with the Gamecocks is also on the table.
Hall plans to make his decision before his senior season.

Nevermind. I got a case of the dumbs. After Burns reclassified into the 2018 class, he was not the #1 player in SC. Some kid named Zion something or other was ahead of him at #1.If we land Hall, would that make 3 straight years getting the #1 player out of South Carolina? Burns, James, Hall.
Talked with four-star big man P.J. Hall tonight. If you've been following it he made official visits to Florida and Clemson recently. Asked him if that was a reflection of his interest in those two schools as opposed to Tennessee. He said 'absolutely not.' He and his family were confused about the new rule that allows juniors to take official visits. Said he had been planning all along to take an official to Tennessee in June (which he told me in the last article we did on him), said he thought that he had until Aug. 1 to take his junior year visits when in fact the deadline is the last day of school in your junior year.
-VQIn any event, Tennessee very much in that one. I would guess that it's UT vs. Florida though he didn't come out and say that. Sister plays volleyball at Florida, so that's obviously something to consider. His dad is from Kingsport, so that's probably something in the Vols' favor.
It has been a busy few weeks for four-star PJ Hall. After completing his spring on the travel circuit with the Upward Stars program, Hall took consecutive official visits to Clemson and Florida, though interest from many others has remained consistent. “It has been really good,” Hall commented regarding his spring. “I have been working on my game and trying to push the ball a whole lot more and working on my ball handling. I am always working on my shot and it is really coming along.” Last week, Hall took an official visit to both Clemson and Florida, the latter a place that his sister is on the volleyball team. Georgia Tech,South Carolina, Tennessee and Virginia Tech are four others that remain in constant contact with him.
“Coach Lanier left so Coach Oliver was assigned to me now so that is who has been recruiting me. I was planning on going on an official visit there later on that week and right before this camp but the thing was, we didn’t know what the rule was. “The first time that I went up there, every night it is sold out. 22,000 (people), it is insane. It is awesome up there. Rick Barneshas done an amazing job with those guys. My dad is from there area and it is really nice up there.”
-Corey Evans (Rivals)While Hall has been busy of late, no other visits have been set for now. “Nothing planned,” he said. “I haven’t planned anything and If I do, it would be an unofficial (visit).” A commitment is not near but one should be made prior to the fall. “I am definitely going to commit before my senior season,” Hall said. “I haven’t released a top whatever (list) like everyone else does but I would like to soon just to give people an idea and then I want to get it out of the way before my senior season so I am not wasting their time and I can kind of focus on my last year.” Hall is valued most for his toughness in the frontcourt but also for his ability to score, rebound and defend his basket. Florida and Tennessee are the two most talked about landing spots for him, though Virginia Tech should be considered the dark horse, as many others will continue to pursue as a signing is likely to be made in November.
It’s a long way to the finish line but with five months until the early signing period all signs point to Tennessee having a real shot at landing a loading 2020 signing class. South Carolina big man P.J. Hall is one priority target who’s been showing why he’s such a coveted prospect that this week’s NBA Player’s Association Top-100 camp. Hall (6-foot-9, 220 pounds) has shown well against the kind of top-flight competition this camp attracts. He’s been a consistent force on the glass, especially on the offensive end where he has a knack for beating defenders to the spot and coming up with loose balls. He excels at banging in the paint but the skill that sets him apart from many of his peers is that he’s a 6-foot-9 guy who can step out and splash three-pointers consistently. Hall made two unofficial visits to Knoxville this past season to take in weekend games and also attended a football game last fall as an unofficial visitor.
Those experiences have given him a solid idea of what Rick Barnes’ program is about and how he might fit into what Barnes has built in Knoxville as he heads into his fifth season at the helm. “The first time that I went up there it was sold out, it seems like every night it is sold out,” Hall said of his experience on his two visits this past season. “They 22,000 (people) in there and it is insane. “It is awesome up there. Rick Barnes has done an amazing job with those guys. My dad is from there area and it is really nice up there.” The departure of assistant coach Rob Lanier for the head position at Georgia State means that the Vols had to reshuffle their recruitment of Hall, who now primarily deals with assistant Desmond Oliver in addition to talking with Barnes frequently.
Hall recently took a pair of official visits to Florida (where his sister plays volleyball) and to Clemson, which is a short drive from his home just outside Spartanburg. The fact that Tennessee didn’t get a visit off its own shouldn’t be viewed as a negative, rather Hall said it was a result of some confusion over the NCAA’s new rule allowing prospects to take visits during their junior years. “I was planning on going on an official visit there later on that week and right before this camp but the thing was, we didn’t know what the rule was,” Hall said. The new rule states that the visits must take place before the last day of a prospects junior year of high school. Hall thought the rule allowed him to take official visits as a junior up to the point his senior year started.
In any event look for Tennessee to see him in the fall.
-Vq“I haven’t set up any trips for the fall yet but I would say it’s very, very likely that I’ll take another trip to Tennessee, like I said I really like it there and like Coach Barnes and the staff,” he said. Hall does have a definite timetable in mind for when he’s going to make a decision. “I am definitely going to commit before my senior season,” he said. “I haven’t released a top whatever (list) like everyone else does but I would like to soon just to give people an idea and then I want to get it out of the way before my senior season so I am not wasting their time and I can kind of focus on my last year.” Rivals rates Hall as a four-star prospect and the No. 66 player in the Class of 2020.
The more I hear about this kid, the more I like him and he obviously likes UT, also. Would be a damn shame, if UT doesn't have a spot for him, next year. Walker, Keon, Love and Hall would be a monumental '20 class
