A lot of us just sound like bitter exes. What he done was wrong, but let’s not act like the man is the biggest ******* walking. I saw first hand him take pictures and sign autographs for 30 minutes with UT fans after we beat them in TBA his first time back. He didn’t have to do that.Opinions change? Every person with a brain knows Pearl is a self centered prick who’d do anything to save himself from his own crooked actions.
Dallas, I'm sorry, but you were what, 10 years old when Pearl was at Tennessee? A very impressionable time in your life that you are really struggling to let go of if you can’t see the forest for the trees. Bruce Pearl is looking out for Bruce Pearl.A lot of us just sound like bitter exes. What he done was wrong, but let’s not act like the man is the biggest ******* walking. I do not deny that has a lot to do with it most likely.Dallas, I'm sorry, but you were what, 10 years old when Pearl was at Tennessee? Sure, he may have taken time to sign autographs for those people, but what were his motives? You don't know and I don't know. What I do know is that it is just as likely that he hung around to bask in his former glory and further inflate his ego while droves of adoring fans screamed his name and fell all over themselves hoping to touch his sweaty jacket as it is that he was there with no agenda coaching his 15-20 basketball team to a loss at his former school.
You really need to remove your emotional attachment to the guy to see him for what he really is. I was upset when he was fired, too, but you have to develop an ability to see people for what they really are, and not what your 10-year old self wants you to hang onto and believe.
This is very accurate. He doesn't have a trophy case of players that he improved their draft stock or elevated their game to better prepare them for the NBA. He is a niche coach. But he is elite in his niche. He teaches a system that fits his personality and energy to perfection. He gets guys to buy-in to that system. In his system he can squeeze production out of players that might struggle in a more "standard" system and style of play. He is elite at all those things. But in the other areas of coaching he is certainly below average. He does not emphasize skills that project to the NBA. He is not a skill development coach. He doesn't emphasize the discipline offensively, and especially defensively, that players will be at the next level. Just from an NBA-preparation standpoint there is no comparison between Pearl and other top tier coaches (especially Barnes). But what Pearl does is very entertaining and at times very successful at the college level. If I was a certain type of player I would be completely onboard with playing for Pearl. If I was a projected NBA-level player coming out of high school with the size and athleticism they are looking for in the NBA then there is no way I would choose to play for Pearl. It might be fun for a year or two but it is going to put you behind your peers that you are competing against for draft status and a 2nd NBA contract. That adds up to lots of money.I could be wrong but but Pearl doesn’t have a great track record of putting players in position to make them better and improve their draft stock. He’s got a great reputation of putting underrated players in position to succeed.
His system is pressure and foul the other team and to have the guards bail him out by hitting terrible and highly contested 3-point shots. If he doesn’t have a shooter his system is
doomed. Pearl’s teams lack discipline on and off the court.
It’s hard to imagine a prospect would want to go to Auburn to get better and prepare for the NBA.
Chris - since you’re sharing your wisdom with a younger Dallas, I’ll share mine with a younger you. If you judge every flaw in the folks who you encounter in your life journey then at the end you will have an extremely small circle of folks who meet your personal standard of behavior. People are all flawed beings and everyone will fall short, some more than others. Another option is to appreciate the good you find in everyone you meet as life is more enjoyable that way IMHO. Pearl is obviously flawed in some areas but he’s brought a lot of fun and excitement in many folks life. I for one appreciate him for the exciting games I got to watch when he was coaching UT. With that said, I’ll keep CRB. TIFWIW, JMO, AARPDallas, I'm sorry, but you were what, 10 years old when Pearl was at Tennessee? Yes, I'm the one being "selective" by totally ignoring that Pearl needlessly and quite illogically committed a worse infraction in an attempt to cover a lesser infraction. You're trying to absolve him of his actions as if he didn't choose to commit them. Other teams cheat. Got it. Other teams aren't our team. Pearl did something stupid and got busted, putting our team at risk. And it was such a needless, stupid infraction. There was no real reason for any of the staff to lie, yet they did.your selective moral outrage is noted.
Hubbs just said that "Smith and his family are still talking to Tennessee" on Radio. Basically recanting anything else we've heard from UT insiders.
Basketball Recruiting - Ranking the Contenders: Jabari Smith
SIAP. Lots of arguing about Bruce Pearl today so I scrolled through most of that mess.
Essentially, Rivals thinks Jabari Smith is largely a done deal to Auburn. They say it would take an 11th hour flip for the Vols to get back in it.
That doesn't rule us out though, so keeping the fingers crossed.
Very good advice, but I think it's important to note that I have never suggested that people not appreciate what Pearl did for Tennessee in his time here. What I take exception with are the people who ONLY want to remember or heavily emphasize the good as if the bad never happened.Chris - since you’re sharing your wisdom with a younger Dallas, I’ll share mine with a younger you. Ready to move on, but I think this post covers the situation about as well as I have seen.
I really enjoyed his time here, but even if it is not as entertaining with Barnes, I would prefer what we have now.
My thing is go back to each year of that coach's tenure, and we lost a player every to grades, drugs, assault, guns, etc every year. For me it spoke to who he was as a person and had us looking like Cincinnati of the South. The feeble attempt of lying about a recruiting visit was the last straw of a person that thought he was untouchable.
Ruot Monyyong at Little Rock is from Nashville. Defensive player of the year in his first year in the Sun Belt. Eats it up on the glass.
He did 2 years at JUCO. I think that’s where he did the most development. And he helped Little Rock win the Sun Belt. They’ll get him again this season. So I think they’d be happy w the two seasons they got from himThis is exactly why I hate the grad transfer deal. The program that recruits and develops players like this deserve the loyalty of keeping them and not have recruiting feelers being sent out that other high profile programs are hunting.
That will be an interesting aspect, all the guys around the country who are seniors will essentially have another year to play, and will have graduated. So the market will likely be bigger than just your normal graduate transfers, it essentially could be every senior in the country (obviously not every one of them will opt for another year). He did 2 years at JUCO.
