‘21 GA PF Jabari Smith (Auburn commit)

McDonald or branham here ?

I'm a little more cautious with the Branham pick. It also tracks with the fact that I hate recruiting against a desperate Pearl. He's missed on almost all his 2021 targets so far and isn't even listed in the Rival's Top 100 team rankings for 2021. The 100% accuracy and the fact Pearl really needs a win has me feeling less confident now.

McDonald's accuracy isn't too shabby, 156/179 for an 87.2% accuracy rating. He does predict quite more often than Branham does though.

The fact that we have both Lewis and McDonald saying soft lean to Tennessee gives me some hope, but hard to feel too confident with a guy batting almost 1.000 saying Auburn.

I guess we'll have to wait and see until Friday. It does seem odd that both Lewis and McDonald have said it's been a UT/UGA battle for quite some time with Auburn looking on the outside in.

Either Branham is out of touch on this one, or Bruce is on his bull**** again and the out of the blue commitment means some under the table stuff happened to secure Smith.

I’m not surprised if Bruce pulled some $$$trings to make this happen—AU is just a dirty program.

I think we’ll see some clarity over the next day or so as word gets out of his pick. I don’t have a good feeling about UT’s chances, though.

Yeah this is a tough call. McDonald also had the inside scoop on JD Davison.

We are both hearing the same thing. Some positive buzz about Tennessee being the pick but doesn't feel like it's written in stone just yet.

If someone forced me to bet based on what I'm hearing I would take Tennessee but as I have said, this is not a 'story written' deal like it was prior to the Chandler or Mashack announcements earlier.
-Rob Lewis.

Rob Lewis is great. I wish in this instance he would comment on what the speculation surrounding Auburn means, but I completely understand why he may not be able to do so.

Yeah, Rob has never been shy about using the patented VQ euphemisms for a Vol commitment (e.g., "we like where UT stands right now"), so his wavering on the pick seems to indicate that no one really knows at this point.

What do you want him to say? It’s one guy that put in a CB for Auburn, Lewis himself stated just last night not to discount Auburn. He and McDonald seem to think Tennessee with a slight edge, seems like obviously nobody knows for sure.

If winning is that important to him, then why is Georgia in the mix?

Obviously Tennessee & Auburn have had more success in that area.

Had it been a Rivals writer that put in a prediction, he may have mentioned it. He isn’t likely to reference a 247 writer, and right now, that is the only smoke for AU.

I do think that no one knows for sure, as you said, but something has to have given Rob an indication that Tennessee has a slight lead here, especially after the Georgia talk for the last month. I do think Rob knows something that we don’t, but isn’t quite sure if it is enough to tip the scales fully in Tennessee’s favor. I have never heard Rob outright say he thought Tennessee led before today/last night.

I don't know what I wanted him to say, probably nothing, but in the past he has commented on how other programs feel about their position RE: recruits. I'm not saying I expected him to say anything, I think @cncchris33 said it best when he mentioned that it was a 247 writer and if the smoke had been coming from another Rivals writer he might have commented.
